Calling all Chicago DISers #2

Hey, Chicago! We had a good weekend. Saturday, Mark took me to see Disney on Ice at the United Center. We were thinking of going when it was closer to home, but it was just too cold last weekend to even *consider* going out! I really enjoyed the show, I'm such a kid at heart!!!

And, yep, we watched the Super Bowl...Brian's gf is a HUGE Steelers fan, so we were way excited that they won. However, I still get confused about football, give me a good ol' White Sox game any day of the week!:cheer2:

Slo, so what happened with your employee this weekend? I hope she figures out the meaning of being responsible. I HATE going to the dentist, so your girls get big congrats from me!!! (I had braces kind of *late*, so I would vote for sooner rather than later, if you find out that Stephanie does need them).

Mac, those Dorito commercials were my favorite ones, too! And I didn't like most of the Clydesdale horse ones, but the one where the horse went to fetch a stick right after the dog did it to get a treat just made me LOL.

Hersey...all the Pepsi commercials were beyond me. I didn't get them, either.

Disneygal...I wish I had a great suggestion to offer you for your reception location...I know you will find a perfect location!

Tig...your doggie got 3 walks...lucky doggie!

Momto1: I would have been terrified with a bomb scare!

Hello to all Chicago friends...have a great night!

Hi gang! The weekend is done and so is the first day of this work week. Next Monday and Tuesday, I will be in Atlanta, GA on business where it is warmer than here!

Slo - I am glad Katie did good at the dentist! We are in the getting ready for braces stage, too. In fact we have been going to the ortho since ds was 9 - he is now 12. They are waiting for the rest of his baby teeth to fall out. I think he is down to 3 now. We tell him he is "dentally delayed". He wants braces soooooo bad. It must be right of passage or something. He even has his colors picked out. Good luck with Stephanie's ears and then her ortho appt.

DG - I wish I had a suggestion for your reception. Good luck!

Donna - Sounds like fun going to Disney on Ice. I haven't been to one of those shows in years.

The Arizona conference/trip with hubby is now off. Since we are facing some budget cuts at work and have layed people off, I volunteered not to go. It just wasn't right that I would go to AZ on the company while some people lost their job. My CEO was very appreciative.

DS and DH are heading to the eye doc about now. Just the annual eye exam and checking into getting contacts. We'll see.

Better wrap things up at work soon.
Lori

I'm going to get more snow today
I'm not happy!!!!! :sad2:
Are any of you in the line of snow?

Donna - I'm glad you enjoyed the Disney on Ice show:) This is the first show in probably 8 years that we haven't gone to. The girls really wanted to go, but I'm trying so hard to not spend much money this year, that we opted to not go (I'm going to be really doing that now that Stephanie needs braces). Was it real busy? I was wondering if the economy would affect that show this year.

momto1 - I"m sorry you can't go to AZ with your DH :guilty: I would have felt the same way as you, and would feel guilty about going. Luckily, you do get to go to Atlanta next week, and have a little taste of warm - I'm jealous:)
**We can go through the braces thing together:) Stephanie is very excited about getting braces too, which surprises me. When I was a kid, getting braces was a nightmare, but apparently, that's not the case today. I hope she continues to be excited when they are in her mouth, but I have a feeling, her excitement will not last to long:sad2: , especially when she wants something with caramel:rolleyes:

Well, I must go get Stephanie out of bed - she has an alarm clock, but she turns it off when it rings, and I still need to wake her up - doesn't that defeat the purpose of an alarm clock:confused3
Have a good day!!!

are you making a joke there slo??

of course we are getting snow .............
Mr Snow never forgets where i live...:rolleyes1

4 of my sons wore braces.
we were still making payments to the orthodontists even a year after they were done wearing them...........

one son had the expander put in when he was 7 years old.
he wore that for 5 years before the braces were put on.

i don't know who cried the most during those years, the kids or me.
they all gripped and complained constantly.

as one of the homies already asked you this question, i'll piggy back on that.
did your employee show up that next day for work?
i'm curious.

Morning..

The boys have late start today.. that is where the school starts later allowing the teachers time for planning and meetings. It is instead of teacher days where the kids are off the entire day.. Anyway, they then have a shorten schedule.. so Eric asked if I could take him and his gf to Denny's for breakfast as they are having FREE grand slam breakfast. So i said sure and took them their before school..

well every free loader in Palatine was there.. but it was fun..

Offically stating I am sick of SNOW!! We are supposed to be getting 2-4 inhes more..and SLO is supposed to have 6-12 inches more.. BLECH!!!

Geoff had an expander.. I felt so sorry for him.. I called it the rack :lmao: I couldn't believe I had to turn it for his mouth to expand.. Yuck I felt so sorry for him that he had unlimited ice cream after I turned it to make his mouth feel better..

Both boys had braces - only downside was that they couldn't eat taffy apples..

Dewain took the kids to Denny's this morning too. They got the last table before the "wait" started, so got pretty lucky.

Good Morning Everyone! :flower3: After much discussion and a second and third opinion, we have decided to stick with the Cali Grill for the reception! While I know we won't have a whole lot of time for dancing, my sister and dad made a good point, "IT'S DISNEY WORLD!!! THERE ARE PLENTY OF THINGS WE ALL CAN DO AFTERWARDS!!" This made me feel much better! So California Grill it is. Anyone been there? I haven't, but hear the food is amazing! :goodvibes

Slo ~ Glad Katie did well at the dentist. :thumbsup2 I feel really bad for Stephanie though. I had to have braces for a little under a year to fix my jaw (go figure my teeth were fine). It was so miserable everytime i had to get them tightened. :sad2:

Everyone else ~ :wave2: have a wonderful day!

I haven't been to Cali Grill.. I have heard that the food and the view is wonderful

Morning all. Just wanted to say hi. Hope you all don't get too much snow in that there Lake effect zone. Looks like I won't get anything here.
Off and running to work, but will stop back in later.

Hi gang! It hasn't started snowing yet but is supposed to. Yuck! But, it is supposed to be 49 degrees on Saturday. Hang on for the weekend!

DS had his eye doctor appt yesterday. Just expecting it to be an annual exam and whammy his eyes aren't focusing together. He needs to start vision therapy. Supposedly it is computer based - like playing games - but the games are supposed to get his eyes to work together. Looking over the symptom sheet, I do see some signs that I wouldn't have known to think his eyes weren't focusing. Has anybody had any experience with vision therapy?

Slo - I hope you don't get the snow predicted! Be safe.

DG - Cali Grill sounds great! I haven't been but I am sure you made a great choice.

Better get back to work.
Lori

YEP Geoff had that too. Only back then it was not computer based. Went to a specialist.. It helped some but not 100%

I don't know if any of you are American Idol fans, but as I was watching I noticed the girl with the bright pink and orange hair has a Malificent :maleficen Tatoo on her left arm! I got all excited and kept saying to my dad, dude, she has a disney tatoo, she has to be cool!:lmao:
Just thought I'd share!:rotfl:

i'm addicted to AI....

i have watched it since the first season started.

when i had my knee surgery, i was able to be home that night right when AI came on.

great timing....

Hi guys! Yikes, I've got some catching up to do.

I got sucked into that Last Minute Travel promo for $1/night hotels which ended up really being free. I spent way too many hours Thurs trying for a room in WDW (some people were getting deluxes, even concierge level!) only to have my computer freeze up during the video once the promo did come up. I was so depressed! They didn't offer the promo over the weekend and I had vowed after the fiasco of Thurs that I'd never look again........my will power just wasn't strong enough. DH and I tag teamed the website yesterday, we actually got through but not until around 1am. Of course now NONE of the onsite resorts were available. :sad2: This whole promo was VERY poorly handled and I don't think I'll ever use them for future travel. I think they have garnered a lot of animosity over this whole thing.

slo - glad Katie had a good experience at the dentist. We are orthodontist searching too. DD11 is desperate to get braces :confused3 I don't think she really knows what it's going to be like. She just wants to be like the other kids.
*I hope you don't get too much snow! Starting Fri it is supposed to be in the 40s all the way until Tues with 50s on Saturday! They even said on the news that we'd see grass by then. :thumbsup2

disneygal - glad you worked out your reception dilema. We've never tried Cali Grill but I've read lots of great reviews.

momto1 - I had eye therapy as a kid for a lazy eye but that was back in the "dark ages", no computers back then. I had to cover my good eye and color all the Os in the newspaper with a red marker.
*Sorry your AZ trip is off, maybe another time.

:wave2: to everyone else!! I'm going to head to bed early, need to try and get some much needed sleep. Just one more cold day until the big thaw begins!

Night. (don't they have a sleeping smiley?)

Slo Hopefully you didn't get dumped on with all that snow. :grouphug:
How did Kevin do on his drive home?

OMGosh - Holy Name is on fire!!!!!!
I am praying that there's not much damage - that is a beautiful church, and I've always wanted to attend Mass there. It's always so sad to see historic places get damaged or destroyed :guilty:

I am happy to announce that I had no snow yesterday :cheer2: All the snow went east of us to Porter County - they got totally hammered!!! On of my best friends lives out that way, so I'll have to email him and see how him and his family are doing.

Mac - Did you get snow?
*My employee did come into work on Saturday, but I don't think she understands how annoyed I am. She was more worried about her acrylic nails that she got for her turnabout dance. She told my other employee that I said she could have "light duty" because of her nails. When I heard this I didn't know if I should laugh or be mad. The saga will continue!!!!

geffric - I heard about Denny's having the free breakfast, and I figured they would be "slammed" with people getting the free "Grand Slam". That was so nice of you take them - you're such a good mom!!!!!:goodvibes

piglet - :wave2:

DG - I LOVE CALIFORNIA GRILL!!!!!!:p What a great place to have a reception!!!! I can hardly wait to see pictures of your wedding and hear all about it:goodvibes

TTTTiiiiiiggggernnnnnn - We lucked out with no snow!!!!:cheer2:

momto1 - I have a very similiar problem with my eyes, but I've never had vision therapy. I don't know if my eye's just don't work together, or if they don't focus together. What I do know, is that I have to have "prisms" in my glasses, and I will never be able to wear contacts. Outside of that, I've never had issues with this - I just need to make sure I wear my glasses or I get a headache from eye strain. You'll have to let us know how the vision therapy goes - I'm very interested to hear what he has to do. I'll send a little PD his waypixiedust:

HERSEY - Kevin's drive home was good, since we got no snow - thanks for asking!!!!!:)

ID - I"m sorry you weren't able to get the $1 room:guilty: Reading about your DH and you tag teaming it brings back memories of when Kevin and I had to tag team to get our CRT seating the first couple of years (this was when you could only make your ADR's 60 days out). Luckily we did get it, but we were stressed out doing it:rotfl:
**I use this :faint: as my sleeping smilie.

Well, I better go and make Stephanie her lunch.
Have a good day today everyone!!!

OMGosh - Holy Name is on fire!!!!!!
I am praying that there's not much damage - that is a beautiful church, and I've always wanted to attend Mass there. It's always so sad to see historic places get damaged or destroyed :guilty: ...

Major water & smoke damage at least, check out the videos HERE:, look for Holy Name Fire...

More details HERE: and HERE:

.

Good Morning Everyone! :flower3: So sad about Holy Name. :sad2: I'm hoping the Chicago Historical Society will help fund repairs, do they do that?

Mac ~ I've also been a big fan of AI from the beginning. I used to watch it with my mom every night it was on. This season my dad and sister are watching with me! :upsidedow And I love the little AI icon you have! :)

ID ~ Sorry to hear about your $1/night stay dilema. I bet it was very iritating. I'm sure my patience would have gone out the door 10 minutes in. :rotfl:

Slo ~ Glad to hear you like the Cali Grill! I'm a little nervous b/c we won't be able to do a tasting, we just have to choose from the group menus. But I'm sure it will be fine! ::yes:: I'm just excited we made our decision! Also, glad to hear you didn't get any snow!!!:cheer2:
