Crown Princess Lists Heavily; Heads Back to Port
(5:45 p.m.) -- This just in: Princess Cruises' Crown Princess, which departed Port Canaveral today at 3:40 p.m., experienced an unexpected list to the port side as it was sailing north to New York. The ship is expected to return to its dock at Port Canaveral within minutes.

Cruise Critic member Elizabeth Perna rang Cruise Critic to report the incident. She had just spoken by cell phone with her mom, Theresa Plaskon-Angelou, who is onboard. According to Perna, Plaskon-Angelou said she was "taking a nap and everything just started flying off the dresser. She fell into the sliding glass door but was not injured."

In a statement from Princess, the ship listed "when it experienced problems with its steering equipment." There are injuries though she could not provide more details at this time.

Stay tuned to Cruise Critic throughout the night as we'll be updating our news as the situation warrants.

Cruise Critic members who happen to be onboard or on land near the port are posting observations. Among them:

Thanks to doggfan7 for this onboard report: "This was probably the scariest moment I have ever experienced. The water came up to the Promenade Deck and actually almost hit the lifeboats. We have heard that the rear and port side of the ship were fairly well in the air.

"The stairwells turned into waterfalls. The gift shops and casino turned into glass and chip graveyards.

"The dining room right now is full of injured people and passenger doctors and nurses are doing whatever they can to help.

"The 5th deck seems to catch the worst as there is blood all over the place. I saw a man with a broken foot hobble to the dining room bloody and crying and kids screaming. The internet cafe is crowded with people booking flights home from Florida as they do not want to stay on.

"I came on here primarily to see if anybody had loved ones on the ship and hadn't heard from them or were scared. I will check back and see if I can see if they are alright.

"It is very scary and we do not know how long we will be in Port Canaveral.

"About an hour before it happened, the captain said we were going into rough waters and that they turned the stabilizer on so it could be. They said the steering mechanism locked though.

"We will be in port in about 5 minutes they said and they have ambulances waiting for those seriously injured, and believe me there are quite a few. I had typed an account of the worst injury I have heard of a little girl but just erased it as it is too sad and gross, let's just say we all need to pray for this little girl who needs to be in a hospital in the next 5 minutes."

SeaBrz is ashore and says: "It's a little crazy out here in Cape Canaveral. Lots of helicopters, mostly news that I can see, but some red/white ones (Coast Guard?). Was told by a port worker that 20 ambulances were requested, four pumper trucks, and other assorted emergency vehicles. As posted above, according to the news (Channel 2) the Coast Guard needs to establish that the ship is controllable before they will let it into Port since it's supposedly listing at 12 degrees. Not sure what the option is."

Nliedel offers this chilling account. "Regarding injuries. People are badly injured. They called, "Alpha, Alpha, Alpha." They have closed the medical center to all but serious injuries and opened a satellite medical center. Carol is posting under my name, so it's not all just me posting.

"We have no idea what will happen. There is glass everywhere. Some people were hit by TV's falling off the shelves. There are some very severe cuts that I personally saw. The crew is very busy and people are panicking in life vests. Carol says some crew panicked and handed out life vests. They did not call the muster drill.

"Did I say Titanic is the MUTS movie tonight? That's some irony for you."

More from Nliedel (Carol): "Deborah, also one of our Cruise Critic group, was in an elevator when it happened. She's still shaking. CaroleLee was naked on a massage table in the Lotus Spa. As the ship listed, the equipment table next to her went sliding, and her table traveled about 15 feet across the corridor into a treatment room across the way. All of the Lotus Spa Pool is now in the Lotus Spa.

"All of the pools are pouring down the aft staircase and aft elevator shafts.

"The contents of the gift shops are all over the floors, mostly smashed. The contents of the bars are on the floors, and equipment is leaning or fallen.

"There is broken glass everywhere and many people are injured. There are children crying, and some passengers were handed life jackets by crew members. This just made them more upset.

I see people limping, bloody feet and other cuts. Most of the people that we know have wandered by and we know that they're ok. We are sitting outside the Explorers Bar."

I just captured this pic on the port cam, I'm "guessing" this is the ship Terry shared about above.

Here is another pic, looks like the port cam is following the ship up the channel.

Good Morning Everyone :wave2:

This morning so far it is rather nice outside. I better get my dog walking in now that it is a bit cooler. The weather is supposed to be cooler today high of 92, better then the 100 degrees here yesterday. There is a tropical storm brewing which the weather forcasters are saying we may get some rain if it heads up the east coast.

Doreen - I am so glad that you had a nice birthday, your package should arrive today!!!

Five weeks from today we will be in Costa Maya!!! I can't wait!

Terry - how is the new job going?

I saw the Princess cruise ship on the news. I hope there were no serious injuries and I also hope that Princess took good care of their passengers!

Talk to you later!!

And one month from today, we will be sailing away!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Thoughts and prayers to all those injured, and all those who were traveling, on the Crown Princess. :wizard:

Terry, thank you for the report. Please God everyone is ok. I'm sure it was a very scary thing to happen, especially on something so big.

Andy, Yes one month or 31 days exactly and we will be boarding the ship... cannot WAIT!!! Thanks for the pictures too, I never knew they looked so big! We don't have any skyscrapers in Ireland so we are not used to REALLY big buildings/ships etc..

Doreen, glad I made it on the day.. and it soundslike you enjoyed it! Look after yourself...

Susan, how is the bride to be? All excited I bet!

Jen, thanks for the wine update.. the only thing stopping me is that we are on early dining and it would mean drinking at 6pm.. now there have been plenty of ocassions where I have started even earlier but I don't want to be asleep by 9! So I may hold off on it until we get there and play it by ear (is this an expression ye use??).

Weather good here again today, can't believe it. The UK is due to reach 39 degrees today, we are down for 30 degrees.

Have a nice day everyone...Moira.

Doreen, is this the page you saw mentioned?? I just copied this from the DCL web site:

Family Reunion

Make your Disney cruise a Family Reunion you'll never forget. Pose for a once-in-a-lifetime photo in matching Disney Cruise Line® Family Reunion T-shirts. Take home a keepsake 8x10 leather photo portfolio and commemorative certificate. On board, you'll receive:

Personalized Disney Cruise Line family reunion T-shirt (one per person)

Leather photo portfolio with 8x10 photo (one per stateroom)

Commemorative Disney Cruise Line family reunion certificate (one per person)

How to Book
To add this package to a new cruise reservation, go to Reservations and add the package from the Customize Cruise page of the Reservations process. Package must be purchased by all guests in the same stateroom and can be added or removed up to 30 days prior to sailing.

To add this package to an existing reservation, please call Disney Cruise Line® at (800) 951-3532† or contact your travel agent.

Price: Add $49* per person for the first two Guests and $19* for each additional Guest in the same stateroom to any 3-, 4-, or 7-night Disney Cruise Line® package.

It doesn't mention a special banquet, only a t-shirt, photo, and certificate. It's $49. per person (except for the third and fourth people in the same stateroom). The 4 of us have 2 cabins so it'd cost us $200 for this.

If it does include a special banquet that ALL of us who are interested in can go to, then I'd consider it.

Or is there a different reunion package other than this one?? :confused3 It's a great idea, but it'd only be worth it to me if it does include all of the above plus a banquet. :)

The job is still going very well! :goodvibes Surprisingly. lol I really dreaded going back to work but the reality of it has been quite different, in a good way. If I have to work somewhere, then I'm very glad that I found that exact job. :smooth:

Yesterday they sent someone out for iced coffees in the morning, then in the afternoon someone went out for ice cream for everyone. :teeth: Oh, and it's not ME that they're sending out. lol The ladies in HR are the ones who went.

Last week I brought in my high school yearbook because one of the ladies in HR absolutely LOVES Jon Bon Jovi, and she wanted to see his picture in my yearbook (For those who don't know, I went to high school with him). She was so funny, she photocopied the page and everything. :lmao:

John is off from work today because he has a doctor's appointment this morning and he just brought me a cup of French vanilla coffee in my Grand Floridian mug :surfweb: A nice way to start the day. And I have about an hour before I have to leave for work.

Have a great day everyone :sunny:

PS Has anyone ordered the wine package? Don't know enough about it but I know I'd like to enjoy some!

We did the wine package on our last DCL cruise. It was fairly good. There was a decent selection of wines and it was only somewhat over-priced. Then again, I'm a real bargain hunter.

As someone noted, the wine will follow you around to the different dining rooms.

Since we have a large selection of wines at home we are just going to bring a few bottles with us, pour a glass for dinner and bring it to the dining room. Plus you can pour another glass near bedtime! :drinking1

Doreen & Daniel - I wont be going to Grillz so you can just look for me at the pool. My DD has school until 4 PM and then its probably close to 2 hours from my house to the Radisson. I just want to double check with Bob that nothing else is going on that weekend before I fully commit. I would love to see everyone and I know my kids would enjoy seeing friends they have cruised with before.

Doreen...Happy Birthday...even if it is a day late...hope you had a great day. Was your daughter working at Steve Madden at Carousel Mall on Friday? I took a surprise day off and we decided to take a ride to Syracuse's Carousel Mall and the first store that my DD headed for was Steve Madden and she laid down a small fortune for a pair of shoes...but she was thrilled because she got a free pair of Steve Madden flip flops! I asked someone there if they knew you but looked at me like I had three heads (I think that I asked the manager maybe)--just thought that it would have been funny if your daughter waited on my DD!! Boy was it hot in that mall with the sun beating down on the glass domes!

Moira...what town were you originally from so that when I see Sarah's former teacher, I can mention it (I remember you said that you grew up 12 miles from her town). I think Ms. O'Shea was from Thule??

Much cooler here today! My central air has really been working overtime! I guess this weather will prepare us for hot and sticky Mexico!

DORI.. glad to see you posting again.. I bet you and DEVIN are so excited to be cruising again... How did his grades end up after all..lol JUST KIDDING.. :teeth:

Glad to be back, although I am still working 60 hours week and have to 'steal time' to read and post. It's getting too close and I want to be up-to-date on everyone when we hit the ship.

Devin actually ended up making a nice save on his social studies grade. He got an A- fourth quarter, so things averaged out to a C+. He's showing some ambition and initiative too. He's taking PE in summer school right now so he can take two full-year electives next year. He's planning on continuing in band (been playing the flute for about 5 years now) and he wants to start taking Japanese. It was all his idea and I've already told him how proud I am of him for thinking ahead and making the needed sacrifice this summer. He gets out of school a week before we leave for the cruise.

Just wait until you guys see how much he has grown in the last two years. On the last cruise he was just past my chin. Now he's within an inch or so of being just as tall as I am. I have to take him out here in a couple of weeks and see about getting him a new suit for the cruise, he finally outgrew the old one this last winter.

Well, I better get back to work. My break is over.

Dori :badpc:

Walsh Clan,

My memory on the wine packages is that the selection was heavy towards California wines and not as many international wines as I had hoped. You maybe had one or two selections of German, Italian, French, Australian, etc.

So if you want to try different Californian wines then the wine package would be good.

I believe every night at dinner there is a recommended wine to go with the meal that you can order by the glass. That might be a better way to go rather than buying full bottles.

And sometimes your servers can make wine recommendations. On one DCL cruise our server was from Hungary and he recommended a Hungarian wine that was fabulous.

Hi Guys,

Feeling a bit sore right now, thanks to a boxer/lad mix dog that decided he wanted a chunck of me this morning as I was reading meters.

The owner said don't worry, he's friendly, he won't bite. No sooner were the words out of his mouth, then chomp, the dog jumped at me and bit me in the chest. I went to the township doc to get checked out, the doc said I had three punture wounds. The area was cleaned out and treated with oinment, and I was also given a prescription for an antibiotic, which I dropped off at CVS to be filled on my way home. The doc also gave me some pain meds which I just had to take because this is really starting to hurt now.

I have to go back and turn in papers at work from the doc and go give my accident report to the police so they can follow up and make sure the dog has had all his shots and the dog's license are up to date.

So, how has everyone else's day been???

Andy, you poor thing!! I hope that dogs has had all of it's shots. Unbelievable that the owner let it run loose and thought it wouldn't bite!! Will he be fined, at the very least??? I imagine the township will cover all of your bills, afterall this happened in the line of duty!

I hope you feel better soon.

Doreen or Bev or Mary Rose:

What is the special right now for LS? Is it Buy 1 and get 1 half off? Or buy 2 and get 1 half off? Or buy 1 and get 2 half?? I'm sorry, I don't remember! LOL I want to give my order to Bev tonight, so please let me know! Thanks :sunny:
