Calling all Chicago DISers #3

I gotta share how much I love my neighbors - I think I've spoken of them before.
I had to work until 7pm (actually I was at work since 8am - a long day), and when I came home no one was home. I called Kevin and asked him where he was and he said on a call (FD). I asked if our girls were with him, and he said they were next door. I asked how long they had been there, and he said since 3:45pm:eek::eek: I asked him if he had called her, and he said no, because her DH was with him (he's on the FD too). So I rushed next door, and here the girls are sitting at her kitchen table eating dinner - I felt so bad. But she assured me that it was okay, and she was happy to help. I am SO BLESSED to have them as neighbors - I just love them - they are just wonderful wonderful people!!!!!:goodvibes:goodvibes

Did anyone watch the Michael Jackson memorial last night?
I was flipping channels last night, and saw that it was on, and I watched for a short while. Even though I am SO tired of hearing about Michael Jacksons death, I would have liked to watch more of that memorial. Maybe I can catch it online (like I have time to watch it  ) I am glad to hear that I'm not the only one tired of hearing about all this, and I hope that after the media talks about it today, that it was start to end.

I have another very busy day at work today - alot of work came in for me to do during the month of July. One highschool brought in 40 items, a company has brought in 45 items (more is coming on Thur), another highschool brought in 6 items, and I may be doing about 25 items for Stephanie's school. I have all this, plus the everyday people's things that come in the door. This is a very good month for me!!!!

Have a great day everyone!!!

MIL is back home. DH just came home from taking her there. No mass, the first cat scan must have been a dirty one or the tech read it wrong.

good news Bunchy. She has so much other stuff going on, it is good she doesn't have one more thing.. how are you and the kids doing?? this is such a difficult time for you.

Hey, geffric, we're going in Dec., too, 9-15. We'll overlap a bit with Pop Warner, but we'll be there with DH's family, so we'll just enjoy the company.

took

maybe we can meet for a cuppa coffee or dole whip to say hi.,.

My heart goes out to his children. What a burden/legacy they will carry - forever. :guilty:

jmho

I agreee. I could have never spoken at my fathers funeral. too emotional.. poor kids..

How was Montana? Have fun??

with all this rain.. yes it is rainning here again.. at least I don't have to water the tomatoes.. LOL

I am driving Eric and friends to Great American after school today , hope the weather gets better.. MAC wanna meet abot 1:30ish??

Good Morning Everyone! :flower3: The museum was a lot of fun! We really enjoyed the exhibit. It was pretty cool to see all the costumes and how big some of the actors (i.e. Harry and Hermione) have grown. They also had the Hogwarts express and a lot of other props. My nephew's favorite thing I think was seeing the dementor. He'll be 4 in October so when he said 'expecto potornum' the exhibit worker nearby LOVED it!! She was talking to him about HP for a few minutes. It was really cute. Oh, and he FINALLY got to see Dobby. This kid has a Dobby obsession I think. Loves the house elf! All morning, 'when are we going to see Dobby?' He was so excited! It was a neat exhibit, I enjoyed myself thoroughly!

Way cool. Friends here in Decatur had their street (and possibly their house) used in an upcoming Matt Damon pic. They stood in their front yard and watched the camera crews. we're all agog to see the movie just so we can say 'Hey, that's our tree!' or whatever, lol!.
took

I was the same way with The Dark Night. When I saw the movie in the theater I got all excited when they did the chase scene on lower wacker. As they are going down from upper wacker you see a Lyric Opera flag... I was so excited!

Bunchy ~ so glad to hear the MIL is back home and the scan came back ok.

Geffric ~ YAY for new computers!! :cool1:

Mac ~ where is Mitchell Field? We normally go out of Midway b/c it's closest to us and much smaller than o'hare. Mike wants to use AA points though and they don't fly out of midway.

Kim ~ welcome back! Hope you had a wonderful trip!:goodvibes

Slo ~ Thank you for sharing your story about your neighbors. It is really nice and refreshing to hear a nice story of someone doing what they can to help!

Everyone else ~ :wave2: have a wonderful day!

BTW, has anyone here ever lost something at O'Hare and called their lost and found? Did you ever get a call back?

took

you won't like what i have to say..........it is based on personal experience.

if you have lost something, i highly doubt it will ever be turned in or if it has been, that it will be returned.

the baggage handlers and some other airport employees don't have the reputation of having the hightest honesty.

i bought my son a very expensive japanese watch from japan at christmas time.
since he had a watch on his wrist during his flight, his japanese watch was in the checked bag.
no note form tsa on a bag check but things were taken out of his checked bag.
once son picked up his luggage, he wanted to get a snack he put in the bag.
the food snacks, his watch and a few other things were stolen.

long drawn out process with officials at the airport with only a report taken about the thief.

5 months later, nothing has turned up.
he was told there have been problems with issues like this with the employees involved.

so, if you left something at the airport in error, i wouldn't get your hopes up on getting it back.

others may have had a better experience than we have had.
this was not the first incident of us having this happen.

yes, son was stupid to have it in his checked bag instead of his carry on.

slo, if you can't find the replays on line, try youtube.
we will be saturated with this "tribute" for a long time......

so many people said, let's remember michael for the music.

i still remember him as being charged as a child molester and druggie.
even the first autopsy stated his body was riddles with scars from injection needles.

i know.
i might be standing alone on this but i am so tired of him being put on a pedestal and everyone bowing down to him.
i liked a lot of his music, i have some of his cd's.

i know the memorial was all of the doing of his family.
they dearly loved him and wanted everyone else to do likewise.
that is a normal reaction of a family when a loved one passes, especially before their time.

i do have to add it is pitiful for his kids.
they loved their daddy and nothing will change that.

hopefully, they will be able to adjust and have a normal life.

their sorrow is no greater than the families that have lost a father, son, mate in the war overseas.

my vent is over.
you can proceed with the normal conversation now...

I am driving Eric and friends to Great American after school today , hope the weather gets better.. MAC wanna meet abot 1:30ish??

this is what happens when i don't get the subscription notifications on the threads......i discover much later, things i wish i knew about prior.

i would have loved to meet up with you geffric!!
i wish you would have called me.
i'm so close to six flags......can you say ten minutes......

BTW, has anyone here ever lost something at O'Hare and called their lost and found? Did you ever get a call back?

Couple years ago, CarolAnnC had to fly out to California for something. After she got there, she realized that she had lost her Citizen Disney watch that I had bought her. She was very upset trying to think of where she could have lost it. I started thinking it may have been at security. So, I went to the TSA page and found a link for things lost at the security check points. I believe it's a seperate number from O'Hare's main Lost and Found. Anyway, I called them, left a description of the watch and got a call back from the TSA that they had it. On Carol's return trip, she had to run up to the TSA control center and pick it up.

no note form tsa on a bag check but things were taken out of his checked bag.

I've been carrying a pocket knife since I was 5 years old (back when it wasn't so unusual for a 5 year old to have a pocket knife). Since I've very rarely ever been without a pocket knife for the past 40 years, I'm lost without it and don't even think about it otherwise. Anyway, on one of our Disney trips just after 9/11, I realized I still had my pocket knife on me as we got to the airport. So, I quickly stuffed it into my suit case prior to checking it. When I got to Disney, I searched for it and it was never to be found again. Someone swiped it out of the suitcase. Cost me $50 to replace it. Now, I usually bury it deep in the suit case when I pack and haven't had a problem since.

Hi guys! Brrr! What a crummy day. I just wanted to stay curled up in bed but that wasn't an option. DS is attending a special needs day camp, he is loving it but the drive is starting to wear on me. It's a good 20min each way and 8 tolls a day.

Well, we picked up DD7 from camp. She of course loved it but looks like she has a disease. Unfortunately I think she inherited my mosquito magnetism, she has 7 on her face alone. She wants to go again next year and wants to do a full week, she's growing up so fast!

Crissup - wow, Carol really lucked out with her watch! DH has wanted to put our camera and/or video camera in our checked bag and I ALWAYS say "No Way!" I'm not even taking the chance that it would get stolen.

mac - so sorry about DSs watch.
*I'm in total agreement with you on the whole Michael Jackson thing. Yes, he had an amazing talent but he was a total nut case. I might be in the minority but I thought it was in poor taste to put his daughter up there on that microphone like that, especially since he was SO protective of them. Ugh, hopefully the coverage will die down now but it is doubtful since there's still so much controversy about his death and burial.
**:guilty: have to confess the diet isn't going spectacularly here, only about 4 lbs lost. Although DH has lost 40 lbs, does that count?

disneygal - thanks for the museum review. My kids aren't huge HP fans but I think it would be neat to check out. How were the crowds?

slo - you are so lucky to have such great neighbors. While mine aren't bad I wish it was like my block growing up where everyone knew everyone.
*Glad to hear business is busy, I know it's hard working all the extra hours but the alternative isn't good.

