Calling all Chicago DISers #3

Robbya- I'm a student, too. Studying to teach HS Eng here!
smidgy- I'm also a waitress (high end Italian). Worked Fri. and Sat. night...my feet are tired but tips were good!;)
Donna- Hi! We have a Wii and the only thing I play, so far, is Animal Crossing. It is a esy but addictive game and you can play online with others. Heck, there's a thread here on the Dis!
Slo- I don't know if I could handle the Jonas Bros. movie. I took ds to see Coraline yesterday and it was a big :thumbsup2 . We both loved it! I am looking forward to the Hannah Montana movie, too.DD will love it!
Tig- I have a friend near Griffith. They ended up with lots of snow! Speaking of dumb games, though, BIL has a game called Pain where you launch people (using a giant slingshot) at designated targets in a city. It's cartoony and not bloody, but I still don't get it!:confused3
J and C- Happy Anniversary!
Hersey- Like others on this thread, I am so tired of the snow. If my mom said she'd moved to FL with us, I'd go. She's about the only person I'd miss, especially for the sake of my kids, if I moved to FL.

Worked Fri. and Sat. night and waited on the owner of all (22) of the restaurants! He and his family couldn't have been nicer but I was seriously sweating! It went well but I was freaking out on the inside! Of course, they left a lovely tip! I spent Sun. finishing up laundry and working on and stressing about homeowrk. I finally took a break to take ds to see Coraline (I was afraid it would be too scary to dd but she would've been fine). It was excellent. I really like it! We then took dh and dd with us to dinner. I ran into a girl who got fired from the place I work. Awkward! It is a local bbq place. Great food but a step down. Oh well. Then we went to Coldstone. Needless to say I should go to the gym today!:rotfl2:
Better get going. Kiddos have ISATs this week.

Carol and I are heading for Vegas this coming week for a Checkpoint conference I'm going to. We're staying two extra days so we can celebrate our 5 year anniversary. We got married in Vegas on April 11th, 2004.

have fun in Vegas.. where are you staying? Do you plan on seeing some shows?? Congrats on the Anniversary

robbya and donna (or anyone else in the area), come see me where I waitress, fri and sat nights and sundays till 8. Wine and roses. It's a steak house on rt. 31 on the south end of Algonquin. we have fri fish fry and prime rib or duck special on sat and sun. great steaks and a $10 value menu anytime. and free pool tables!
I am hating this cold weather and SO ready for spring!!!

I hate SNOW!!! I am with you on the spring stuff.. i will put the resturant on the list.. once I am employed again.. we can go..

Most people just have no clue how there is down there to do. I just had the conversation with a guy two weeks ago. He's a grandfather and they've been hitting Disney every year for the past ten years, so he figured they'd done it all and seen it all. As I started to point out many of the lesser known things to do down there, he started to realize that they had just been scratching the surface for the past ten years. The Sandtrap Grill with it's beautiful views overlooking the golf course and free Wi-Fi. The All Star Cafe for a nice lunch with out a lot of crowds, the mini golf, the water parks, all the various resorts, etc, etc. I agree, we could spend an entire week down there and never walk into a theme park.

that is so true..

Morning all.. today is cleaning and baking.. I did turkey last week and have some home made cranberry sauce left over so I am going to make bread with it..

Good Monday Mourning Chicagoland homies.........

Snow on the ground and school in session.
What a way to start the week............
I think it is going to go down hill from here.......

MAC... yes, we still LOVE universal, just haven't gotten there lately. would love to, just hate to go unless we can stay onsite, and it's still pretty pricey for us. but thanks for making me feel welcome onthose boards!!!

smidgy, I love both places.
I started going to the motherland in 1974.
Since 1992, I have gone annually to disney.

Also that same year, started doing the darkside.
At first we would drive up from disney, the next few years we would stay near UO and when the hotels were up and doing great deals, we started to stay onsite.
I can remember when royal pacific hotel was $89 a night.

I go in late september, early october each year.
I hit MNSSHP and Food & Wine events at the motherland and then HHN over at the darkside.

I can't imagine going to Orlando and not doing both parks.

We really want everyone to feel at home on this thread.
It's fun to get to know each other and become friends in a box!

I'm glad you are with us.... :goodvibes

Wow I sure did miss alot this weekend! Went to Iowa again. It was nice and relaxing. Just sat around and watched Ace of Cakes and Mythbusters with Mike!

Well, hi ho, hi ho, it's back to work I go!!! just wanted to stop by and say hello, hi ho hi ho hi ho! :wave2:

oh and Welcome to thread Robbya and Smidgy! Glad to have you join us! :goodvibes

Hi gang! Well, it's back to work after a nice relaxing weekend! I hardly did any cleaning, did some laundry, ran some errands and took a nap! DS went curling with our church youth group yesterday. They went to a Curling Club near Starved Rock. He really liked it!

Welome new friends! Visit us oftern!

Slo - sorry to hear about firing your employee! Maybe your next one will be the best employee ever!

Tiggern - I see from your ticker that we go on vacation at the exact same time! I have never been to Disneyland but will someday!

Geffric - Bread made from leftover cranberry sauce? Thats sounds yummy!

Speaking of yummy - I made Slo's Stew last night. I did it just a tad different than Slo - I put a round steak in the crock pot, used her recipe of c of m soup, onion soup mix, mushrooms and water, cooked for 10 hours. After it was done cooking, I mixed it up and broke up the meat, cooked some egg noodles, dumped them in the crock pot and stirred! Yummo Beef and Noodles!

Paint - Way to go on serving the big boss! He better leave a big tip!

ID - Congrats to dd on her perfect flute score! She must have been so proud!

Happy Anniversary to our Anniversary Couple! Enjoy your time in Vegas!

Hi to everyone else!
Lori

:surfweb:

Crissup - I agree with you about all the non-park activities there is to do. I have not done many of these things, because with 2 little girls, they want to do the parks, and I can't blame them. I look forward to when the girls are older, so we can start doing many of these activities. I hope The DIS is still around then, so I can have you guide me on what's good to do :)

paint - I would have been so nervous too. I"m glad that everything went well:)

geffric - How did your bread turn out - it's sounds yummy!!!!:goodvibes

Mac - :wave2:

DG - I"m glad you had a good weekend in Iowa:)

momto1 - Your version of the stew sounds really good:goodvibes I love the idea of putting the noodles into the strew - I will try that sometime :thumbsup2

Well, I'm off and running - have a great day everyone!!!

Morning all.
I am a bit under the weather today. Sore throat and body aches-even my hair hurts. I am just glad I made it through work yesterday and do not have to return until the weekend. We have to use PTO time whether for vacation or calling off sick. Nothing makes me madder than giving up good Disney vacation hours for a few body aches.
I agree with everyone how much stuff there is to do. Especially during holiday seasons. In 2004, the kids had a blast at AKL. They had pumpkin carving competitions, made Smores decorations and halloween bags. At BC there is, of course, the most awesome pool around. The kids always love the pool. They have great games for the kids. Just walking around the Boardwalk area is a night in itself. I have always wanted to spend time there just resort hopping. Maybe someday.
Momto1, yes we are. Too bad we are going the opposite way.
Well all, I think I am going to go back to bed. Didn't sleep well last night and really need a nap.
Later

Good Tuesday Mourning Chicagoland Homies. :goodvibes

Tiiigggggeeeeerrrrrrnnnnnnnn:  feel better real soon homie.

Nothing new on the job front.. so maybe I'll be a pet sitter/errand runner/organizer. what do you think? Think I can make some $$$?

Hi guys! Just a quick drive by....DH is in Vegas until Thursday so I'm flying solo, glad I don't have to do this all the time! DS is having ISATs so no homework this week - thank goodness! DD7 is going to gymnastics today and DD11 had a Girl Scout outing (ice skating at the YMCA).

Thanks for the congrats for DD11, she was still wearing her medal yesterday, I think it has become her prized possession. ;)

geffric - good luck on the job front, it is tough out there.

Tiggerrn - hope you feel better soon! No fun being sick on your day off but I guess it's better than having to take time off for it.

momt01 - I almost forgot, I made Slo's stew last week. Yummo! It was a huge hit here too, even DS8 who is extremely picky. I did use the wine in the recipe and egg noodles but left out the mushrooms as no one but me likes them and it was super yummy.

slo - thanks for the stew recipe, big big hit.

disneygal - glad you had a good time in Iowa, relaxing weekends are so nice.

Robbya - yeah Elmhurst College! Drive by there all the time and used to use their library when I was in high school. DD11 had some track meets there last year too.

Well, I've got to run and get the girls from school and drop off DD11 at her skating outing. Have a great night everyone! :flower3:

Hi gang! I can't believe this day is getting away from me! I am moving offices at work - slowly. I have been in this office for 12 years so I have a lot of cleaning out to do!

ID - Hang in there until DH returns! I flew solo for 2 weeks last year when dh was in Boston for training. I had all sort of intereseting events occur - big snowstorm, a dead possum in our back yard that had to be removed, the stereo and TV system started not working, I got a virus on the computer - and was ready for dh to be home!

Tiggern - I hope you feel better real soon! We have the same PTO situation at work. I count on using my PTO for vacation not being sick!

Crissup - sounds like the Sandtrap Grill might be someplace we need to check out. We haven't eaten at the All Star Cafe but have threatened to on several occasion.

It's going to be warmer this week! Yea!
Lori

mac- HI again! I SO miss royal pacific!! that nice walkway aaround the little lake (but after a while, don't you wish they didn't make you walk ALL the way around that little pond?

slo- sorry to hear the new movie wasn't that good. I havve to admit, I ENJOYED Camp Rock! (I[m such a dork. I made nebo watch High School Musical. even though he thought it was dumb, he DID enjoy the music, cause he likes musicals.
we used to go to Phesant Run when they had musicals. we saaw JC Superstar there 3 times (our fav). 42nd Street, guys and Dolls, Fiddler on the Roof, West Side Story (2nd fav), I think I'm missing one. At Lincolnshire Marriot we have seen west side Story and Footloose .at Lake County college: JC superstar and at Elgin Community college, West side story ; The Importance of Being Earnest (with our son in a bit part), Glass Menagerie(our son was the gentleman caller) and As You Like it, (our son played a court jester. we don't "get" shakesphere. everyone was laughing like crazy and hubby and I were looking at each other, "what's so funny?")

geffric- you must have been SO nervous, waiting on the owner's family!!! but you abviously did well!!! I'll bet we could share some waitress horror stories!!!

Hi all!

Well gang........I'm signing my baby up for kindergarten this morning:sad1:
If I"m not happy about signing her up, what am I going to be like in August when she has to go:sad1: The thought of sending her out the door by 7:30am makes me sad - her and I have our morning routine together. I better stop talking about it before it makes me sadder:sad1:

TTTTTTTTiiggernnn - I"m sorr you don't feel well  I'll send loads of PD your way to feel better soon:wizard:

Mac - :wave2:

geffric - I"m sorry finding a job isn't going well  I will keep you in my thoughts and prayers that you will find a new job soon:wizard:

ID - Stephanie has tests this week too, and she still has homework - she wasn't happy about it :sad2:

momto1 - Good luck with moving into your new office :wizard:

smidgy - I'm not a fan of Camp Rock, but I LOVE the HSM movies. I fell in love with all the characters, and like a goofball, I teared up at the end of the 3rd one - it's sad to think that we won't see those characters again:guilty: But, it couldn't last forever, because that would be weird:laughing:

Well, I gotta run and get ready for work - we need to be at the sign-ups by
8:30am. I"m hoping to get all-day kindergarten, but that goes in a lottery, so there's not guarantee that I will get it. If I can't get that, than I'm praying for morning kindergarten, because I have no idea how I could get Katie to afternoon kindergarten.

Have a good day!!!

Good Mourning Chicagoland Homies............:goodvibes

slo, i can remember taking my littles to sign up for kindergarten.
they were happy and all smiles and i cried...........

my boys never knew what white bread was until they were in school.
the things they learned, oh my..........

geffric, something will come along that has your name on it.
you'll have the perfect job then.
and that job will have you scheduled off work for a time period in october.. :rolleyes1
smidgy, i have seen many productions at lincolnshire mariott.
we loved it there.

Going back to lie down. I'll check back in later.

Hi all!

greetings -

smidgy - i have failed as a waitress.. yep dropped the whole hot plate and stuff on the floor.. I was fired in a few minutes of my join ing.. so I don't do that anymore.. it is simply not my skill set.. paint is the one that waited on the owner etc..

had a call yesterday but was not considered as I did not make enough much $$$. HMM???

SLO - when Eric had his first day of kindergarten I was a bit teary.. but got over it fast.. and when to the store alone for the first time in years

Hi gang! Going to WW weigh-in shortly. Wish me luck! I have been walking almost everyday with co-workers. We do a pretty good clip for 38 minutes or so. Going to work up to 45 minutes.

Thinking I might have to cancel our Illuminations Cruise. I have posted numerous time looking for 5 more cruisers with no luck! Unbelievalbe to me as we had great success in years past. Maybe it is the economy? I am waiting to the 2 week mark to cancel though.

Slo - I honestly can't say I remember registering ds for kindergarten. My bad...But, I cry ever first day of school and he is in 7th grade! I hope you made it through the day OK.

Tiggern - Oh my...I hope you feel better and will be back to good real soon. I have only had strep one time and remember it vividly.

Mac - your one minute greeting to all made me smile! You are too good!

Better go face the fact that I have lot s of weight to lose.
Lori

sorry no time for a full blown post today, tomorrow, or Friday... but just wanted to share that Beauty and the Beast was listed by Entertainment Weekly as the 25 most Romantic movie of the last 25 years! This may be old news but I just saw it on their website today while I was on my lunch :goodvibes

Hope everyone is doing well! I'll post sometime when I'm not consumed in work:rolleyes:
