Calling all Chicago DISers #3

My 3 day weekend is over :sad1::sad1:

Did you all have a good weekend?
Our 4th of July was so soggy :guilty:
We were stuck in the garage and under tents all afternoon - such a bummer!!!
Thank goodness the rain finally stopped so the guys could do their fireworks. We had one mishap with that though - one rocket was bad and went under my MIL's chair and blew up. She lost her hearing for awhile, and the after spray slightly burned my friends DD's arm:eek:That was not good!!!! But despite the rain, and the mishap, the party was still okay.

Yesterday was a better day.
The weather was beautiful :sunny: and after I cleaned up the house, I spent the afternoon in the pool. My neighbors DD came over and swam too, and they all played so nice together, and I just layed there and floated - I really needed this float time:) Then I relaxed in front of the tv last night - it was great!!! I really needed this relaxation time, because the next couple of work weeks are going to be very busy and very stressful - I have a ton to do!!!!

HERSEY - Did you get a lot of rain by you? I hope you were able to do your cookout.

Mac - Thanks for having our back at church, because I skipped this week

geffric - How is Eric and his band doing? Do they have a lot of playing engagements this summer?
**Your ADR's look great!!!:thumbsup2

ID - I'm glad you had a good time at the fireworks:)I hope your DD has a good time at camp.

Rose - My condolences about your dad passing away:guilty:
**Congrats to your kids for going into middle school. Stephanie starts middle school next year too, but here they start at 5th grade:eek:I'm not to thrilled with this, but the parents I know with kids that went to middle school at 5th grade tell me that it's not that bad - I hope they are right.
**Congrats to Matthew on his baptism:angel:

Bunchkin - I'm so glad you all enjoyed your fireworks - they sound incredible!!!!:)

Well, I gotta run and get ready for my busy week at work
Have a good day today everyone!!!

Can I please join this group :)? I don't live in Chicago (Decatur, IL, actually) but i WISH I did!

Good Morning Everyone! :flower3: sorry i've been MIA lately. I've been on vacation from work and basically just doing things around the house and with my dad, sisters and mike. dad and i went to see transformers on friday! I enjoyed it. the first one was better but isn't that how it always goes? it was 2 1/2 hours and probably could have been shortened by a half hour if they edited out all the non-relavent scenes. but i still enjoyed it and would definitely see it again!

Glad to hear everyone had a nice holiday! I love the fourth of July! :goodvibes

Question.....
Am I the only one getting tired of hearing about Michael Jackson's death?
I loved Michael Jackson in the 80's, and I was sad to hear of his passing, but holy cow, enough is enough!!!!:headache:
I had to get that out of my system!!!! ;)

Took - :welcome:
Thank you for coming by, and please do come by often!!!
We would love to get to know you!!!!

DG - That's nice that you had a productive vacation at home:) I wonder if my brother saw Transformers yet, and what his opinion is of it :scratchin . He is a Transformers fanatic, and I know he really enjoyed the first movie. I should watch the first one sometime.

Well, I gotta get going so I can go to work super early - I have so much to do!!!!
I normally go to my Leads Group today, but I'm skipping it to go to work.
Have a good day!!!!

Good Morning Everyone! :flower3: I'm off of work again today. My sister, dad and I are taking my nephews to see the Harry Potter exhibit at MSI. I'm excited! :goodvibes

Slo ~ I agree. I used to love Michael Jackson and was sad to hear about his passing but seriously, the media is taking it too far.:sad2:

Everyone else ~ :wave2: hope you all are doing well! :goodvibes

Morning guys! Just a quick drive by as I have to leave in a minute to take DS to day camp.

slo - you are so not alone, I totally agree! Maybe after the memorial today it will die down a bit but I think it will be wall to wall coverage today.

disneygal - enjoy the MSI, would love to hear about the exhibit.

Took - welcome to the thread, hope you visit often!

mac - thanks for having our backs this week, we skipped this week too. :guilty:

:wave2: to everyone else.

Have to run. DSs camp is going to Navy Pier today to the Children's Museum - lucky ducks! Have a great day everyone!!! :flower3:

Hi

morning..wanted to stop by and say hi.. been busy sort of the past few days.. as SLO said we had rain and more rain..

Eric decided that he needed a new drum set.. ( did I post this already?)Anyway been running around with him.. he plays at the Clearwater Theater on Saturday in Dundee.. so he has had lots of practices here for the show..

And the big news is I got very very tired of sharing a computer with DH.. I guess I don't share well but then neither does he.. so i looked and looked and looked for weeks now but finally went and bought myself a $400 laptop with 4 gb RAM and a 320 hard drive.. it has Vista but is upgradable to Windows 7 for free.. so last night we set it up .. so I am back at my desk, not sharing the computer room with the boys, ..
:thumbsup2

slo: so your MIL had the heat seat, eh.....

and a big shout out to all the other homies here.

So i am weak.. so weak..

I had points left over( free room) / an AP/ and a free airline ticket.. so what else could I do???

Yep .. going back in December..I am so bad... anyone wanna join me??

Hi all. Hope everyone had a great holiday weekend. Ours was wet here as well. Kids have lots of soggy, sticky parade candy. Want some?!!!!:rotfl:It dried out just in time for fireworks thank goodness.
Mac, I would love to change my dates and join you, but my birthday is the 21st. Are you flying Southwest? And where are you staying? Maybe I will need to forgo the birthday deal and reconsider.
Bunchkin, sounds like you had a great fireworks celebration. I had to laugh here. When the fireworks started, Kyle wanted to know "Where's the music?" He's a Disney fireworks snob!!! Family members were laughing too but he thought he was really being cheated out of something.
I will agree with everyone on the MJ stuff. He wasn't a president or a princess (and he made me miss my soap!!!:rotfl2:)I felt the worst for the other actors/actresses that have also all recently passed and have barely been a blip on the news radar. He's story headlines, lots to gossip about, therefore, that's all we get. I liked him well enough in the 80s but I guess in the event of death, all the bad things said are forgotten and he just is the King of Pop and nothing else. So we went to the pool today and I did :laundy:
Slo, I'll bet you are happy to have Steph home again. Are the girls getting along like best friends?
Hi, Rose. Nice to hear from you again. Glad you are doing well and the kids are good. Sorry to hear of your family's loss.
geffric and DG, it would be neat to have a minimeet at WDW. I may really need to consider this.
Well, I guess I should finish folding and putting away that last load and start thinking about dinner option. :headache:
Later all.

TTTiiiiiggggernnnnnnnnnnn, pencil me in your calendar for 2010.
will be the same dates that year for the motherland again.....:rolleyes1

i don't do midway.
too expensive for me once i add in the carfare to get there and back.
have done midway twice before with the last time being 2003.
carfare one way was $90 plus tip.
double that and add it to a ticket and you get the picture.

i fly out of mitchell field depending if it is a non stop flight.
i usually fly out of o'hare as it is much cheaper has quite a few non stops and better hours.

Aa was selling tickets for $138 rt again last month for the sept/oct dates.
stupid me bought my tickets in feb for $158 rt.

reconsider for this year if you can switch it....

sw is going into mitchell field but don't know if i will use them.
if they start there and make a stop at midway to pick up more passengers, the tickets will be higher then.

I agree also about the MJ stuff. My heart broke for his daughter though I remember my dad's funeral. She was braver than I. I couldn't talk at my dad's funeral.

Welcome to are new friends :wave2:

Yes saturday was a little soggy here. But it stopped raining around 8:00 so we did go and see the fireworks.:3dglasses

Hi all!!

I'm tired of all the MJ coverage too.
I was a fan in the early & mid 80's, but lost interest in the early 90's.
I happened to turn on the tv right at the end of the memorial and saw his daughter talking. I actually cried. I'm soft hearted that way, I cannot see other people cry. Plus, I was thinking to myself "why did they put this child on the sage and in front of millions to speak"?????? :sad2: Let's tell all of the world what a great person your daddy was.
The man had lots of issues, lots. The media feeds off of it. But they are not to blame for all this coverage. They are not the ones who organized this whole memorial.
Lots of great people die every day, very few of them get the recognition they deserve.

My mother inlaw is in the hospital again and should be released today. She took a fall on Sunday and hit her head, needing stiches. They were retaking a cat scan today because they thought they saw a mass near her brain.
We're waiting to see what they find.

slo So how much did you pay the person who shot the fireworks under your MIL's chair???:laughing:

mac Even at $158 that a good price for airfare! :thumbsup2

Tiggerrn Have you found someone to go with you late in Oct?

disneygal Tell us all about the exhibit? :yay: I never got to take my kids to it before we moved, so I'd like to hear about it.

Took Welcome to the Chicago thread! You don't have to live in Chi-town to be an official member of this thread!! :goodvibes :flower3:

Sister in law should be in town tomorrow..........YEEEEHAAAAAAWWWW!!!:headache:

Hey, geffric, we're going in Dec., too, 9-15. We'll overlap a bit with Pop Warner, but we'll be there with DH's family, so we'll just enjoy the company.
We won't be at the All-Star or Pop Century hotels, which are supposed to be the worst when Pop Warner is going on.

SLO, I'm with you. The Michael Jackson "fanfare" has grown tiresome (and I LIKED some of his music). We did have kind of a cool experience the other night, however: Our local theater owner was showing some previews before the film, Public Enemies (good film, btw). He showe an old Michael J Pepsi commercial from the 1980's (the one with the kid in the red jacket and white glove dancing when, from across the street, the Jackson 5 come up and start dancing with him and his friends). The theater owner told us he had found the commercial in some old material up in the storage room and thought he'd show it "in honor." The audience clearly appreciated the thought (I'd forgotten the commercial until that moment). ANyway, it was a nice, understated testimony of sorts.

Has anyone else seen Public Enemies? Lots of Chicago stuff.

Took Part of Public Enemy was filmed near our old house in Lockport. Their 'downtown' area is filled with historical buildings that they used as backdrop. I can't wait to see the movie!!

MIL is back home. DH just came home from taking her there. No mass, the first cat scan must have been a dirty one or the tech read it wrong.

bunchie, that is good news no mass with your mil.

she doesn't need to have another medical problem.
i hope she is doing ok.

i'll see the johnny depp movie.
it's on my list but so are so many others from even 2 years back...

MJ passed away LAST Thursday, right? 6/25? We left last Sat for Montana for 8 days and we got home Sunday night and the Memorial was TODAY?! Yikes, this is stretching it, for sure and, I had a week AWAY from that nonsense. I won't go further on MJ's most recent transformations but, I did enjoy his music and talent WHEN he had it - earlier. I think the Lisa Marie Presley marriage - the Elvis connection, imo - says a lot about what this poor man wanted but, couldn't handle - just like Elvis. :sad1:

Elvis died before the internet and, that was BIG even Then! :sad1: NOT like MJs memorial tho.

My heart goes out to his children. What a burden/legacy they will carry - forever. :guilty:

jmho

Way cool. Friends here in Decatur had their street (and possibly their house) used in an upcoming Matt Damon pic. They stood in their front yard and watched the camera crews. we're all agog to see the movie just so we can say 'Hey, that's our tree!' or whatever, lol!.

KimRaye, I agree with you about those kids. And in that family, too, where a certain amount of flakiness seems normal! It does seem as if they've been a bit protected from the media for most of their lives--a good thing, IMHO.

BTW, has anyone here ever lost something at O'Hare and called their lost and found? Did you ever get a call back?
