Ooo ID that's so funny! My poor DD12 has light skin and dark hair! I'm waiting for the day she's going to ask. She's also going to need to need a lip wax by high school! She doesn't care now but she will then. I got to a great woman in Morton Grove so I'll take her there. Norma is the best!

DG ~ Yes cleaning can be fufilling! Kinda organizes the mind. I did some administrative house keeping today and I'm going to do some other stuff during the week. Makes me feel productive!

Ha! Acutally it's filing, clearing my desk of the mountain of papers; I had a folder's worth of receipts to match up to expense reports (reports are submitted and the receipts go in a file but i like to put them with the appropriate report ) wiping down with disinfectant. Tomorrow I am going to attack some forms, send out some packets and I may even go though another file!

I am taking off on Friday and Monday so I am trying to get squared away.

Hi gang! Just a quick check in today. DS's baseball is over for the season and we have nothing, absolutely nothing, planned this week. So...need to get home from work at a reasonable time and get caught up around the house and in the yard. Fall ball starts soon enough.

Mac - Have fun with Mr Mac in Mackinaw! We'll see you when you get back.

ID - Oh, my...how did shaving lessons go? My ds turns 13 next week and I am so not ready for a teenager!

Took DD to her 6th grade physical today. 11-1/2 yo. Insightful! I tried NOT to watch tho (privacy issues for my DD). Shaving seems to be my newest (repeated) explanation - only under her arms tho, she skates with sleeveless outfits. I told her tho, that once she starts shaving, it NEVER ends! She asked about shaving her legs a couple months ago, and I said no, and wait until the 'other' shaving happens. Looks like I may have to give in on the legs now too?

When did you all start shaving your legs???

I also had her take the 1st of the HPV vaccine. 2 months, 2nd dose, 3rd dose 6 months from today. Anyone else here - Sandy, Nicole, feel that way??

I'm still learning about my DD - God-willing.

My friend said to wait until she wants to do it, but she is getting pretty hairy - I just don't know. Did you show your DD with a regular razor, or did you buy an electric razor? I think I'm going to get Stephanie an electric razor first, because she'll definitly cut herself with a regular razor - she can be sorta careless

Kim - I will be having Stephanie take the injections too She hasn't had one yet, but she will when she can. I need to call her doctor and see when she needs her next physical - she's going into 5th grade, but if she didn't miss the cutoff here, she would be going into 6th grade - so I'm not sure when she needs her physical and shots




I gotta run and get to work a little early today, so I can leave right at 5pm - I need to go meet a client after the store closes.

Morning all. Yes I did get pool time yesterday and Monday!Now if it only came with a cool tropical drink complete with an umbrella and pineapple wedge. Kids had a great time at the pool.
Today is library day. I also plan to do some school supply shopping and get some groceries. Kids are dreading the school thing. DD will get my old backpack this year. I have grown weary of buying backpacks that fall apart during the first semester at school. I figure, if I could use that Eastpak all through nursing school carrying my heavy nursing books, it should hold up for her.
KimRaye and ID, my DD has needed to shave since birth . Needless to say, she is still her same hairy self. Doesn't seem to bother her, so I am not going to suggest it because, as you've said, once you start.....As far as the HPV vaccine, the jury is still out. DD is nowhere near developing anything, let alone a bust of any sort, so I am hoping I am safe there for a little while longer. I am still watching the side effects of that vaccine before I rush to get her that one. She had 3 to get this year for her physical as it was-chicken pox booster, meningitis, and tetanus.
Mac, enjoy your weekend away. I am looking at next Tues or Wed as a possible Six Flags day. Anyone else?

Ladies ~ Meg is going for her physical (6th Grade) next week. She asked me about her legs and I told her the same, wait until it starts under the arms. She is still bare there so we are good but I have a feeling with the way she is developing/ growing that is not to far off. This is more or less a descision for CB to make however. As for the vaccine, I've spoken to Mike about it and we agree that she should have it. I think I will ask CB and see what she feels. I'm a believer in every ounce of prevention especially since we never know what the future holds.

Vaccinations. . . I know I had them. I'm not sure how I feel about them for infants but can you wait and get them let's say when a child is 4 or 5? I'm not sure. I think that's an awful lot of stuff to put into a body that is still developing. I admit I'm not up to date on this as I haven't had the need to be.

Slo ~ All plans have fell through and we are now lookign at staying home and workign on projects. I'm disappointed but I will be happy when all is done! I'm hoping that my SIL and her family get home from camping today or tomorrow so that they can come over on Sat. do work on the crawl space.Fingers crossed!

ID ~ Congrats on the basement! Hopefully I will be just as successful as you! How did DS's playdate go?

gee, all these questions about shaving......i had boys.
i dealt with facial hair with them........


i was a very late bloomer.
it wasn't until i was 16 that i started shaving the legs and my body hair is blonde and very sparse from the beginning.

my suggestion would be the moms buy them an electric shaver.
if they use the razor, they could easily nick themselves and they might not be eager to shave.

Hi guys! Dropped DS off at day camp and went to the Farmers' Market, everything looked SO good. Picked up some white corn, peaches, apples and an artichoke foiccia (sp?) bread. It is an absolutely beautiful day! Did anyone else hear that we broke a record in Chicago? Coldest summer in 67 years!!

The shaving lesson went well. I did not get her an electric razor, never even thought of it. I was surprised how much hair she actually has, being fair and blonde it didn't show up that much. I noticed a few weeks ago the beginning sprouts of underarm hair so that will be next.

esbrick - you probably will have another year before any real "need" for shaving. DD12 is starting 7th grade and I didn't even consider it last year.

Tiggerrn - I'm with you on the HPPV vaccine, still in the wait and see catagory. Since I don't aniticpate DD becoming sexually active hopefully for quite sometime I'll wait.

slo - I waited until DD asked. I am in no way ready for this step so I wasn't going to rush it. On another CB thread some people are starting their DDs off with those Smooth Away pads you rub on the skin rather than actual shaving. I've seen them at Target, maybe that is an option for Stephanie but I'd wait until she initiates the request.
*Required physicals have been changed from 5th grade to 6th grade last year so Stephanie has another year off.

Kim - I don't remember when I started shaving, probably not until older as my DMom was definitely against any shaving. She grew up in the 1930s and never shaved and couldn't understand why anyone would.

momto1 - enjoy your week off of activities!

Well, have to run. Forgot to put the load of towels in the dryer yesterday so I have to re-run the load. The girls are also asking for lunch. Enjoy the beautiful day everyone!

ID ~ Farmer's Market YUM! I would love to go to the one by me on Saturday. I think that is a plan! I love to walk around and see and taste things there! I used to go to the one on Division when I lived down town! It was great! Grab a coffee and stroll the street and go home and eat! Yum! As for vaccinations I have heard both sides on the pros and cons. I was vaccinated and I'm ok (Dependent of course on who you ask!) and as for Autism I have heard what I perceive are valid arguments on both sides, however, each child/person is different and variables are different so looking for ONE answer to a "puzzle" would seem to be difficult.

I'm not sure I remember when I started shaving to be honest. I remember it was a little pink Lady Schick Round thing though and I was excited. I would recommend the Venus if you can in the beginning. It is easier to contour to legs and underarms. I don't shave as often anymore but do have a fusion for emergencies. Again, I go to my lady Norma at House of Wax on Waukeegan and she takes care of everything for me. And yes it hurts but it's worth it!

There are so many razors out there now, with lady protective things - lotions, strips of comfort, etc. I would try one of those first. I'm not sure an electric razor on the first try, IF hairy, would be that pleasant. I have a Venus hanging in my shower, and I have something else as well . I myself have about 4 hairs on each leg, and maybe 6 under each arm so, I'm not much of a shaver but, I like to be quick and comfortable - nick-free - when I do. (I started shaving with my dad's straight-edge razor! Lot of nicks and, he wasn't happy I was using it either!

Well, Drs. want them in every year, to make a buck but, Stephanie isn't required (here at least) until 6th grade to have the physical and school sheet filled out. The HPV is acceptable by drs to begin anywhere between 9-12, I believe I read. 11 to 12 being the best. Thanks for letting me know your feelings on this, too.

Actually, it has nothing to do with 'developing', except into sexual women. It's to hopefully vaccinate them against HPV (and cervical cancer most importantly for me) should they ever encounter a sexual partner that carries it. I KNOW it's quite an early 'thought' about our daughters but, let's be real (and hopeful for them, too LOL) that they MAY some day - a long way away - have sex. Between 9-12 is the recommended 'start' date - for the VACCINE - NOT SEX, obviously!

I am looking at next Tues or Wed as a possible Six Flags day. Anyone else?

I think my skater DD has already shaved her underarms, unbeknowst to me, due to the 'nubs' I saw, which makes me think she needs to shave her legs also, soon - for skating reasons. My cousin was a swimmer and HE shaved every part - well, I suppose almost every part - of his body, for speed. No matter what tho, I'm holding out! Until the last possible minute - which might be next week when she skates a solo exhibition.


"An ounce of prevention is worth a pound of cure" - at least for me, in this case, when cervical cancer is a possible outcome. Chicken pox vaccinations are standard now but HPV is new and questioned? I don't object to ANYONE'S decision to NOT do it but, IF you're also getting the REGULAR immunizations then, why not this one for your DD and her future, same as the rest?


Believe me, I KNOW a family at school that has had NO immunizations for their children whatsoever, never a shot in their life, and they also contracted "NON CONTAGIOUS PINK EYE", according to Mom!! OMGosh, how stupid is that?!

My 21yo DS came home from work today with an obviously unshaven face! On purpose. They think 'grub' is in, when he's IN A SUIT & TIE for work! Go figure! I think HE needs a shaving lesson before Kelly!

I was an early bloomer, mac, but I WAS blond and also sparse on the hairy end too - hence my question to all of YOU - for some help! I still think with the lady shavers these days, that they would be good FIRST, THEN an electric for follow ups, maybe, if needed. What ever happened to NAIR?!?!

Glad that shaving went well! Underarms are the PITS!

As for having BOYS, like I said before, DS needs to shave too, he has hormones , and there are 'times' when I SWEAR he's PMSing! Boys are no treat over girls, imo!

Kim Preventing HPV is not the issue with the vaccine. It is the side affects being reported from the vaccine itself. Important thing to remember is that it only protect against certain types of HPV you may still get cervical cancer. That said if I had a daughter I'm not sure what I would do. I agree prevention is wonderful.

How is everyone vegetable garden doing? Mine is slow going a tomatoes are pitiful. I know it seems early but I planted before Memorial day.

I am moving so slow today I better get in the shower before I am late to work.
