Calling all Chicago DISers #3

Hi gang! I have been reading but not posting trying to keep up at work.

I will be in WDW Sept 25 - leaving on Oct 2. So, I will be there when Mac is but not Geffric When is Kimraye going to be there?

Lori

Me and my fiance are flying into Midway on July 29 at 8 am. We have tickets to see the cubs play that day at 1. I would like for us to go eat a really good breakfast that morning...maybe somewhere where locals go that's on our way to Wrigley (we will be on the train)...suggestions?

That night, we are planning on doing the pier (I love ferris wheels and I've never done this one at night). I know there are fireworks on Wednesdays...is there a pirate cruise at night where you can see the fireworks? Where do we need to eat dinner (we will be staying in this area)?

The next day we are completely free until the White Sox Yankees game at 7:11 pm. What do we need to do? I love aquariums but would hate to go to one without our son. My fiance wants to do the architectural boat tour...is it worth the time? I want to go up in the Hancock building and go on a great pressed penny search. Advice for the day?

We leave the next morning around 10:45 a.m. Any other breakfast ideas that would be on our way back to Midway?

Thanks so much in advance!!!

Andrea

nd5056, I think I will steer clear of the glass balconies. Something about heights and seeming as if there is nothing underneath you.....:rolleyes1

:scared1:

...
nd5056 Unless they give out parachutes you would not see me on that ledge!!!! :sad2:

:scared1: :scared1:

......i suddenly have the urge to run to the bathroom and hurl.
heights give me the willys.

:scared1: :scared1: :scared1:

...so I unleashed hysteria and stimulated the stomach, pardon me while I’ll crawl back into the hole I came out of… :duck:

May I suggest a nice, down to earth stroll at the newly (and partially I understand) opened Riverwalk at the heart of out Downtown instead??? :flower3:

Andrea, only true baseball fan flies to Chicago to watch the games and leaves after that. So, may I personalize your activity based on that.

Some of the Unique places are Harry Caray's Tavern, Sluggers or Goose Island Brewery. Links are HERE:

For fine dinning you can go to Harry Caray's Italian Steakhouse or The Signature Room (top notch dinning and $$$$)

As for what to do before the White Sox game, have you been to Chicago before?

If not I’d just take a long walk down on Michigan Ave. starting at the Riverwalk. It offers one of the greatest architectural view of the city. Then I’d walk down to Millennium Park & check out the “Bean”, then continue to the Buckingham Fountain, after that go to the lakefront and fallow the path all the way to the Planetarium. This walk offers great views of the city.

If you’re a thrill seeker, you may visit the newly open Sears Tower 103rd floor glass balconies as posted HERE:

I'll have to let others here closer to downtown give you more ideas...

Thanks so much! Those are some great ideas. I have been once before...last year we went to two games in 24 hours...we were so tired when our plane landed in Nashville that next night! Obviously we didn't have much time to do much sightseeing then but we did do the pier and it was neat! The baseball themed stuff is really neat...I know he would like all that bc he is the Cubs fan (I'm the Yankees fan).

It's like Christmas morning here :santa: (I used this smilie in July)
Katie normally is very difficult to wake up, but she is already up, and the first thing out of her mouth was, "Sissy! Sissy! Sissy!" She is so excited to go pick her up this morning:yay::yay: She said she's going to give her lots of hugs and kisses when she sees her - she really loves her sister!!!!

nd5056 - those pictures are totally awesome!!!!! Thank you so much for posting them!!!!:)

To everyone else - :wave2:
I read everyone's posts, and I will try to comment later :)

I gotta go jump in the shower and get ready to go pick up Stephanie.
If I'm not on tomorrow, which is a strong possibility, with us having company tomorrow, I want to say......

Happy 4th of July!!!!!!

I hope you all have a wonderful and safe holiday!!!!!

Life is now back to normal in my house.:goodvibes

Stephanie was extrememly anxious to come home from camp - she had no problem saying goodbye:sad2:. I do think she had a good time, but there were many elements of camp that she didn't like. She wasn't thrilled about the cabin being dirty (this surprised me a little), she hated the well water, she didn't like no bathroom in the cabin, and the overall comforts of home. She said she would go back next year, but we'll see what next year brings :scratchin

Well, I gotta run and start getting ready for the day today - company starts coming over at 3pm.
Have a good day today!!!

