My DH and I always go to Disney the first or 2nd week of Dec - we buy AP and one year go 2nd week in Dec & following year go first week in Dec to get 2 trips out of them. I always hate it when the holidays are over and this year I just about have my DH convinced to arrive in Disney 12/30 and then stay through the first week in Jan so that we can extend our holidays a bit. My DH keeps telling me I may be sorry because it may be cold and rainy the entire week. In all of the years we have gone in Dec it only rained for an extended period one year. For those of you have traditionally go to Disney in Jan, what is the first week usually like? Will it be alot colder than 2nd week in Dec when it is traditionally in the 70's. I know it is a chance you take in Jan but if it is USUALLY very cold or very rainy, I think we will go during our traditional Dec week.

When our children were small, first week in Dec. was our favorite. We've now made several trips in January. It can be cold...one trip there was frost on the roofs of the GF our last few nights...but usually warms up quite a bit during the days. It can also be balmy. A variety of clothes and dressing in layers on cooler days takes care of that. I don't remember any rain at all on our Jan. trips.

Anyway, it's always a lot warmer in FL in Jan. than it is in Chicago!

We were just there Jan. 1-6, 2004 & it was warm enough to swim each day & wear shorts during the daytime. Nights were cooler, but not cold. I thought the crowds would die down after the first - WRONG! POR stayed full & so did the parks, but we managed to ride what we wanted & we took advantage of early entry at MGM & MK. We had no problem getting good seating for Spectromagic & Fantasmic, either. The Christmas decorations were up at the resorts & parks during our entire stay. Hope this helps.:D

As with all weather, I believe you never know. I've been in January where the weather was great (warm with cool nights and no rain). Other times, it was warm a few days and then very, very cold. I've also been there in February where we froze our butts off and it poured for days. Yet other Februarys were warm.

I think you can check average temperatures at Weather.com. Then you just hope for the best!

We went in January of 95 and I remember wearing jeans and a t-shirt, sometimes a sweatshirt most days. One or two days it was warm enough to wear shorts (maybe low 70's). However, I don't remember it raining except for one day, and it was only drizzly. Nothing like the downpours I witnessed the other two times I was at WDW.

Thanks all for your responses. I think we will take our changes and give Jan a try this year and just hope for the best. After all, we will be in Disney!!

I was there from Jan 3 to Jan 10 this year at All Star Sports...weather was good for most part...I think two days near the end we wore pants and a sweatshirt. Crowds were bad in the beginning, but I think after the 7th, I thought it died down a little. Park crowds weren't that bad, and our resort only got crowded the Friday before we left because of the marathon. I would definatley recommend this time, and I am looking to go again the same time next year!

Thanks for the info Melann - I see you are from PA too. Do you usually fly or drive?

I've been at marathon time 3 times.
2000: warm...shorts every day, maybe put on a sweatshirt at night.
2003: cool enough for jeans every day except one day in shorts...but not so cold we couldn't swim in the pool at the resort a couple of times
2004: cold and windy day before the race, cold enough for jackets rest of trip, except one day.

I'd still risk it, though...great time of year!

The temps in January can vary wildly, sometimes overnight. We've been in January three times and one year we hit an extended cold spell (mid 30's in the morning/low 60's in the afternoon). The other two times it was a mix of hot and cool weather.

But in terms of rain, we had no problems as January is one of the driest months in Florida on average.

I'm just in the planning stages now and considering next Jan- does anyone know when the marathon is and how much of an impact it will have on attendance etc (2005)? Theres a homebuilder's convention Jan 13-16 at Orange Co. convention center near WDW...we know quite a few people who are planning on going and then spending a few days at WDW. I'm sure the impact will be minimal from that group though...
