Morning people! :wave2:

It's so cloudy right now that I fear the weather reports may be true!

Later today I'm going to the salon to "wash that gray right out of my hair"! :rotfl: Why is it that the older I get the more gray hair I get also grows in quicker and reappears quicker after getting it colored?? :rolleyes2
It's a vicious cycle!!!! :crazy2:

slo So did you go for dinner or breakfast? I was confused by your post! ;)
It sounds like you found some great finds yesterday. And I will look into Children's Place the next time we head to the mall.
I bet Stephanie will be beautiful in her Communion dress!! princess:

Donald's Shrink That was nice of the Jewel to donate items to everyone. And I actually think it's such a great show of support for many of the students and staff to be back on campus!! ::yes::
I love Tennesse, been many times!!!! Although, we haven't been to Pigeon Forge....yet!! :thumbsup2

piglet Have you thought of going to Springfield? I picked up a book at the library not that long ago that was about family vacations to Springfield. It was crammed with lots of info on what to do. Museums, zoo, tours, hotels , restaurants. Some of the historical/cultural places they listed were free!!! I couldn't believe it!!!
My kids are dying to go see anything to do with Lincoln! I think that's why we love the Hall of Pres. in WDW!! :rotfl:
And my kids really want to travel there via old Route 66! DS wants to go eat at the infamous Cozy Dog Drive In, I believe they were they first to have corn dogs.

paint Not that long ago, couple weeks or so, I went past a closed down Krispy Kreme!! I couldn't believe it!!!! Any other one I have driven past is always busy so I can't imagine one going out of business!!! :rotfl:

We would like it to be far enough away to justify staying in a hotel (with pool) or at least sleeping in a tent/cabin. So, any ideas????

How about the Dells or Mackinac Island in Michigan? It's amazing there!!

Smokey Mountains here we come! :drive: I just booked a cozy cabin for 4 nights during our spring break. It's not WDW, but it will still be fun. This is actually the first spring break trip I've taken after 8 years of college. I'm excited! :hyper:

Mackinac sounds good too, will have to look into that. Water park places are out because, well, I just don't feel safe at them. Pools I am OK with because I can keep a better eye on the kids. After seeing Nathan almost drown, even a plain old pool is tough.

DS ~ Enjoy your trip!

Hi gang! Ready for more snow? Let's hope the weather forcasters are totally wrong this time!

Piglet - You have been given tons of great ideas. Did anyone mention Indianapolis? There is a great Children's Museum there. Also, I took ds to St. Louis several years ago while dh was at a conference. They have an awesome Children's Museum, too. The Lincoln Museum in Springfield is great, too! Let us know what you decide.

Donald's Shrink - I hope today wasn't too stressful at NIU! Everyone there is in my thoughts and prayers. The Smokey Mountains for spring break sound great! The year DH convinced me to go camping for the first time ever we went to the Smokies in May. We pulled into the campground for my very first time ever camping trip and it started snowing! He thought I would never do it again. But, I did and still do love camping! The last time we went we were able to see a momma bear and her cub in a tree. Talk about a traffic jam and tourist attraction.

Donna - How is the girlfriend doing? I hope she is improving? How is you son holding up?

Slo - I bet Stephanie will be gorgeous in her Communion dress. How exciting!

DS received a second place medal at the solo and ensemble contest on Saturday. It was his first time and he was soooo nervous! He played his selecetion near perfect but messed up on the C scale! He was happy about the outcome.

I finalized the arrangements for the conference next week in DC. I really hope they are having nice spring like weather!

That's all for now. Take care and I hope our commutes aren't buried in snow.
Lori

So.....how much snow did you all get?????
We got quite a bit. In fact, I'm waiting to see if Stephanie is going to have a 2 hour delay. I wish they would have posted it by now, so I can know if I can go back to bed or not. By the time they announce it, I'll be wide awake, and it won't matter

The smilies are switched again :headache: :headache:

Becky - HOw was your son's concert last night? I hope the drive wasn't to bad.
**Congrats to your DD for getting 4th place :cheer2:

DS - It's good the students want to go back to school. Have you seen alot of people? I'm still keeping all you in my thoughts and prayers :grouphug:

Bunchkin -
slo said:
We went out to dinner at a Greek restaurant by us - it was yummy!!!! I love going out to breakfast too ::yes::
Oh come on, how was this confusing?!?!:rotfl2: :rotfl2:
After I read what I wrote, I laughed, because it is confusing:rotfl:
We went out to breakfast on Sunday, but I do like having dinner at Greek restaurants too - they have lemon rice soup at them :goodvibes :goodvibes

momto1 - Congrats to your son getting a 2nd place metal :cheer2:

To everyone else - :wave2:

Well, I gotta go check the school website
Have a good day today!!!

Hi, all.

Brian's gf is still in ICU. Wld appreciate continued prayers. Thanks....

You are all in my thoughts.

Stay safe out there!

Donna ~ She will continue to be in my thoughts.

Not sure how much snow is out there, but the kids have school, and on time too.

Morning all.
Sorry MIA for a few days. We enjoyed our out of town guests. However, they certainly could have kept their sick germs with them. Now, kids and I are all stuck with colds, coughs and scratchy throats. No fevers thank goodness, so they are not missing any school.
And it was so lovely to wake up to this wonderful weather.:rotfl2: Will it ever end?!!!
Donna, will keep your son's GF in prayers and thought. Any news?
Slo, the lemon rice soup sounds absolutely wonderful right now. In fact, anything hot sounds great!!!
Everyone stay safe out there if you have to go out today. I think I will keep myself in my warm house and catch up with the :laundy: and rest. I was supposed to help in DD class today, but I think I will keep my sickness to myself. No need to share with the kiddies.:sad2:
Really glad I got my groceries yesterday and filled the tank with gas, got the banking and post office errands run. I don't want to do anything today out there!
 to all who need one.
Later

Hi all-
Donna- Continued prayers for your DS's girlfriend :grouphug:
Praying for improvement in her health.

My kids have school today as usual. Chrissy was really wanting another snow day today. We told her last night don't bet on a snow day today. She was not a happy camper this morning, getting ready for school. Oh well.
Need to take Matthew as usual to band practice after school today.

I don't think I gave any updates on my dad lately, so I'll give a quick update now. He is doing better. His last chemo tx. was about 6 weeks ago. He is gaining a little strength everyday. He has been back to work about a month now. His blood counts look good, where the docs want them to be.
He does need to gain some more weight, but I guess that will take some time to do.

Have a good day everyone :)

Hi all! The snow was beautiful but it can go away now. The commute up 55/Stevenson only took me about 50 minutes. It doesn't get much better than that on a non-snow day. I consider myself lucky this morning.

Donna - Prayers are going out for Brian and his girlfriend. I hope for a happy posting soon from you!

Sick friends - Please feel better soon!

DS brought home the track packet for school yesterday. He really wants to do track and he is a pretty fast runner but he doesn't need one more thing to do!

Dreaming of warmer days at Disney!
Lori

momto1 ~ thanks for the reminder, I need to sign DS13 permission slip for track. It starts on the 10th here and he is really looking forward to it. Is your DS in a lot of other stuff then? My son was so happy when he ran last year, and he even did cross country last fall, that he is just itching for the season to start up. If your DS wants to run that bad, are there other things he can cut back on? The season is not that long here, and they meet right after school.

keeping all our sick homies and friends in my prayers.

yes, we got snow here also.

So who's up for moving to a warmer climate? Any takers?
How about if we have a contest to see who can pack the quickest to leave!!?? :rotfl2:

Lots of snow and wind here. DH was up before me to go shovel and the wind has already blown a lot of it back on the front porch and driveway!
And DD talked her daddy into driving her this morning.....spoiled kid! That would have never worked for me as a kid!! :)

slo I figured you meant breakfast!!
So why does Steph's school have a late start every time it snows? Can't the custodians/maintenance people get there any earlier to shovel??? One of Lauren's friend's from school has a father who is a custodian at another school district and he has to be there sooooo early whenever it snows so that the school can open on time....just like our district.
Hope Kevin's ride to work didn't take too long this morning!!! :drive:

Donna

Tiggerrn Good idea staying inside today!!!! I'm with you on that one!! :thumbsup2 Sorry you and the kids got sick! Bad relatives!! ;)

Here's something that happened yesterday that I wanted to share with you all and see what you think about it!

So yesterday, like I mentioned, I went to the salon to get a hair cut and color. Brought the little guy with and his big sister's Nintendo DS! ;)
So I sit down to get my hair colored and right across from me is a mom, a 4 year old little girl and an about 2 year old boy.

And the LITTLE GIRL IS GETTING HIGHLIGHTS IN HER HAIR!!!!

I could not believe it!!!!

This little one obviously did not want this going on as she is starting to play with the foils and touch them. And of course her mom is telling her, and then yelling at her, to stop. The girl wants to cry. And of course the mom and the stylist are telling her if she touches them she could burn herself with the chemicals. So of course she is crying!!!
So at one point one of the other stylists asks the mom if the little girl is getting pink highlights, because there were only a few foils and they were placed not at the top layer of hair but underneath. The mom says no, that they are blond highlights. Well, the girl IS blond!!! White blond for that matter!!!

It took all I had to not say something to this mother's face. And I felt so sorry for the little girl. She was not happy.

So I started talking about this with my stylist. I asked her if the salon has rules about this kind of thing. A certain age they allow this to be done. She didn't know but said she would talk to the owner about it. And she said she wouldn't have done it to a small child.

I love mom's like that! Do they need attention that badly? Do they have nothing better to do with their time and money?

I hope she heard me talking about her from the other area they were in.
The whole thing just burnt my biscuits!!!

I for one will not be allowing Lauren to get highlights until she is in high school at the earliest. That said, I understand some moms letting their DDs get them. (Kevin's friends in 8th grade get them) But a 4 year old?!?!?!?! WTH is that mother thinking???

I think it is interesting how many places have delayed starts or close altogether. In the four years that we have been here in Mokena, they have used 2 snow days (both this year, the one was back in August after the storms and they had no power) and never had a delayed start or unplanned early dismissal. I don't recall too many snow days in New Lenox either, and never a delayed start unless I am forgetting about it. (same goes for early dismissal)

Why in the name of Mike does a little girl need highlights? THE BEST thing about children's hair is all the beautiful colors and highlights that we as adults strive to get? Isn't that the look we are going for? Now, tell me that doesn't ruin a little child's hair and not only that, but find me a 4 year old that can sit still that long.

Not many people can remember a lot from when they were three years old, but I can!! My mother decided she was going to give me a home perm. God awful rollers, smells, etc. and I still remember it! I had very kinky curly hair and my Mom thought that if she permed it with big rods, it would be ringlets. Well, guess what, all my pictures from when I was about three onward were of me with really short boyish haircuts and I think it had a lot to do with the fact that she ruined my hair with that Lilt home perm.

So, yeah, I agree with you 100% Bunchkin! Poor little girl...

I adore Lauren's natural highlights! I love the fact that our hair is similar, and there have been times I joked that I want to take her with me to the salon and say "make my hair the same colors as hers."

No kidding... Who are the highlights for??? The child or the MOM... Give me a break... My stylist was telling me that they had a mom come in to get her 5 year olds eyebrows waxed... They told her NO WAY!!!!!!!

Hi everyone! Roman is home and asleep! My little guy was a trooper! The doctors were phenomenal! He was in and out within 30 minutes.

The bad news.....

They found zero fluid in his ears.

The tubes MAY still help his hearing by opening up the ear canal fully! We will find out for sure on March 12 if there is any difference in the ear test.

So all in all it was a good day!

Thanks for thinking about him!
