Calling all Chicago DISers #3

Hi Chicago peeps!

Wonderful weather here. Yesterday was in the mid 80's. Today it should be in the high 60's. But it's really windy!!!

slo Sinus problems for me too. It's so windy here that allergens are just everywhere. I've had a bad sinus headache for 3 days now and it won't go away fully, even with taking sinus meds.

Well, I got to get back to school work here.

Have a great day everyone. :wave2:

Good Morning and Happy Friday the 13th....

I'm so glad it's Friday. It's been a rough week. Last Friday, I started with severe tooth pain. Called the dentist....left message....no call back. Saturday pain is worse...called dentist...left message...no call back. Went to Urgent Care (pain was insane) got pain meds (that didn't help much) and waited till Monday. Called dentist....left message...no call back!!

I called my insurance had to switch dentists and found out I had an exposed nerve and needed a root canal. I am finally feeling so much better. Wow did that hurt. Glad it's over. Still a bit of pressure but the nerve pain is gone.

Again...glad it's Friday...

Girl Scout Encampment this weekend. Haven't gone camping in many years. 13 girls in a cabin...I hope I can make it.

Hope everyone has a great day!!

Happy Friday here!!! We'll just skip over the 13th part!:)
DS has an orthodontist appnt today and DD has :dance3: Last weekday of Spring Break for us. Boy did that ever pass by fast. I have to work the weekend and then it's back to the drudgery.:sad2: Love getting to sleep in and not make lunches!
Disneynut, glad the new dentist fixed you up! I think I'd be calling the old one back just to yell! Maybe he was on spring break, though.
Bunchy, you don't have to rub it in!!! We are back to 60s around here and I am not for it!!:rolleyes1 Guess I really shouldn't complain since we have really had the nicest end of winter I can ever recall.
We had a glorious day yesterday-met with school friends (lots of them)at the park for picnic and play. Finally got DS out from behind :surfweb: and got some activity!
Slo, hope you are feeling a little better by now. Good luck this weekend with games.
Mac, hope you aren't too chilly today.

Hi Friends! :wave2:
Wow - we are in for some weather today and tonight I guess? I'm scared of lightning, so was up a lot last night.:worried: Our house was hit when I was about nine, and it's like it was yesterday.
Husband and I went up to Madison for our anniversary. Stayed at the Edgewater. They "upgraded" us to a suite next door to a frat house. :rolleyes2 Students partied until at least 4 AM on a Thursday night. That's when I moved to the farthest room from the noise and slept on the couch. The hotel is fun to see - deco style and we had a beautiful view of the lake. Just ask for a room away from noise if you ever go. Had dinner at Lombardinos. Almost asked Crissup's advice on it before we left, but didn't have time. It was excellent. Toured the Capital building, art and history museums, a smaller hotel in case there's a next time, Botanical gardens, and shopped the downtown and antique mall! I also got to go to the Whole Foods there! We don't have one here in the boonies. DH is a runner with A.D.D. and keeping up with him about killed me. :faint: We also looked at real estate on the way back. We're thinking of bailing out of Illinois. Don't think we could sell now though, so it will be a while. Looked at Rice Lake area. Overall...had fun, but came back exhausted.
Hope everyone is having a good weekend! Batten down the hatches. :duck:

Hope everyone had a good weekend. :goodvibes

Beautiful weather here, and it actually rained. That is a shocker!! :rotfl:

Anyone planning on seeing Disney's new Chimpanzee movie this coming weekend? I'm thinking of taking the kids. They really want to see it.

rmom I really like the towns of Madison and Middleton. Very beautiful area. I would move to Middleton! Darn those college kids!! :p

Tigg Does Kyle need braces? Or is he already wearing them?

Hi everyone. Kyle needs braces eventually. Crowded mouth and a bit of a crossbite. But he still has only lost the 4 top and bottom front teeth. So it will be some time. Kellie will need them too. She also has not lost enough teeth.:confused3That would be from my DH side of the family. My side has big mouths so no teeth issues.:rotfl:
Hope everyone had a nice weekend. We stayed dry here all weekend in spite of the threat of rain. Maybe we will get some tonight. Hearing a little thunder, but not seeing much else.
Busy week here this week, :dance3: dress rehearsals and performances this week, confirmation final class and actual confirmed, parent meeting for the DC trip, Kyle has a Fine Arts Festival and choir, and I think I shall :faint: Hope noone around here thinks there will be :laundy: or fine dining involved this week.:lmao:

Hi ho..:surfweb:

Well the weekend went by fast..
Saturday I was in lombard for a GF conference..very interesting..lots of breads, beer, cookies, crackers.. but still some neat stuff..worth the visit..
Sunday was my cousins 50 wedding aniversary.. ( yes he is much older LOL) anyway, lots of family came into town so it was fun to chat..

today, was a major milestone.. talked with BOTH of the kids.. YEAH!!!

DS#2 is thinking of coming in as he has interviews for internships with 2 major banks..YEAH! you can see me smile over the internet.. i am so happy to see him.I was thinking that he would be very marketable. so i am pleased that he is considering internships.

DS#1 is definitely got the job in Des Moines..so after the graduation ceremony we drive to Des moines to drop him off.. after 2 months there..he is going to the military..

As for me, the gluten free is going well, DH is still not interested in helping, so i make 2 meals or let him eat mine which he doesnt like to do.. tonight i had a big salad with some turkey on it, DH had left over ham and a cheese tortilla.. thing is that if it was a corn, not flour one , it would be gf.. but he wants to make a statement!.:confused3
.i think that tomorrow i will make PAD THAI he does eat that ..
My blog about going gf is at http://geffric-myglutenfreejourney....-i-got-started-and-what-is-next.html?spref=fb

Bunchkin:

I had to look at Wiki to see where Middleton is..... I don't think we went west of Madison at all, and that looks really nice. We'll have to research that one. Honestly...DH can't get the garage cleaned out, so I don't see this happening. You wouldn't believe what we have accumulated. I'd be happy to part with all of it.

Geffric:

You're so lucky your kids are motivated. Mine appear to be perfectly happy finding themselves. :rolleyes1 I'm trying not to worry about their underachievments.....they certainly aren't.

TiggerRN:

At least I didn't have to spring for braces...:rotfl2: One bit of luck with my two. :)

It was so muggy here this morning, and now it's COLD. Glad the wind died down though ~ sounded like our roof was going to fly off.

Got our tax forms to the accountant TODAY! We are right on top of things? :woohoo:

Have a good week everyone! :hippie:

My kids are excellent at the underachievement concept...at least my oldest. It has been a challenge with her...unless it involves the stage & sometimes that is even a struggle. She is in a Peter Pan production but it is really well below her level and she is bored out of her mind to go to it but she committed to it so she has to stick with it. Of course, the fact that one of the shows is on Prom night (she will still have time but it will be tight) might have something to do with it.

As for your roof flying off -- our siding actually DID in the wind. *sigh*....I have to wait until Monday for the insurance adjustor to come out. It's going to be a mess. Last I heard is they can't exactly match the color anymore but we don't have $$$ to reside the entire house. Many moons ago when this happened at our old house we were told they would pay to reside the 1 side that had issues but not the entire house. We may have to look like weirdos with a mis-matched colored house if that is the case. I do have the siding in the garage but several pieces that are still attached to the house are completely bent.

Is anyone else having trouble with the DIS? It won't keep me logged in. I actually had a long post ready the other day but lost it with it logging me out. Not a big deal, just a bit annoying.

Finally -- anyone familiar with 30 W. Downing Pl. in Aurora? I need to go there but I wonder what the parking is like? I know it's tight & bunch of 1 way streets but was wondering if that building has their own parking or if I need to find a pay lot & walk?

I hope everyone has a fantastic day!

Hi all!!!

Time is flying by so fast, that I didn't realize that it's been a long time since my last post. With spring here, we are constantly running from here, to there, to everywhere:drive: It's actually kinda fun, because the girls are having so much fun, and I love seeing them happy and excited about their activities.

Last Saturday I took Stephanie to see Titanic, and it was a very emotional couple of hours for me. I saw this in the theater twice when I was pregnant with her, and there was something so moving to take her to the same theater to see it with me. I know that may seem corny, but what can I say, I'm sometimes to sappy for my own good :rotfl: The movie was great to see on the big screen again. I forgot how eerie the sound of the ship moaning and creaking while it was sinking was, and how electricifing it was when the lights were flashing on and off. Now, I have seen this a billion times at home, but there's something so awesome about seeing it in the theater. It was money well spent :)

I'm glad you were able to get that fixed:). It's terrible to have pain, and have no one to help you - that's how I was when I tore my Planta Fascia a couple of years ago.

I finally got rid of it on Friday morning - it was crazy!! It took over 3 days to recover from all that crap blowing in my face. Thanks for asking :goodvibes

Kevin wants to see it, and so does Katie, so I told him to have a daddy/daughter date night. Stephanie and I sorta want to see it, so we'll wait until it comes out on DVD. Let us know what you think of it after you see it.:)

Well, I gotta run and get back to work.
Have a great weekend everyone!!

Hi Everyone,
I saw this thread and decided to post.
I live in South Chicagoland, currently pursuing moving to Orlando. I'm a teacher looking for a job, and IL isn't hiring it seems....

:wave2:

Happy Sunday...cleaned and got some exercise..just hanging now..gonna watch a movie later..

Hi all,
Hope you don't mind my jumping into this thread. I will have 24 hours in Chicago (okay, 23 hours and 34 minutes) during a connection. The thing is, it will be from midday Sunday 23-December to midday Monday 24-December, so I'm not sure if a lot of things will be closed.

Any suggestions of what to do would be greatly appreciated. I was thinking that it would be worthwhile staying downtown, rather than at the airport, but I could be convinced otherwise (though, of course, I'd be venturing away from the airport during the day). I have an HHonors certificate, so would like a Hilton family hotel, but could stay at any one (preferably one with easy access to the CTA - especially the blue line which appears to be the one that goes to the airport).

It will just be me (no kids) and I'd rather get to experience a bunch of the city rather than one thing in depth, given my very limited amount of time.

Thanks for any suggestions.