I better get myself moving. I hope everyone has a safe and happy 4th

Good 4th of July Saturday Morning Chicagoland Homies.......

we owe them a lot.

my list for today:

after a few more cups of coffee, i'm sure my list will grow.

Happy 4th..

yesterday saw the fireworks .. they were great.. not to music though but great.. today Eric was in the parade. I was much bigger than last time I went. The he wanted to go to Sam Ash in Villa Park .. we ended up getting him a new drum set, cases etc.. now he needs to find a job to pay for it..

Gonna lazy around the rest of the day.. just laundry/cleaning/cooking and resting .. have a great 4th..

Well, only 20min left but Happy 4th everyone! We went to the fireworks in Itasca tonight. All I can say is WOW! They were truly amazing. They claim to be the 2nd largest fireworks with downtown Chicago being 1st. They have music too! DH got a free parking pass through his work and we were on the top of a parking garage with a completely unobstructed view. We will definitely be back next year!

slo - so glad Steph had a good time, I'm sure you must be happy to have her home though. We take DD7 to camp tomorrow but only until Wed. She can't wait!

Hersey - I hope it dried up for you. It was such a miserable day but then the sun came out and it turned out to be a nice evening, chilly but dry for us around here.

mac - is the litter box sparkling, lol. Hope you had some fun today too.

geffric - you were in my neck of the woods today. DH sometimes goes there.

Well, the kids are tucked in and my eyelids are drooping too. Wish our "lovely" neighbor across the street would stop shooting off fireworks, it is 11:40pm! Think I'll turn in too.

Tomorrow is church, drop off DD7 at camp and dinner at the in-laws. Hope everyone has a great Sunday tomorrow! :flower3:

Morning.. up early to book ADRs for my Oct trip.. i did the online system and it was easy and worked fine..

so my dining plans are

With MAC - Kona, Tony's, LeCellier, Chef's
With others - Boma breakfast, coral Reef and Tutto Italia

new are Tony's and Italy.. This will be great..

Hi all-
Happy Belated Independence Day to all here on the Chicago board!

I haven't been here in quite awhile. Life is real busy for me :upsidedow
I haven't been on the Disboards much lately as I used to.

DH's father passed away in May and we had a memorial service at our church for him.
Too many end of school yr activities that went on in May and early June.
Both Chrissy and Matthew have graduated out of elementary school and will be 7th graders in junior high this upcoming school yr! Sometimes I don't know where the time goes! If you can believe, I am looking forward to them going to junior high. It is going to be little better atmosphere for both my kids than how 6th grade was in our elementary school this past yr.

We went to the Dells in mid-June for a 3-4 day mini-vacation. If anyone has been to Mt. Olympus water/theme park this yr so far, they have the wave pool there. It is very similar to Typhoon Lagoon, as of the wave intensity. The kids loved it!

This is for Geffric- Matthew is going to Napowan for a week, the first week of August! He is really looking forward to it, with his boy scout troop :)

So that's what's going on with me in a nutshell. Keeping busy with my kids this summer. Chrissy has 2 more weeks of summer school, half days of summer school. Matthew starts up summer band class very soon. Matthew keeping busy with his weekly boy scout troop meetings.
At our church, Matthew was baptized last Sunday! We do adult baptisms(anyone 12yrs and older). He felt he was ready, so he was baptized outside in our church pond with about 700 other jr highers, high schoolers, and adults!

Sad about the news, with the CM killed with the monorail accident :(

Hope all is going well with everyone. I just haven't had a chance to read up on all that goes on here.

Have a good day, everyone :)

Good Morning all!
And Happy (belated) Independence Day to all!!! :cool1:

We had the best time watching fireworks last night.
We are soooo high up that as we were driving to one of the local hotel/casinos to watch their fireworks we could see some going off all over the valley. It was such a sight!
Then later we drove by Lauren's new school to see the view from their parking lot, which has an unobstructed view of the Strip in the far distance, and it was awesome!!!
We saw more fireworks than we've ever seen before at one time!! :yay:
I wish all of you could have seen it, it was that amazing!!!:goodvibes

geffric That's great that the online ressie system worked fine for you. And your ADR's all sound yummy! :)

irish dancer Hope your DD enjoys camp!!

Gotta run. Lots to do today! Running to Costco and then to Bass Pro Shop and then to the Disney outlet store. :yay:
