Calling all Chicago DISers #3

Well gang, I fired my first employee yesterday (as a business owner - I've fired others in the past when I managed someone else's store). As much I hated to do this, it was necessary. So now I have to work a little more, which in one hand stinks, but in the other hand is okay, because I will get some more stuff done.

Tonight my friend Jennifer and I are taking our girls to see The Jonas Brothers in 3-D. These tickets were my girls Valentines Day present - so they are very excited about going (especially Katie - she just  the Jonas Brothers). This movie must not be as popular as the Miley Cyrus movie, because I just looked on Fandango, and it's not sold out. The Miley Cyrus movie around here sold out super quick. We were going to go super early to make sure we got a seat together, but maybe we can get there 45 minutes early, instead of an hour early.

So, I"m just loving Facebook - so fun!!!!
I"m going to make a Facebook page for my store - it might be good advertising.
I figured The DIS has one, a local bowling shop has one, why can't I have one?!
So, I'll see how that goes :thumbsup2

DG - :wave2:

ID - That's great that you are joining me with giving up music in the car :) It is tough, especially when you are in the car for awhile, but that's when you know it's a good scarifice:thumbsup2 This is my 3rd year doing it, and I always chuckle on Easter Sunday after we leave church, because the girls never remember they can put the radio back on - they get so used to the quiet. Then when we put Radio Disney back on, it's like we never left - the exact same music is always playing:laughing:
**Good luck to your DD today :wizard: Let us know how she did.

momto1 - Stephanie's ISTEP tests are this week coming up too - she's not looking forward to them - she hates them!!!!:headache:

Robbya - Hi and :welcome:

smidgy - :wave2:

Well, it's time for me to go eat my daily grapefruit and get ready for my day. Stephanie has a hearing test at 11am, and then we have many errands to run.

Have a good day today!!!

hey guys just curious is there anybody on the boards who lives in or around Elgin?

There are a lot of us in the western burbs. I am in Carol stream. Welcome BTW

Slo Like I said on FB It must have been a difficult decision. Hopefully you will find someone who will fill those shoes better. Have fun at the movie?

I don't think I like the little peeks at spring we have been having. I want it to stay. Yesterday was too cold.

I know a cat that has it's own face book :rolleyes1

Doctor's office called, and Lauren's MRI was normal. Great news, but it is still a mystery as to why she hurts all the time. The nurse (who actually called) is going to talk to the doctor and see what he wants to do next.

great news.. but know then answers is gotta be frusterating for you.. so hope they find out what the cause is and can fix it..

Eric's band took 3rd place in the Battle of the Bands.. YEAH!! of course there were only 4 bands.. but who is counting..;) tonight is Turnabout dance so I am the chauffer for many.. to pictures, to dinner, to the dance , to the party and home from the party.. so that is my night..

welcome robbya.. we are in Palatine..

hey SLO .. maybe we should change the tittle to the thread to Chicago Area or SMSA to find more folks..

Happy Saturday everyone! Been a great day around here. DD11 scored 4 of their 12pts in their BBall win this morning and then got a perfect score in her flute competition. She was flying high and grinning from ear to ear! I'm so happy for her. Her band teacher did tell me that she wasn't surprised that DD is going excellent.

DH will be in Vegas next week for their Open House so the schedule around here will be crazy. There has been non-stop talk at his office on what's going to happen with the lay offs. Going to be a long March waiting for news.

geffric - congrats to your DSs band!

mac - isn't it quiet in the car now? I was surprised what a difference it makes.

Hersey - I too want spring to come and stay, just HATE being cold!

slo - sorry you had to fire your employee. Was this the one that cancelled on you at the last minute recently because her mom made her an MD appt?
*Have fun at the concert/movie tonight. I'm surprised my DDs have not said one word about wanting to go. :confused3

Robbya - Welcome! Not in Elgin, we're in Elmhurst.

momto1 - we didn't have to pay for the competition separate, they include it in the band fee at the beginning of the year which is nice. One less thing to worry about and have to keep track of.

:wave2: to everyone else, I hope you're all enjoying this sunny Saturday.

They have the June hours posted for WDW so I'm off to try and figure out a schedule before my ADR window opens on the 14th.

Have a great one everyone! :flower3:

DH will be in Vegas next week for their Open House

Carol and I are heading for Vegas this coming week for a Checkpoint conference I'm going to. We're staying two extra days so we can celebrate our 5 year anniversary. We got married in Vegas on April 11th, 2004.

Evening all!
Slo, how was the concert/movie? Hope you don't get overworked now and that you find a replacement really soon.
Mac, Slo, and ID, I wish turning the radio off in our car would make it quiet. Unfortunately DS just talks even more when there is no music.:lmao: And says "Mom" at least 100 times from school to home (5 minute drive). My ears are tired by the time we walk in the door.
John and Carol, HAPPY ANNIVERSARY Hope you have a great time in Vegas and that your pockets are a little heavier upon your return.:thumbsup2
Welcome to all our newfound friends.
Well, I am turning in. Just wanted to say hello and check in with everyone. We had a lovely, lazy day here today. Did a little :laundy: and played Wii with DS and had an afternoon nap. It was wonderful!
Later all.

Hey all..okay, it's March, can we please have some warmer weather now??

SLO..many, many hugs to you...please know you and your family are in my thoughts and prayers. Know you can share with us *anytime*.

Tiggg...do you like the Wi system? What games/programs do you use on it?

Robbya..welcome to the thread... My son is a proud grad of Elmhurst college. What is your major?

John & Carol..Happy Anniversary! I hope you have a wonderful time in Las Vegas, can't wait to hear all about it!

ID...when is your Disney trip? Where are you looking to get ADRs?

Geffric...congratulations to Eric's band! Woo-Hoo!

Smidgy..we know folks out in C'ville..welcome to the thread!

Mac...thank you...how are you doing these days, how is your therapy going?

Hersey..how can we stay warm for the new few months?? (Glad you got your car back okay).

We watched some exciting sports on tv this weekend...the school where Brian teaches had their girls basketball team competing for the state title, and they came in first place. :thumbsup2 They already have won 7 state titles for football, so it was kind of cool to see another sport excel, too! He is getting ready for the spring musical (he works with the drama director) in a few weeks.

Shout out to ALL, Hope everyone is enjoying a laid-back Sunday and has a good week

it is snowing here now.
just flurries but still, that gives me the willys..........

it is snowing here now.
just flurries but still, that gives me the willys..........

We have gotten about an inch or 2 but it is blowing around like crazy. I had the ballet girls run today over to Griffith, IN and it was the worst drive I've had since last spring around this time.:rolleyes1 Beginning not to like Peter Pan Ballet rehearsals.
In case anyone doesn't already know this....I HATE THIS WEATHER!!!

Hope you've all had a nice weekend. Now....back to work!

DonnaW, we have Wii Fit. I love the Lego games and the Wii Fit is fun. I have played DisneyThinkFast and like that. DS is into playing Smash Bros Brawl right now. Plays with friends. I don't get it.:confused3 Just hitting each other until the computer announces who wins. We have a few other games the kids play, but I can't give a review on those. Bowling and Baseball were fun. That comes with the game system.

Well, going to run and get something done before lights out.
Have a nice week everyone. And let's all pray for some warmth and sunshine this week, shall we?!

Robbya..welcome to the thread... My son is a proud grad of Elmhurst college. What is your major?

I am an working on my elementary education. Right now im a first semester junior because i wasnt able to finish this past fall semester because of a car accident.

robbya and donna (or anyone else in the area), come see me where I waitress, fri and sat nights and sundays till 8. Wine and roses. speaking of which, did you hear aabout the couple in the hospital delivery room? In the middle of labor, the woman started screaming, "I shouldn't, I couldn't, I won't and I can't!"
hubby says to the doctor, "what's wrong with her?" doctor replies......

"Don't worry, she's just having contractions!"

I'd love to stop by when do you work

I work fri and sat nights, 4-10 or 11. sundays, noon till 8. ask for Diane.
hubby Nebo and I are disney-aholics. so many of our friends think we're nutz for going to the same place for vacation all the time.... (these are the same people who go to Wisconsin fishing EVERY vacation.)
we try to say.. Disneyworld is NOT just a castle, Mickey mouse, and dumbo!
we know people who spent $1000 for 3 days at a resort in cancun (2 nights). we spent the same for a week at the World , at just as nice a resort. I could spend a whole week at just one of the resorts alone!!! without the parks! and there is so much more.. the segway tours, the shows, downtown disney, the sea racer boats, the fine restaurants, Jelly rolls at the boardwalk, Karaokee at Kimonos.,the concerts(flower power, eat to the beat),... but I'm preaching to the choir here.
we LOVE fellow Disney fans!!!!!:grouphug:

for the first time, we went to the world when the decorations were up! a must do!!! the candle light processional at epcot, and the strytellers. all the trees. we visited the dif. resorts (helps if you drive down) to see all their decor. (the gingerbread house at GF, the carousel at boardwalk, the giant tree at wilderness Lodge). the BEST is the Osbourne lights a t MGM (sorry, Hollywood studios)... words CANNOT describe! neither can pictures! aamd the "snow" coming down on you (also on "main street" at MK)
although, unfortunately on our last trip a few weeks back, we almost had REAL snow!!!:scared1: it was that cold!!!
definitly try to go after thanksgiving and before christmas. It wasn't as "dead" as we thought it would be. and try not to stay at a value resort. we love them, but ask first if they are hosting "pop warner" groups in early dec. we were at Music and there were a bunch of unruly groups "taking over" the resort. running up and down the resort all hours of the morning. no wonder we got the room for $45 a night! :rotfl: .. sstill, not bad, considering!
we also love all the friends we have met... our friends don't like disney? .. hmm. make NEW friends! we have meet many "imaginary" friends through hubby's trip reports(he has a new one, ;smidgy and the grump)but wwe have met up with quite a few in person at the world!!... quite a treat.
sept.07, 2 other families and us were at the same resort, met up quite often to eat or drinks or at the pool, and there was a bigger meet at the Poly beach for drinks and wishes. we had "representatives" from Illinois, Georgia, Utah, Kentucky, New Jersey. and on the dec trip we hooked up with "friends" from OHio at the Music resort that we ended up spending a few days with! and still keep in touch.
anyhow, if you are in the neighborhood, stop in at wine and roses for a dinner and ask for diane. of check out hubby's trip report. (nebo).

MAC... yes, we still LOVE universal, just haven't gotten there lately. would love to, just hate to go unless we can stay onsite, and it's still pretty pricey for us. but thanks for making me feel welcome onthose boards!!!

:surfweb:

Sorry I didn't check in yesterday - I didn't have a chance.

My review of the Jo Bros movie is thumbs down. Granted, I'm not a huge fan of theirs, but the movie was kinda slow - Katie and her friend were bored at times. Stephanie said she was never bored, but the movie did move slowly. The theater was only 1/2 packed, if that, and there were no screaming girls - completely different than the Miley Cyrus movie last year.

After the movie we got some pizzas, came to my house, and played Monopoly, with Kevin, until 12:30am :faint: By the time Jen left it was almost 1am - I never stay up that late :faint: The girls were exhausted, but they had so much fun!!!!

Then Sunday morning we slept in, and then my other friend came over for awhile to visit with her kids - it was nice to see her!!!! Then during the afternoon Stephanie and I cuddled in a chair watching tv and then we went to church for 6pm Mass

We had a good weekend!!!!! :goodvibes

HERSEY - It's never easy to fire someone, but she didn't seem upset about it at all. In fact, she seemed really happy when I told her about it. She probably wondered what took me so long:rolleyes:

Mac - That's great that you joined us with doing no music in the car:thumbsup2 . The silence is nice, but weird isn't it?

geffric - Congrats on Eric on 3rd place!!!:cheer2:
*What does SMSA mean?

ID - Congrats to your DD with her perfect score:cheer2:
**Yes, that's the employee ::yes::

Crissup - Have a safe, fun, trip in Vegas!!!:cool1: Happy Anniversary too!!!

Robbya - :wave2:

Tiiiigggggernnnn - With this employee gone, I will need to work more hours, but I won't need to do more work physically, because I didn't trust her to do much anyway. I actually have 2 new applications to consider when business picks up a little bit.:thumbsup2

Donna - Thank you!!!!:)

smidgy - :wave2:

Well, I gotta run and get Ms. Stephanie up for school.
Have a great day today everyone!!!

we try to say.. Disneyworld is NOT just a castle, Mickey mouse, and dumbo!

Most people just have no clue how there is down there to do. I just had the conversation with a guy two weeks ago. He's a grandfather and they've been hitting Disney every year for the past ten years, so he figured they'd done it all and seen it all. As I started to point out many of the lesser known things to do down there, he started to realize that they had just been scratching the surface for the past ten years. The Sandtrap Grill with it's beautiful views overlooking the golf course and free Wi-Fi. The All Star Cafe for a nice lunch with out a lot of crowds, the mini golf, the water parks, all the various resorts, etc, etc. I agree, we could spend an entire week down there and never walk into a theme park.
