Wow! At our school, if they took Spanish I, it counts for high school. Then again, it is a class that they actually go to the H.S. to take, so maybe that is why?? Have fun tonight! Ours should be coming soon.
That's probably it. I actually looked up the information at the State of IL education website because I was trying to find graduation requirements for the class of 2012 out, since the program lists 2008 and then 2009, 2010 & 2011 all have different requirements, so wasn't sure if 2012 would be. From what I can tell it's the same as the 2009-2011 requirements. I guess I'll find out tonight.
In the process of reading a VERY, VERY long information document, etc.. basically it stated that taking a HS level course in Middle School only counts toward HS credit IF it's taken at the High School. Since DD's class is taken at the Middle School it doesn't count. I personally think that stinks too but it's the way it is. I figure since they push so much that this is the equivilant class as taking French I your Freshman year, you should get credit for it!
I had thought of that before she took it. Here it is a High School level course but you don't get credit for it, so basically you are stuck either re-taking it again next year or you could take French II. Of course, you don't even need *any* language to graduate. It's not a requirement. It's just most colleges want to see 2 years of language and I know the state colleges put that as a requirement.
Unfortunately, since Home Ec wasn't a full-year course (since she loved that class & wanted to take it), she was stuck taking the language. She would have had to match Home Ec up with Art, Tech Ed or Music and she didn't want any of the above. She doesn't like Art at all, is scared to death of the machines in Tech Ed and well General Music is *boring* to her. She takes choir as a completely seperate class. She couldn't just have study hall instead -- that is taken up by the choir/band/orchestra timeframe. So she *had* to pick something for 8th grade. She picked French I. We just haven't decided if she should re-take French I or not. From my understanding, it's the exact same book & workbook they are using. Her last report card she got a C+ so it's borderline for her. Then she was talking about how it goes by your last report card (if you get an A or B, they don't want you re-taking French I) so for all I know we could sign her up for French I, she ends up with a B since she was really close to a B this time around and they automatically bump her into French II. She got a B- 1st quarter. And to think the counselors last year tried to tell me for her NOT to take this class because they thought it would be too hard for her.
