Calling all Chicago DISers #3

Good Morning all.

Yesterday was my long drive to go get Carolyn from U of I music camp (ISYM). She had a blast! She wants to do music theatre one next year, we shall see how that goes as they only take 35 kids & you have to send in an audition DVD.

Happy Father's day to all the dad's out there.

Yesterday was DH's birthday, so he's out of luck for Father's day this year. :rotfl:

Reading about Portillo's made me laugh. We are hosting a surprise birthday party there for my mom next month. I didn't even realized they have a room to do private parties. I know not all of them have the rooms but the ones out here in the far west suburbs do. It looks like they will do it up well (put out a buffet with table skirted tables & all!). I never gave it a thought that Portillo's is a Chicago thing until since my sister is coming in from CT and as we were talking about different places...as soon as Portillo's was mentioned, she basically bounced on me for YES, YES, we should go there. :woohoo:

Happy Father's Day to all the Dad, and Grandpas too! :flower3:

We are planning to go see the movie UP this morning and then later grill ribs.
Also need to go pick up some corn on the cob at the store. Yum! Love it on the grill!

Speaking of humidity...........ours right now is only 17% and it's 75 degrees and going up to 95. I appreaciate the lack of humidity but being closer to the sun, because of the elevation, is a scorcher!!!! :beach::sunny:

Hersey I've done the same thing....hold out on putting the air on and as soon as I start doing house work and sweating the air comes right on!

geffric That was a lot of movie watchin'. popcorn:::3dglasses

Kim Wow!...I can't believe there is someone else out there that doesn't love AK!! I am not a fan either. :sad2: We've skipped it the past 2 trips. But I did say to the family that we will go there next time just so the roller coaster fanatics can ride Everest. And now that Hunter's bigger he can ride the River Rapids. So I'll be giving in eventually to going back there.

Tiggerrn Lauren really misses being in IL. In fact, last night while I was kissing her good night, she told me that she doesn't want to finish unpacking her room. I think she's under the impression that if she doesn't unpack then she's really not living here. :(

Family is all still asleep here and it's 8:39am. Sleepy heads!!

Have a great day all! :goodvibes

WOW do I know how to clear out a room or what :rotfl2:

:lmao:

I've had the A/C on for like months! :rotfl2: I don't have it set really low or anything. I keep it on 76, and if I get a little warm then I put it down to 75. But I don't like to open my windows, so I use the a/c. But if I get cold, then I put the heat on until it gets back up to 75/76. :rotfl: I love having my own house where I control the temperature!

Tonight my parents and I are going to Carrabba's for dinner for Father's Day. We always go out on Sunday, but Father's Day just means that my dad got to pick where. :lmao: I'm doing Weight Watcher's, so I'm planning to get Chicken Marsala instead of some kind of pasta. I think it'll have to be better.

I bought my plane tickets for my DL trip. I'm going out there on Aug. 13 and returning Aug. 19. I think for the first couple of days I'm going to go look for celebs homes and stuff and do the backlot tour at Universal. Then after the Disney Studios tour on Saturday, at some point my friend and I will go out to Anaheim and then we'll do DL for the rest of the time. But she's been out of the country so I haven't gotten a chance to plan everything with her yet. And we have another friend out there that we need to talk to see if we can meet up with her. I'm excited; I LOVE DL! I'm so excited to see the Electrical Parade again, and Dumbo flies in their new summer fireworks show, and they've added stuff to Fantasmic, although I think their dragon is broken or something. :lmao: And their Space Mountain is awesome! :woohoo:

Hi guys!! Happy Father's Day to all the Dads and Grandpas out there!

Well, we got back last night. :sad1: I agree with Paint, it was a scorcher. Yesterday as we were driving to MCO the car was reading 100! Every day was 95+ and humid. There were no real short afternoon showers, just longer heavy thunderstorms. We had a great time, worked in a good amount of down time and enjoyed 2 new resorts, Kidani and THV. DH says it's our last vaca during summer though as the heat is too much.

Welcome to all our new posters! Hope all our visitors enjoy our city!

Bunchkin - glad you're settling in out in Vegas. Sorry your MIL can't do the chemo, I've never heard of anyone being allergic.

slo - glad the garage sale brought in $$. Hope you get to use the pool soon although I've had enough hot weather for a while, lol.

Leigh - congrats on getting into the tour. Someday I want to take my kids to DL.

esbrick - glad you survived the up close and personal time with the ex!

paint - glad you guys had a great time too! Can't wait to hear about your trip.

Hope all you October trippers have a great time!

:wave2: to geffric, Hersey, mac, Becky, Kim, Tiggerrn, piglet and all our other Chicago homies.

Well, have to run. I've unpacked but need to sort the laundry and get DSs stuff ready for camp (he starts tomorrow).

We went and saw UP!
Missed most of the Pixar short preceeding the movie though! Drat!!!
The movie was really good! We really liked it! Sad at times and funny.
Movies out here are NOT cheap! And don't get me started on drinks! We usually smuggle in bottle water. At the theatre it was $3.75 or $4.50 for 2 different size bottles. FOR WATER!!! Needless to say we bought nothing!!

I hope you all had a good weekend!!!!!:cool1:
Sorry I didn't check in this weekend.
Saturday I had computer problems (my computer gets disconnected from the internet, and I don't know how to reconnect it down in Kevin's office), and I decided that on Sundays I'm going to read the paper outside while Sophie stretches her legs for awhile.

Happy Father's Day to all our dads out there!!!!
I hope you had a good day yesterday!!!!
We celebrated by having our family over, so that was nice!!!

Happy Summer!!!!! :sunny:
I"m so glad it's finally here!!!! :cool1:
The girls were able to go in the pool both days this past weekend, and they were very very happy!!! I look forward to when I can go into the pool too, but I don't forsee that happening for a very long time :guilty:

FLA - I don't think AG charges to borrow the dolls, but I could be wrong.

piglet - Our air is on too ::yes:: It was very sticky in the house.

paint - Welcome home!!!!! :) One of my DIS friends, who lives in Florida, has been saying on Facebook how hot it is right now. I'm sorry it was so hot when you were there, but I'm glad you still had a good time!!!

geffric - :wave2:

Bunchkin - I"m so glad the kids are adjusting well - that's great news!!!!:)
**104 degrees  I would probably love it, because I love hot weather!!
**I'm glad you liked UP. The girls really want to see it, but I thought to wait until it came out on DVD, but now reading all the good reviews about it, I'm starting to think we should go. I have about 293 points/$$ on my Disney Visa that I'm using for movies, but I want to see Night at the Museum and I really want to see Public Enemies - I'll have to think about what I want to do :scratchin

esbrick - :wave2:

Rachael - I've never had a superdawg  Where in Chicago are they?

TTTTTTigern - Were you able to get to your SIL's this weekend and swim?

Kim - :wave2:

HERSEY - We have alot of standing water in our backyard too, and Sophie doesn't like it either. She looks at me, like she's saying, "you actually want me to go in that grass:scared:" She's not an outside girl :sad2:

Becky - I"m glad Carolyn had a good time at camp:). Stephanie leaves for a 5 day camp a week from today, and she's really looking forward to it. I'm still wondering how I'm going to be with her not being here for 5 days - it'll be weird!!!

Leigh - Sounds like you have a nice trip coming up:cool1:

ID - Welcome home!!! :) I"m glad you had a good time on your trip!!!:cool1:

Well, I best get going and get ready for work
Have a great day today everyone!!!

Morning all.
Hope everyone had a nice Father's Day weekend. We enjoyed ourselves here. Went to church in the morning, followed by breakfast at our favorite breakfast rest. in town, then went to see Star Trek. DH has been wanting to see this forever. I thought it was great. But it did help to know how the characters flesh out from TV series. It was fun to see how they give them their start. It was a little scarey for DS. He did not care for the Romulan stuff at all.

Slo, Sis-inLaws pool was not ready yet.:sad1:But we decided to join the aquatic center in the town just to our north. About a 7 min drive from home and they have 4 pools-1 adults only, 1 giant slide, a 9 and under that is only up to 3.5 feet deep with water spouts and small slides, and then the family pool with a small section that used to have diving boards but due to liability now has drop slides and a climbing wall. DD loves this area. The kids had a blast. I think this will prove to be a great decision. I will be forced to enjoy a bit of my summer as well by the pool (instead of staying in doing laundry and cleaning while the kids play in the small pool or sprinkler).

ID, can't wait to hear about your trip. One of my co-workers was at the GF for the week you were there as well. She was also saying how hot it was and they got caught in several showers. Glad it didn't dampen anyone's spirits.

Bunchkin, we loved up too. Kellie said the beginning was so sad. But then everything else just cracked me up. The old man even looks like Ed Asner!

Slo, see up at the theater in 3-D. It will make a huge difference.

Well, I guess I had better go. DD is at drama camp. I have some :laundy:to do and put away and then a little vacuuming. If the sun stays out, we may try to go to the pool for a couple hours. Kids have a library program to go to tonight and DD has ballet this afternoon! I need to find 2 white T-shirts before the library program. They will be painting dragons on their shirts.
Later all.

Good Morning Everyone! :flower3: Wow, i've missed a lot in the recent days. My dad is in the hospital again. He had to have an emergency appendectomy (sp?) on Saturday morning. He's doing well but needs to stay there until tomorrow. :sad2: Also, we make our ADRs tomorrow:cool1: for our trip in September!! Hopefully, we all our first choices. We aren't really picky about timing so that will be helpful. The one I'm most worried we won't get is Le Cellier. We've never been and have heard amazing things about it. If we can't get that then we are going to try for Rose & Crown, which is also new to us. Oh and on the Friday we were thinking of trying the brewery place on the Boardwalk... I don't remember the name of it now. Anyone know if it's on the DDP? I'll go peruse the restaurant board for more info. Ok so now that i've rambled on long enough... Happy Father's Day to all the Daddy's out there!

Tigg ~ Thanks for the review of Star Trek. I've been wanting to take my dad to see it but we just haven't had the time.

Slo ~ glad to hear the girls were able to use the pool. ours is still not open but my sister's is.

Bunchy ~ glad to hear you enjoyed UP! I can't believe how expensive going to the movies is now a days. Even in Orland prices are rediculous.

Leigh ~ i bet it is nice to be able to control your own temp in the house. mike and my dad like it really cold and well, i like it hot! I did need to break down and turn it on Saturday when I came home to gather some things for my dad. Our cover was still on and so... I'm outside staring at this thing that is twice the size of me going... hmmm. let's just try and adjust the thermostat inside after the cover is off. that didn't work. my sister came over and called her hubby. he looked at it and had to reset the breaker. :goodvibes

rachaface ~ Welcome to our thread:cheer2: stop by often!

Everyone else ~ :wave2: hope everyone is doing well. And to all our visitors, hope you enjoy our city!

Good Morning!

Still unpacking here! UGGGHHH!! :headache:

Trying to do some DL planning here. It's hard with so many other things going on. But with our trip 24 days out I guess I need to put in some effort as to how we are spending our days and what park! :)
All I have is one ADR at Ralph Brennan's Jazz Kitchen for Hunter's b-day and it was at his request! This kid has good taste in food AND music! Must take after me!! ;) http://www.rbjazzkitchen.com/
For those been to or going to DL, you must eat here!!!
I think we will not be going to the Blue Bayou this time. I love the atmospere and being part of the POTC ride experience, but the food is.....average in my opinion.
Looking forward to seeing the Electrical parade like Leigh mentioned. And the new fireworks!

slo Sounds like you all had a nice weekend.
What type of camp is Stephanie going to?

irish dancer I don't blame your DH for not wanting to deal with the summer heat and humidity in FL!
Hope everyone enjoys swimming this year. We are thinking of going the local Y which is just down the road. It is HUGE!! I've never seen one so big. I has a large water park outdoors and several indoor pools too. But......it's really pricey! :rolleyes :

disneygal Hope your dad is feeling better and out of the hosp. tomorrow!
My DH had an appendix attack back in 2007 while waiting for our plane to leave California!!!!! He thought he was just having 'attack of the vacation food'. WRONG!!!!

Tiggerrn We didn't see the 3-D version, as it would have cost us $48!!!! We liked the 2-D....and so did my wallet!

Time to tackle the boxes surrounding us!! :upsidedow

Morning all.
ID, can't wait to hear about your trip. One of my co-workers was at the GF for the week you were there as well. She was also saying how hot it was and they got caught in several showers. Glad it didn't dampen anyone's spirits.

ID welcome home glad you had a great time inspite of the weather.. as the kids get older summer is the only choice.. so it will be nice when it is just dh and I and we can go during low season..

Hi to all .. gonna check on the eye doc in town and see if he is in the plan..be back soon

I know, I know, I have been MIA but i brought a note from my mom to excuse my absence here.......:rolleyes1

i had to go out of town unexpectedly and was gone for 10 days.

prior to that had some health issues and didn't do much dis-ing.

i need to ketchup, as geffric would say, and go back and read all the missed pages.

i did notice i missed the send off to bunchie........
i'm sorry i missed that...:sad1:

I think we will not be going to the Blue Bayou this time. I love the atmospere and being part of the POTC ride experience, but the food is.....average in my opinion.

You can go to the one across the "street". French Market or something? I can't remember the name. But it's similar and cheaper. I did Blue Bayou on my first trip, but that's before the prices went up.

It does take an ADR, but I love Taste Pilot in DCA. :thumbsup2

esbrick - :wave2:

Rachael - I've never had a superdawg  Where in Chicago are they?

Slo Hey there! Super Dawg is on Milwaulkee just south of Devon! It is YUMMY! http://www.superdawg.com/

Disneygal OMGoodness! Your poor dad! That sucks! My girlfriend had that a couple of years ago and the surgery was reletively easy, however, the recovery took alot out of her. Lack of energy and such. I'm sending Pixie Dust for a quick recovery! pixiedust: Le Cellier is VERY Yummy! We were there at Christmas time:love: during our honeymoon! Make sure that when you are making your ADR's that you tell them you are there for plannign your wedding. Sometimes you get a litle extra pixie dust and it is wonderful! The Rose & Crown is great and they serve wonderful fish and chips. You can also try Teppan Edu which is fun! Mike and I usually stop and have a drink as we visit the diffent worlds in the showcase. Next time we are there we plan on going to Norway, France and Germany just cause we haven't spent alot of time there.:woohoo:

Quiet weekend! Had a little to much Summertime (beer) fun on Saturday night so i was wrecked on Sunday! I have to keep reminding myself I am no longer the rock star that I once was!:cool2:

I'm gearing up to watch Jon & Kate last night for that inevitable announcement! Interesting to see how they will handle it. I'm also going to drop by a yoga place this eveing to discuss the possiblity of taking yoga in the eveinings. We'll see. Alot depends on cost but i need to do something to increase my flexibility which is NIL!

Have a great day everyone! It looks so pretty out! I'm off to grab some lunch!:)

wow, i can't believe i actually woke up at 430am just to make dining reservations. Thank you for all the get well wishes for my dad. he's supposed to come home today.

Bunchkin ~ good luck with the DL planning. :wizard: I've never been to California so I can't help. Wish I could though.

Mac ~ glad to see you are back! Thanks for the listings. :thumbsup2

Esbrick ~ Thanks for the suggestions. DF and I are going to try a drink from every country this year. (we hope to at least) Last year we only did it at the countries we ate in.

Everyone else ~ :wave2: have a wonderful day!! I'm off to make my ADRs! :goodvibes

I'm stopping in for a quick drive-by this morning :car: before my Leads Group.

TTTTTTiigggern - That's great about joining the public pool :thumbsup2 When I was a kid we were a member of a public pool and I LOVED it!!!! Your kids are going to really enjoy it!!!
**Katie doesn't like 3D movies, so I feel bad seeing things in 3D because she always takes off the glasses, and then she's watching a fuzzy movie. If we go, I probably won't see the 3D:guilty:

DG - I"m so sorry to hear about your dad:guilty:I will keep him in my prayers!!!
**Are the Disney Dining phones opening up at 5:30am (their time) now? The last time I made reservations (ones that I HAD to have - CRT) the phones opened at 7am their time. Did you get what you wanted?

Bunchkin - Stephanie is going to a religious camp in Frankfort. She is going with Jennifers DD and when she went to the open house (I couldn't go, becaue I was working) she said it was absolulty awesome, and the girls are going to have an awesome time:cool1:I'm excited for them, but it's going to be so weird not having her here for 5 days.

Mac - Good to see you - we missed you!!! :grouphug:

esbrick - thanks for the link!!!!:)

Well, I gotta run and get ready to go
Have a good day!!!

Good Morning Everyone! :flower3: I'm more awake now! I talked to my dad, he said other than a terrible headache and being sore still, he's feeling better. He's coming home this morning :cool1:

Slo ~ The online ADR system opens at 6am Florida time so 5am our time. We didn't get Le Cellier but I did get a 630 for Rose & Crown. Maybe we will be able to catch Illuminations from there?

Our ADRs

Monday 9/21 - Biergarten 5:45pm
Tuesday 9/22 - my bday breakfast at Chef Mickey's 7:30am
Wednesday 9/23 - Sci-Fi 3:40pm wish it was a later but I'll keep checking. This was the only time I could get.
Thursday 9/24 - Rose & Crown 6:30pm
Friday 9/25 - Big River Grille and Brewery- 7pm I had to call for this one. I got through right away at 730 our time (I was waiting for the train). The lady was really nice but said I had to call the restaurant directly. I thought this was wierd b/c they're on the DDP. :confused3 Anyway, she gave me the number and I called. The gentleman who answered was also very nice and helpful. Took my name and asked what time we wanted. Then he told me they don't do reservations but they do take call aheads. So when we get there to give them our name and we will be seated as soon as something becomes available.

So yeah, I'm excited to have them all booked! :goodvibes

Good Morning all!

There is construction across the street from me in the next subdivision so I woke up to lots of hammering!!!! Not a pleasant way to greet the morning. :headache:

mac Glad to see you back. Hope all is well with you.

slo I didn't know there was a church in Frankfort that did a sleep-away camp. I hope she has a great time. And it's great Jennifer's DD is going too!! :thumbsup2

disneygal We haven't been able to get Le Cellier for the past few trips of ours!! Where are all those ressies going??
Have you been to SciFi before?
You've got a good time for Chef Mickeys. After that can get really, really, really crazy busy!!!!!

Leigh I am obsessed with POTC, so sitting at the other place wouldn't be the same!
Have you eaten at Cafe Orleans? I don't think we've been there yet. And it looks really cute from the pictures I've seen.

:laundy:
