Calling all Chicago DISers #3

I"m so not in the mood to go to work today, but ya gotta do, what ya gotta do :)

Thanks to all that complimented Stephanie:goodvibes
I appreciate all your kind responses!!!!!:grouphug:

Sophie is a happier dog today :dog:
Kevin worked really hard yesterday to make 1/2 of the backyard enclosed for her to roam. Up until now, she always had to be on a leash, and never had any freedom. She was so happy last night, when she could investigate the backyard. Kevin has a little more work to do, and when he's done, I can just let her out the backdoor:thumbsup2 I'm so happy!!!!:woohoo:

geffric -
I understand these happy/sad moments, but on a different level, because my kids are so much younger. I can't even imagine how I will feel when Stephanie graduates from HS and has a steady boyfriend. It seems so long away, but it's really not - she starts middle school next year:eek: A big CONGRADULATIONS to Geoff:cheer2:, and I hope his graduation goes smooth tomorrow :wizard:
**I did find a new package of bologna for Stephanie, but I had PB&J for myself for lunch ;) I haven't been to Aldis in almost 2 weeks, and it's beginning to show. I guess I know where I am going Monday night after work.

Becky - I'm glad Kyle is doing better :)
*I have a problem with pants being to big in the waist for STephanie too ::yes:: I hope you find what you need :wizard:

DG - :wave2:

esbrick - How was your ice cream social last night? That sounds fun!!!!:)

Emmas Dad - You received some great advice here :thumbsup2
I wanted to say :welcome: to our thread and thanks for coming here for advice. We've done this for many DISers and I'm glad you felt comfortable enough to come on here and ask. I hope you have a great trip to Chicago, and are able to do everything you set out to do :cool1:
*I agree about Water Tower Place being an overpriced mall, but it does have The American Girl Store. Even if you aren't into their dolls, it is a fun place to walk through and look around. If you aren't shopping, this visit will only take a short amount of time (I would only do if in the area, don't go out of your way).

Leigh - :wave2:

Kim - CONGRADULATIONS to Matt :cheer2:What did he major in?
*I really enjoyed the Chicago History Museum when we went last year :thumbsup2 This is a good recommendation!!!

Well, it's time for me to get ready for work, and time for me to wake up the girls - they need to go to work with me this morning.
Have a good day!!!

Hi HERSEY - we posted at the same time :wave2:

Thanks for the congrats for Stephanie :goodvibes

I'm so glad you found your dogs :)
That's terrible that kids in the neighborhood let them out :headache:
That makes me mad just thinking about it

While John has given you MORE than any of us, may I bring up a small, historical museum that I loved (as a kid)?

I also forgot the skydeck on the Sears Tower. And, if you enjoy baseball, Wrigley Field is the second oldest ballpark in the country (behind Fenway).

Hello to all...

Everyone sounds quite busy with end of the school year happenings! I hope you all enjoy all of the crazy and special times (and proud parent moments..congratulations to ALL) , and then get to enjoy some time with your families during the summer break.

Bunchkin, continued prayers being sent for your family as you face this new challenge. You know you will be missed here in Chicago, but you will always have a special "home" here...(and I know you will continue to post to the thread!)

And, yes, you did hear about Brian's school...Driscoll Catholic..(now that it's over I can post the name, I guess?) on the news. It is very sad for all of us that the school is closed. The Save Driscoll committee met all the requirements, we all thought, including raising close to $1 million in less than three weeks, for continuing the school, but it wasn't meant to be. So, not only is the school my kids graduated from gone, but Brian is out of a job, too. If anyone knows of any high school music director job possibilities, please let me know!

Shout out to ALL the Chicago homies...MAC, especially, hope you are doing okay.., and KIMRAYE..the late night DIS-er, HERSEY...with the great sense of humor.. CRISSUP...our tour guide!...and SLO..the one who started it all!!! Hope you all enjoy the rest of the weekend.....know that I think of my Chicago friends often...take care.

Wow! So many responses! You guys are awesome. I was going to reply to each of your suggestions, but I'm in a time-crunch now to get packed and ready for my early flight. Thank you so much for each of your replies :thumbsup2

Looking at the NWS, looks like it's going to be an absolutely gorgeous day tomorrow for walking outside. I believe I'm going to try the Field Museum and hang out in that area for a while. Did you guys know that you can see the museum and planetarium on Google maps at the street level? That is a stunning city view from the planetarium!

Have a great DIS day!
Don

Kim - CONGRADULATIONS to Matt :cheer2:What did he major in?
*I really enjoyed the Chicago History Museum when we went last year :thumbsup2 This is a good recommendation!!!
Thanks Sandy! There was no major tho, nor any degree, just a certificate for 2 years of doing what he LOVES to do - FILM! :rolleyes1 $40,000 for 2 years, in loans, which need to start being paid now - OUCH!

Glad you enjoyed the Chicago History Museum as well! I really like that place too!

:thumbsup2

I also forgot the skydeck on the Sears Tower. And, if you enjoy baseball, Wrigley Field is the second oldest ballpark in the country (behind Fenway).
Is it Sears or Hancock that has, or is getting, those glass floor balconies?!?! If you have ANY fear of heights, this is somewhere NOT to go! :rotfl:

Wrigley Field, undoubtedly, is THE PLACE to visit for baseball! If you need tics - check with me! ;)

Hi Donna!!
raising close to $1 million in less than three weeks, for continuing the school, but it wasn't meant to be. So, not only is the school my kids graduated from gone, but Brian is out of a job, too. If anyone knows of any high school music director job possibilities, please let me know!
Where did the nearly $1 million go?? :confused3

HS musical director/possible opening? Walther Lutheran HS, River Forest, fyi. ;) They teach Kelly who's in grammar school and, I realize it's Lutheran but, we all pray the same. :goodvibes

Don
Hope you see it first-hand! :thumbsup2 We DO have a stunning lake view skyline! :goodvibes Let us know how your trip was, please!

Thanks, Kim, for the info! I will pass it on to Brian. As for the $, the checks that were contributed were held in escrow and all of it was returned to the contributors when the decision to close the school became final. Cash, untraceable donations (not very much of the total) are being used to fund a memorial at the village hall for the school and some of that money is going to go to the teachers from the school. (There was a survey on the website as to where people thought the untraceable cash $ should go and those were the top choices). Thank you, again, for the info.

Emma's Dad...have a *great* time in Chicago!

Hope you all got out to enjoy this gorgeous day today!
:goodvibes

Hi guys! Wow, that weekend went fast! I spent most of Thurs and Fri ironing out the last minute details for the Springfield trip and getting all the forms filed and out to the girls. Got some yard work done this weekend but there is so much more to get done.

Emma's Dad - hope you had a good day today. You had great weather for sightseeing.

Donna - so sorry about Driscoll, hope your DS finds a new position soon.

Crissup - wow, you should be a tour guide. As lifelong Chicago residents I'm ashamed to say there are a lot of things on your list we've never done. Hmmm, think it's time to pretend we're visitors to Chicago and enjoy what it has to offer!

slo - yeah for Sophie! Our dog Belle is a strictly leash walked dog too. Even if we had a fenced yard I'd be nervous with her digging under the fence or taking after her mother who could climb chain link.
*Congrats to Stephanie, it is so nice to hear such compliments on our kids. It lets us know we're doing a good job.

Hersey - I hope you got your yard work done. Shame on those kids who'd let your dogs out!

:wave2: to all our other Chicago homies! Hope you enjoyed your beautiful weekend.

Well, this is going to be a busy week. There's a 2nd grade moms night on Tues night. Have to chaperone DS8s field trip downtown Wednesday for a Wendella Boat tour and then leave Thurs 11a with DD12s Girl Scout troop for an overnight to Springfield. Phew! Guess I'd better get some sleep in advance. Goodnight all. :flower3:

Funny you say that! I know I have a different attitude when I'm OUT of town as opposed to here in town, and I never feel touristy when I'm here. I'll bet if I moved away, I'd wanna come back tho! :thumbsup2

Good Morning Everyone! :flower3: Hope everyone enjoyed the weather yesterday. I ran alot of errands and just kind of hung out all day. Didn't do anything I really needed to do (i.e. laundry and packing up my sweaters and winter clothes). As celebration for booking my September trip, my dad and I went to the Disney store. I bought 2 minnie mouse shirts! I'm so excited!::MinnieMo

ID ~ have fun chaperoning this week!

Mac ~ thanks for the listings!

Everyone else ~ have a fabulous rainy day!

Happy Monday everyone! Last week of school for my guys. Kevin is done today, and Nathan and Lauren will be done on Friday. (but they have Thursday off)

Greetings..

Geoff graduated last night and it was very special. The whole ceremony was great, he had a bit of an attitude but once he got there he was as awed as the rest of us.. ( not that he would memtioned it of course). Eric played in the band so it was super special for us to have both boys involved. Touching moment - when Geoff was walking out, Eric let his band post and when over to:love: him to give him a BIG hug.. awe that was so wonderful.. after they dropped us off both boys went out..

My family was over in the afternoon for a grad get together and then my sister and her spouse went to the grad ceremony with us..

next week is DH's family and the cook out.. that will be fun..

Today Eric had school, finals start wednesday.. and Geoff went bike riding with friends..

Congratulations to Geoff on his graduation.

Kevin was awarded with a pretty big honor at the JROTC banquet tonight. He won "First Year Top Cadet" and was given a medal and ribbon to wear on his uniform. A complete surprise for us, and he is so happy.