Took - best of luck with the O'Hare lost and found. I have no experience with them to share.
*That's cool about the Matt Damon film, it's fun when you can make a connection with a film like that. My oldest bro was a submarine commander in the Navy and they used his submarine in part of Hunt For Red October, he got to go to the red carpet premiere which was cool.

KimRaye - Welcome Back! How was Montana?

Bunchkin - glad to hear your MILs test came back negative. Best of luck with your visiting SIL.

Well, one load of DDs camp laundry is done so need to get it in the dryer. Hope everyone has a great night!! :flower3:

It's 2:50am here and I've been dealing with a Trojan virus all day practically. I think I finally got rid of it.....and a bunch of other crap on our computer.:headache: Fun, fun, fun, fun, fun!!!

If I'm not on later today it's because I'm dead......tired that is!!!
DH gets up in an hour, I hope he manages to do this on his own as I don't think I'll be responsive!!!

Looks like one of the Trojans came from the kid's online Disney Pirates game. THANK YOU DISNEY!!!!

:surfweb:
I could have slept so much longer today, but I have to get to work early, so it's not an option.

geffric - I hope the boys had a good time at GA and weren't to cold - Brrr......:cold:
**Nevermind, I just saw they didn't go.

DG - I'm glad you enjoyed the HP exhibit:)

Mac - That's terrible about your sons watch :guilty:

Crissup - Kevin carries a very LARGE pocketknife on him (expensive too), and he forgot about it too right after 9/11, and we were standing in line at the first checkpoint (Midway) when he realized it was in his pocket. He waved down an airport security officer and explained that he's a firefighter and asked the security officer to put it in their office, and he'll get it when he returns home. The security officer said he would, he took Kevin's info, and walked away. When we returned home, we forgot to get it (the hussle and bussle of coming home w/ a crabby 4yr old) and Kevin never tried to get it. I often wonder if they truly kept it for him, or if they would just play dumb about it, because someone took it - it was a nice knife!!!!

ID - Katie attracts mosquitoes just like your DD. Her mosquito bites get so big, and even leave what looks like a bruise - it's crazy!!!! Im glad your DD liked camp and would like to return.

Bunchkin - I hope your computer problems are gone :wizard:

Well, I've been on here to long and I gotta get going
Have a good day!!!

Good Thursday Morning Chicagoland Homies.

closer to the weekend!!

slo: since security didn't call Kevin to come pick up the pocket knife, you know someone snatched it.

bunchie: i haven't had a virus before, but i will go on record that I hate computer viruses.
it keeps my homie friends unable to contact me.
sending :wizard: to help fix it for you

Good Morning Everyone! :flower3: I really didn't want to get up this morning. My allergies are just terrible right now for some reason. I have this awful sinus headache that just won't go away... :sad2:

ID~the crowds weren't bad at all. you have to purchase tickets for a specific time to enter the exhibit. we bought ours the day before and our entrance time was 10:08am. The museum opens at 9:30 so we went and saw a few things first. It was nice!

Geffric ~ I guess I'll stick to o'hare. milwaukee is a little too far from where I'm at

Bunchy ~ viruses are a pain in the rear end. :wizard: hope it stays away!

everyone else :wave2: have a nice day!

Morning everyone. Hope you all survived the Big Chill.:laughing:But seriously, I really just want summer to stay here!!! I don't get the big idea of 80s one day 60s the next. Someone is really messing with me.:rotfl:It's JULY for Pete sake.

Bunchkin, hope you were able to fix your computer up right so you can stick with us. Glad to know your MIL was OK. Scarey mistake.

Slo, it is great to hear that you are so busy right now!! It's nice to know that even in this economy, you are doing OK.:flower3:

Took, I am looking forward to Public Enemies. I love looking for familiar things in the movies that film in our area. Our church was used in Road to Perdition. We sat across the street freezing in March weather to watch Tom Hanks walk in and out of the doors and pull up to the church in old cars.

Mac, we will be journeying up to Great America this year with the kids reading passes. I will be sure to let you know when. It will have to be before Aug. 8 as that is when the passes expire. Mine are still too short to ride the big rides, so I refuse to pay for passes for all of us.:rolleyes1

DG, sounds like you had a really great time at the museum. We were never big HP fans here either. The kids were too little when it started and I think it freaked them out a little and then they just never got into the other ones as they got older.

ID, glad your DD enjoyed camp. My DS is a mosquito magnet as well. Another reason for me to dread going camping. Has anyone ever tried those mosquito patches? I was wondering if they really worked. They claim to last 24-36 hours. It would be nice. I hate bug spray. But I hate the itchy bumps worse.

I think I may have one of my friends to join me on the WDW trip. I just heard the airlines were having a fare war. So I checked in on it last night, not so cheap to Orlando in Oct.:rolleyes1 Unless I want to risk Air Trans.

Today I have to do some grocery shopping and hit Target one last time before we head out on the big camping trip. I am still not looking too forward to this. I hope all goes well there.
I would also like to get some housekeeping done here and start packing. Guess I had best get moving.
Later all.

Hi all!!

It looks as though the virus is gone. Ran many apps last night to make sure. Cleaned my registry with something I found at Kim Komando's site. If you've never heard of her check her out. No infections detected.

DH has left a knife in his pocket at the airport and a lighter too.
He has also put his lighter in his checked bag and when we arrived at WDW a note was in the bag saying it was confiscated! At least that was all they took.

Tigg Did I miss something? What camping trip? Where are you all going?

mac Sorry to hear your son's watch was taken.

slo Sounds like you have great neighbors!!
I'm so glad to hear that you have had a lot of business come in!!! Maybe you can Kevin to come in a help you a bit when he's free.

disneygal Glad you had a good time at the exhibit! I wish we could have seen it before we moved but things got way too busy.

Well, I have a ton to do. Shopping, cleaning and packing.

Hi gang! Just popping in for a moment to say 'hi".

I had a cork screw confiscated from my carry-on at Midway last year. I had carried it my make-up case for years. I didnt' even think! But, now what to do when I need some wine while vacationing?

Getting together with some college girlfriends for lunch tomorrow. We are dining at the President's House at the college we attended. I haven't seen some of these gals for 22 years (gasp!). I am looking forward to it.

Lori

 ALL!!

Yes, I'm back from Montana. BEAUTIFUL State, and I've seen the beauty and flatlands as well. It's a LOONNNGGG drive in the flatlands (kinda like Wisconsin but double or triple it :rotfl: ) Anyway, it was a great week for Kelly and her Aunt (they share their BD) and Glacier NP was awesome, as before but, it was kinda hard spending the week seeing what MS has done to my DSIL. She is wheel-chair bound and only has use of her right hand and, that gets shaky when she's tired. :sad1: She was a trooper tho, thru it all! Hard to believe, I admit! We spent the 4th at a party at their house, which I guess I hostessed? :confused3 Someone brought 2-10lb prime rib roasts tho for grilling! WOW, that was the BEST bbq I ever had! :thumbsup2

ANyway, I'm working on Disney trip in Oct now. Can't get CM at a decent hour! I HAVE 2 ADRs but they will both make us mish Wishes and most of MNSSHP on the 6th. What to do? :headache:

:grouphug: to all!!!

Good Morning Chicagoland Homies.

Looks like we beat Slo here today.

It's Friday, she can come in late....

KimRaye, pencil geffric and myself into your busy motherland schedule somehow. even if it is for a 5 minute, hi and bye session.

what adr's did you get?

Morning all. Today is packing/house cleaning day. Ugghhh!
Bunchkin, DH has wanted to go river rafting for some time, so I found a place at the New River in West Virginia that has this and other activities for the kids to do, so we are camping it for a few days. Needless to say, seeing as I am very used to the creature comforts of electricity and working plumbing:snooty:, I am not overly excited!:laughing:But I will buck up and try to make it as enjoyable as I possibly can.

Booked my airfare today for my trip to the World in October!!!!:banana:Used leftover credits from our vacation last April so it wasn't money coming out of my pocket or going on the CC. That makes it even better. Not sure if it is solo or with friends, but I decided, either way, I am going!:rolleyes1

KimRaye, sounds like you had a nice vacation! Sorry to hear your DSIL is not doing so well. How long has she had MS. I know a lady I worked with that had it. She would have good weeks and bad ones depending on the seasons. It is so hard to see people we know as young and vibrant have stuff like this happen.

Mac, I guess I will have to plan for the girls' trip for 2010. Remind me as it gets closer.

Well, I best get a move on. Gonna put on some park music and make the best of the day. Have a good one everyone.:flower3:
