Calling all Chicago DISers #3

Morning all!
Slo, I will most definately keep your family in my thoughts and prayers. I know how hard this will be for your family since I am going through the same thing with my mom.
At least you don't have the added worry that he is alone right now. We are really trying to convince my mom to move to an assisted living facility. She still has enough of her own mind to want to stay in her house. She also is caring for an old cat that needs shots for his diabetes. We are sort of waiting until she no longer has the cat before insisting she move. She loves her kitty. At least she doesn't feel the need to leave home in the winter, and we make sure she has her groceries and banking needs met, but it is getting harder. It is hard for my kids to understand that they can't just go spend the day with Grandma. Especially for DD. She used to spend hours with my mom every week just sewing, talking, and doing nothing. I am just afraid to leave her there with my mom alone. She gets very short-tempered easily now, and her ability to do anything that requires short-term memory is not good. To me, this is the worst way to spend your retirement years. I would rather drop dead of a heart attack than slowly lose my mind. :sad1:
Paint, I sure hope you don't have to pay another plumber again. Hopefully, the other one will step up and admit they didn't fix it right the first time.
bookswin, I do believe I have seen that Camry before, but it is not me (unfortunately). DH is a Disney Scrooge McDuck! So we will never own DVC in his lifetime.
Well, I had better get to vacuuming. I need to get that done and then get to the stores today. The fridge/freezer is so bare, I could clean it top to bottom without needing to empty it much first.:scared1:
Later all.

Good Morning Everyone! :flower3: So the team I'm on have scheduled a fundraiser to raise money for the Avon Walk for Breast Cancer. We will be hosting BOWLING FOR BREAST CANCER! It will be held on Friday May 8, 2009 at Centenniel Lanes in Tinley Park. For more information, please PM and I would be more than happy to share! :goodvibes

Slo ~ I will most definitely keep your family in my thoughts and prayers.

Paint ~ good luck with the plumbing! :wizard: Glad to hear your sister had a fun bday!

Everyone else ~ :wave2: have a good day!

Paint ~ I'll keep my fingers crossed for you. It will be a lot easier if the other company is responsible.

Slo ~ Alzheimer's is something I dread.

Our new washer came yesterday, so I am finally able to wash clothes again. (at home, I am sick of the laundrymat) We had to replace the dryer a couple of summers ago, and then the washer started acting up in November. I am thankful we got a tax return, seeing as it paid for it.

I am coming to you today to ask for your prayers.
I have commented in the past about my dad's memory and mental problems, and my mom got the final dianosis yesterday that he has advanced stages of Alzheimers:sad1: Please keep my dad in your prayers, but please please please especially keep my mom in your prayers - she has such a long dark road ahead of her. My dad still feels there's nothing wrong with him, so he's not suffering, but my mom sure is - he is not easy to live with at all. There are so many things that she loves, that she isn't and won't be able to do:guilty: I feel so sad for her. I had to explain to Stephanie yesterday about this, and explain to her that someday he won't remember her, and explain to her that it doesn't mean he doesn't love her, but it's the disease - she was sad:sad1: Alzheimers is so ugly - you die with no dignity:sad2: So sad!!!!:sad1:
they are on my prayer list and will stay on my list.

Well, it was good and bead news from the plumber...it is a pipe that runs from the upstairs bathroom down into the basement. We had it repaired a year ago (by a different company) and the people who came out think it is leaking from a coupling, so it might be the responsibility of the previous company.
My sister survived her 21st last weekend. She got sick!

plumber issues sux big time.
hope it turns out for the best for you.

so sis can't hold a candle to the pros, eh..........

glad you had the sweets.
geffric and i have the pig with us..

Well, I had better get to vacuuming. I need to get that done and then get to the stores today. The fridge/freezer is so bare, I could clean it top to bottom without needing to empty it much first.:scared1:
Later all.

when you are done cleaning, and with the grocery shopping, can you swing by my dump to help out?:rolleyes1

I wish you success in the fundraisers. We need more people like you that give of their time.

I'll be by at 2 today with my clothes..........:goodvibes
I have never met a person that was so thrilled with doing :laundy:

and a very good wednesday mourning to all chicagoland homies...

LOL MAC - you always see the bright side..:thumbsup2

SLO and Tiggerrn2 .. i will keep you both on the prayer list.. it is a long dark road and a difficult one for all involved.. :grouphug:

Piglet - Alzheimer's is something I dread too..

Hi gang! Thanks for all your comments on your kids experiences with contacts. DS is doing OK. He is having a hard time getting them in and out but is getting better.

My paczki is waiting for me. I wasn't at work yesterday and a co-worker always buys packzi for Fat Tuesday. Another co-worker save me one and I will eat it after WW weigh-in this afternoon.

IHOP pancakes were a hit with ds. The place wasn't as busy as I expected thought. After IHOP we went to the mall - me to walk to exercise, him to look at girls! I am so not ready for this!

Slo and Tigger - I will keep both of your families in my prayers. This dreaded disease is not something I have experienced first hand and hope not to.

DG - Good luck on your bowling event! We just did one for ds baseball team and raised nearly $3000 from bowling, silent auctions and a raffle. You have asked about Expedition Everest - it is a 5K though Animal Kingdom, followed by an obstacle course and then a scavenger hunt back through Animal Kingdom. It is considered an Endurance Event (which is a joke that I am consdiering doing this!). DH and DS did it last year. The 5K went well, ds did the obstacle course, dh walked around it, ds had a hard time doing the scavenger hunt alone but race volunteers were very helpful. Following the event, there was a party in Animal Kingdom and you could ride some the rides. The event occurs after the park is closed. This year the race is on September 26th. I would love for you to walk with me if you can!

Paint -GRRR on plumbing issues. Good luck getting everything resolved.

Piglet - we got a new washer in January after ours died a sudden death. It is hard getting used to the new noises this machine makes!

Better get back to work.
Lori

all this talk of paczki's and I've never had one ever. Maybe one year I'll try one out.

Slo:hug: I am sorry your parent and your family are going through this. A great aunt of mine her husband had Alzheimers it is a horrible disease. Talk to your mom about respite care. They can give her a chance to have time to do things for herself.

Paint Hopefully some else will pay for that bill.:thumbsup2

I got my car back last night. Boy i missed my car not having for a couple of days. It started giving me trouble on the way to work on monday good thing I only have a 10-15 minutes drive and great friends. It turned out to be the intake manifold. If anyone needs a great garage for repairs let me know they are great. Unfortunetly they are in the Nw suburbs.

Well I better get in the shower. I would rather jump back in bed instead. I feel like I didn't get enough sleep.

Thank you so much for kind posts about my parents:grouphug:
This is going to be a long road, and I have a feeling you will hear me talking about this alot. I'm so grateful that I have you all to talk to!!!!:grouphug:

Do you all have your umbrellas ready :umbrella:
It's going to be a very rainy day today, which means I will be very slow at work. I have some things to get caught up on, so that's a good thing, but I would like new business too.

paint - I hope you are able to get everything fixed with the plumber :wizard: I hate plumbing problems!!!

TTTTTTTTTTTTTTiggggggernn - We'll be going through this Alzheimers disease together  I forgot that your mom was diagnosed with Alzheimers. Does she know she has a problem? Does she take mediciane well? My dad strongly believes that he is JUST FINE :sad2: and the doctor said that this is all part of the disease. He also doesn't like to take mediciane, but thank goodness, my mom was able to put the mediciane patch on him yesterday - I hope it helps.

DG - Good luck with your fundraiser!!!:wizard:

piglet - Enjoy your new washer. What type did you get?

Mac and geffric - :wave2:

momto1 - I"m glad you had a nice breakfast with your DS :goodvibes
**How was your paczki? I haven't had one in years - they're yummy!!!!:goodvibes

HERSEY - I agree about the respite care ::yes:: I'm sure she'll be looking into this as things progress, because I can't go to her house during the day for her to run errands. She is still able to leave him for short periods of time, but that won't last to much longer :sad2: He's been getting worse so fast all of a sudden :guilty:

Well, I gotta run and get Stephanie out of bed, and get her lunch made.
Have a great day everyone and thanks again - I love you all!!!!!

Tig- We are trying to get my Gpa into assissted living. He is still very sharp at 91 and can get around okay. We just don't like him all alone. He has a helper from 4-9, M-F. She makes him food and does laundry and cleans. We just want him to go where he can be social. He loves visiting and chatting. He's just not "ready" yet to give up his home.
momto- DS looking at girls....I can hardly wait! Ds already was sent a candy cane from a girl at Xmas through a student counsel fundraiser. When I did his VDay party I got to hear the gossip on who likes him, too. I am in trouble-blonde, blue eyed, and funny! EE Challenge- Love to do it, but I wish I had someone to train with. I exercise regularly, but I really hate running! I could probably do a 5K right now, but it would kill me! I usually do 30-45 minutes on the elliptical and some abs and arms. I try to go 4-5 times per week.
hersey- Mmm...paczki...I don't know how that spelling produces the pronounciation, but you need to have one! My mom says the best ones are from Weber's bakery, wherever that is!
slo- I think giving up the radio in the car is great. It's one of those little things you don't think about but miss when it is gone. I had to get a new battery and my car radio reset. I needed to find the code so it would turn on, but I kept forgetting. It was really weird to ride in silent. It will be nice, though, for you and your girls. More conversation!
piglet- Glad you got the washer problem solved. What a pain! You should do like Mac does with the ink cartridges...buy two at a time, that way you'll be prepared! JK!

Funny story...I was doing observations at the high school (for one of my curriculum and instruction classes). Anyway, there were some girls in there from a child growth and development class. They were looking over their observation forms and one asked the other, "So, we need to comment on their bodies, right? Like height, weight...hey, what's the "trunk" of the body? That's the butt? We have to comment on theirs butts?" I couldn't help myself...I "butted" in and corrected them!:rotfl2:
Blah. I hate rainy days, especially when I have to walk all over campus! I also have to do a quick paper this morning. I was going to do it last night, but ds wanted to snuggle. I fell asleep! Needless to say, I should get going! Later!

good thursday morning chicagoland homies.......:goodvibes

paint, what an excellent idea !!!!

piglet should have bought two washers.
then we all could go there.:thumbsup2

think she would do drop off service for the homies?

oh dear, what if it is self service and she has the quarter slots installed on the machines......

Good Morning Everyone! :flower3:

Piglet ~ enjoy your new washer!

Momto1 ~ Thanks for the info on the EE 5K! I would have totally done it (especially b/c we were possibly going in Sept for our planning session) but unfortunately, Sept. 26 is Opening Night here and well... I have to attend. :sad2: Maybe next year.

Hersey ~ glad your car is feeling better!

Slo ~ I was getting ready to leave the house this morning, umbrella all ready to go. I get on the train and realize I left the umbrella by the front door! :scared1: Good thing my peacoat has a hood!

Paint ~ good luck with your paper :wizard:

Everyone else ~ :wave2: have a good day!

Hi gang! I am armed and ready with the umbrella!

Mac - i heard your way might be getting snow instead of rain. Have you heard that rumor? I think if Piglet installs the quarter maching on her new washer, we might all just be helping her pay for her next trip to Disney!

Slo - Hope you will find new business today. Mabye people will do their errands before the rain and not after.

Hersey - I so don't like car problems. Glad you have yours back!

DG - Opening night vs the 5K? OK...I see who wins! What is the performance?

Paint - too funny about your "butting in" story! Good luck on your paper.

Hi to everyone and have a great day!
Lori

Hey everyone! Gloomy day. At least it wasn't too cold. I managed to get pup out for a walk before the drops started. I had to go to kids' school this morning to do some copies for cookie day next week. (Mac, pray for me-the diet may need the pig) Hard to resist Otis Spunkmeyer cookies warm from the oven-love the Oatmeal Raisin ones. But you all should see the tables when we take up the parchment paper.:scared1: Loaded with grease!
After doing the cookies, I stopped in the cafe and the kids were having a pep rally for ISAT testing coming up. They were doing a little Smarter than a 5th Grader game against the teachers. Nice to know that I knew all the answers.
Slo, hope you get some work done today. They didn't say Altzheimer's for my mom. They said she has dementia caused from little strokes she has unknowingly had for several years. Causes the same type of effects though. The short term memory losses that advance over time. She is currently taking Aricept, but I can't say it is doing anything. Although, I don't know how bad her memory would be without it. What kind of patch is your dad using? And no, she doesn't think anything is wrong with her, and puts up a huge fuss every time she has to go see a dr. Her primary dr wants her to return to the dr. that diagnosed the dementia come spring. I know she will have a fit about that. I will put this off until we return from vacation and the weather is a little better. She absolutely will not go out if it is nasty.

Hersey, glad you got your car returned. Having no wheels is stinky.

DG hope you can stay dry today without your umbrella. It is raining and nasty here right now. Good luck with your bowling fundraiser.

Paint, it must be funny sometimes to be surrounded at school by youngens. I try not to laugh when I hear the college-aged/high-school aged kids talking when I am at work. I well remember those days and as I think back on it now, realize what a goof I was.:rolleyes1 I am sure your Grandpa loves his own home. I think it is easier for the older folks to stay in their comfort zone and what they know. My mom doesn't want to give up her home either. They just don't realize (or won't) that it puts such a burden on others who have to now manage to care for 2 households/repairs/yard work. I, for one, am already ready to retire to an assisted living facility.:lmao:

Mac, hope you don't get any snow tonight-hope we don't either for that matter.

momto1, glad your DS is doing OK with his contacts. He'll get used to taking them out and putting them in.

Well, guess I will put the dishes away and then do some :laundy: . Later all.

Doctor's office called, and Lauren's MRI was normal. Great news, but it is still a mystery as to why she hurts all the time. The nurse (who actually called) is going to talk to the doctor and see what he wants to do next.

Yesterday was a yucky yucky day!!!!
It looks like today won't be much better.

paint - That's a funny story about the highschool observation:laughing:
**If you have assisted living places by you, like what we have by me, he would love it there. The places by us are really really nice. I've toured one with The Chamber of Commerce and it's set up like a little town with cobblestone streets. They have a movie theater, ice cream shop, barber shop/hair salon, drug store - so cute!!!!

Mac - You are so funny!!!

DG - What a bummer about forgetting your umbrella. I hope you didn't get to wet.

momto1 - I had a pinch of business, but just a tiny pinch. Rain really keeps people away:guilty:

Tigggggggggggggernnnnnnnnnnnnnnnn - I mini strokes was something the doctor originally throught could be my dads problem, but he had a catscan and EEG to confirm the Alzheimers. I'm glad to hear that your mom doesn't have Alzheimers, because hopefully she won't get as bad as fast as my dad (I'll pray she doesn't). Their problems are still similiar, and I have a feeling we'll be leaning on each other alot during this

piglet - I"m glad to hear about Lauren's MRI being normal:cheer2: Still having a mystery on what's wrong though is frustrating. I pray that you will get an anwswer soon, so you can do what's necessary to fix it..

Well, I must get Stephanie up and going - have a good day!!!

Happy Friday Everyone! :flower3: It sure has been a long week! I'm ready for a nice weekend of relaxation! :goodvibes

momto1 ~ I believe opening night is Tosca... but I could be wrong I don't have my 09/10 season brochure nearby. I would actually rather be in sunny Florida participating in a 5K than here though!

Tigg ~ I actually did stay dry yesterday. The rain stopped shortly before I left work and then started back up after i was on the train... then it stopped again one stop before I was supposed to get off.... man was I a lucky duck yesterday! I should've bought a lottery ticket  Good luck with the cookies! Sorry to hear about your mom  I'll keep you and your family in my thoughts and prayers!

Piggy ~ Glad to hear Lauren's MRI came out normal. Hope she starts feeling better soon. :wizard: Hopefully, the doc will figure something out to help her.

Hi guys! Yeah Friday!! Sorry I've been MIA for a while. DH was off last week so my schedule was completely thrown off. We went to the Auto Show and out to lunch a few days but I didn't get any of my normal things done so this week was catch up. Plus I've been doing some research for our June trip, I've kept up with the reading here though.

slo - sorry to hear about your dad, many prayers for you and your parents. It is so hard to see our parents age, my parents are both in their 80s now and it is shocking to me sometimes how fast they are aging.
*I've decided to give up the radio in the car too, boy it is tougher than I thought. I've found myself reaching for the knob quite a few times but the peace and quiet is actually nice, just different.

piglet - glad to hear your dds MRI came out OK but hope they figure out what's up for her.

disneygal - glad you stayed dry, boy was it wet out last night! DD7 and I were out in the thick of it shopping for a birthday present......not fun.

Tiggerrn - my DS has ISATs for the next two weeks too. Good luck with the cookies next week!

paint - lol, I like your funny high school story. I hope you stayed dry yesterday and got your paper done!

everyone else - :wave2: hope you have a great Friday.

DS is off school today and has been on the couch playing PlayStation since he got up at 8am so I think it's time for a break. DD11 had a BBall game tonight and tomorrow along with her flute competition at school so she'll be a busy bee. Tomorrow I think we're going to get together with my family for my DBro's birthday. Hoping Sunday will be a quiet day before we head into another week.

Have a great Friday everyone, stay warm - it's chilly out there! :flower3:

Hi gang! TGIF! Looks like lots of our kiddos will be doing ISAT's soon. Ours start Monday. Now remember to have them well rested, a good breakfast and at school on time!

Piglet - Good news on Lauren's MRI. Do you know what the next step is in finding out the cause of her pain? Good luck!

ID -Sounds like you and dh had a nice week! Good luck to your daughter at her flute competition. DS was supposed to compete tomorrow, too, but he "forgot" to turn in the money to register. Hmmmm....

I been walking after work with my walking buddies. I hope to keep it up this weekend!

Hi to everyone! Have a great weekend!
Lori

hey guys just curious is there anybody on the boards who lives in or around Elgin?

robbya, we live in newer(2000) townhome in Carpentersville. we were raised in chitown, moved to a little ranch in cville in 82 (meadowdale), had a home built in Algonquin in 87. downsized to a new townhome in 2000 when we became empty nesters. (sorta, it's a mite more complicated, but for the FULL story, see hubby's trip reports. he has a new one going, "smidgy and the grump, or badtime stories") .
have you always lived in the fox valley area? when I was a kid in chicago, my family had a summer home in Cary on the river.
we're not far from spring hill mall. never been to the boat, but I've been to Hemmen's auditorium. welcome to the DIS!!!
