Calling All 8/19/06 Special Western Cruisers! AKA "The Cruisin' Castaways" Part 2

Hi All,

Just arrived home from seeing my orthopaedic surgeon. It has been six weeks since my last cortisone injection and I've been having some trouble with my knee the past few days. The pain was so bad last night that I had to take one of my Tylenol 3 pills just so I could get some sleep. Anyhow, the doc gave me another cortisone shot today and wants to see me in six weeks (June 28th). The exam today revealed that I have possible damage to the inside of my right knee cap, which "might" require more surgery. That's the last thing I wanted to hear right now. I just had this knee operated on in May 2004. The doc feels as though he may need to go in with the scope and scrape the inside of my knee cap. When I informed him of all the curb meters I have to read, and that I use my right knee to kneel on, he nearly had a coronary on me. I told him the reason I use my right knee so much is because of having the partial knee replacement on my left knee, I didn't want to take the chance of doing any damage to that knee, to which he agreed!!! I told the doc I can retire in five years, he then said to me......"You'll make it!!!"

So guys, if I wind up having surgery this summer, we might have to canel our trip to WDW this August. The saga continues!!!

nooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo
hoping all goes well - Andy you cannot cancel August
feel better now - you dont want surgery

Andy: That stinks ! Sending PD and good vibes your way for no surgery. :wizard: :goodvibes

Barb: What did you decide to do for Jonathan's birthday? My Jonathan is turning 15 on June 1st. I am kinda stumped. We are getting him a electrical guitar. He has wanted one for ever. Oh my ears :rockband: I still want to do something special for him :confused3

Sue: Maybe Jonathan and Vicki can get together for a jam session. :rotfl:

Linda: How are things you way? Hope things are calmer for you.

I saw that the pins from the repo cruise are already being sold on ebay. I feel bad for the people who just want a memento and couldn't get one. :sad2: Tina

Now that I have really got your attention I am ready to come clean :flower:

After some debate and frank discussions Tim and myself decided to cancel the cruise.

We did this for several reasons but the biggest one being how guilty we felt not taking the boys along. I know several of you have done/ are going to leave them behind; it is just for us it was not the right thing to do.

BUT instead we will be returning to WDW in either June or August of 2006 for a week as a family.

We are pleased with this decsion and are now greatly looking forward to a/the vacation again.

Many thanks to Andy for "listening" to me while we tried to make up our mind.

Also thanks to all who either sent messages or just good thoughts when my father had his accident and while Bryan was ill.

Will miss meeting you in August. Will stay subscribed to the thread to keep in touch with you to see how it all goes.

:goodvibes Enjoy your cruise!

Tim, Mary, Kyle and Bryan

So sorry you won't be joining us Mary, but as a parent, I completely understand where you are coming from!!! As I said before, we went through the same agonizing torment a few months ago. Maybe we'll meet up in August 2006 at WDW before or after the cruise, you never know!!!

Mary: Sorry you won't be joining our group. I am sure it was a difficult decision. Maybe another cruise with family? ;) Tina

ok guys - no more bad news, ok?

Jonathan had a quiet birthday this past Sun. He received a few new PS2 games (or bought w/birthday $) so he spent part of the day playing his new games. We went out to Wright's Chicken farm at his request. He wanted an ice cream cake so of course we had to get one - lol. It was a good day.

I booked Chef Mickey's for this Aug and told them we're celebrating DSs birthday. Will also inform Cape May, Donald's and Crystal Palace. Hey, so what if its 90 days later?

I just read over on the restaurant board that Trails End is difficult to get a large party into (even if going through Grp Dining). Would there be a backup possibility while I have disney dining on the phone? or should Bev & I just report back here and wait?

IMPORTANT DISMEET ALERT!

Ive been PMing w/Bev. The 2 of us will be on the phone at 657am (557 for Bev?) Sat morn. We'll try to get 6pm PS for Trails End. If we need to get the first PS time for the day it will need to be 430pm as thats their opening time.

IF that doesnt work out for both of these PSs - we can then plan on grabbing pizza & ? at Trails End takeout, find a piece of grass and have our DISmeet outside under a shady tree or two. Are there public picnic tables or just at individual campsites?
What do you guys think?

Well we all could try to call and get our own PS, in addition to you and Bev trying to get the group tables,

This way we all could request 6pm time, while it wouldnt be at one or two tables, I suppect we could all find tables close to one another.

If you report later in day the group is set, them we could cancel.

I have to believe it wouldnt be hard for all of us to get 6pm ps, but a large table could be a problem.

Mary, sorry you wont be joining us, but I can totaly understand. We haven't taken a trip yet where Caitlin didn't come with us.

All the best, glad you will still be following this thread and cheering us along.

I'm dropping by for a quick hello before turning in for the night.

I think maybe Ed's idea might be the best choice right now, of course I'm so heavily medicated right now, any idea sounds real good, LOL!!!

I'll check back in tomorrow and see what is going on.

Night All :faint:

Andy - sorry to hear that you might need knee surgery. Hope you don't need it. I'm looking forward to finally meeting you and your family in August.

I flying to Chicago this weekend but I will still call for the PS. (It's 1 hour time change) I will not have access to a computer until I return home Sunday afternoon. I gave Barb my cell phone number. I'll try for 6pm first or 430pm. If not, I'll bring the wine and you can bring the cheese and we'll all have our own party. lol

Any changes, please let me know by 630 am Saturday morn.

I'm looking forward to meeting everyone.

Andy: I'm sorry that your right knee is causing you so much pain right now :( I really hope that the doctor won't have to operate so you can go on your August trip, and also because hopefully it's not in as bad of shape as he thinks it might be. Hang in there!

Mary: I'm really sorry that you won't be cruising with us, you'll be missed. But believe me, I totally understand how you are feeling. In fact, if you remember, I recently cancelled the Royal Caribbean cruise that DH and I were going to be going on next month, without DSs. We ended up cancelling due to the snow days, and then we decided to do a FAMILY trip to Disney World instead, and I have to say, as much as I was looking forward to that cruise (9 night caribbean cruise, leaving from NJ, which meant no flying!), I am SOOOO happy that we're taking this family trip instead. I hope that you and your family have a wonderful time in Disney World next summer :sunny:

Bev: Have a safe trip to Chicago. I hope you can enjoy the Bar Mitzvah, even though it will be bitter sweet.

I woke up just after 4am wide awake, that's what happens when you go to bed at 9pm, LOL!!! Now, I'm trying to catch up on all my messages. I had an e-mail that was sent to me from a CM on the Magic. It simply stated, "It's crazy here on the ship, check the DISboards." My reply was, "I've been checking the "Live from the Magic" thread several times a day, and it sure does sound like it is crazy on the ship." Maybe this is one cruise I'm glad we aren't on, LOL!!!

I'm still thinking maybe it might be best if we try Ed's idea for the meet this August. Have each family make a ressie for themselves in smaller groups, and Barb and Bev still try for the two larger group ressies. If the larger group ressies can't work out, at least we will have the smaller group ressies and try to hook up at Trail's End at 6pm, eat dinner, then we can get together after eating dinner. We were talking about going over to the campfire after dinner, is that still doable? So, I take it, that this Saturday morning is when we need to call to make the ressies for Trail's End. I've never called for PS before. We are staying in a FW Cabin, and will be doing most of our dining in the cabin this trip. I hope I didn't sound to confusing!!! LOL!!!

thank you
So the "final decision" is to get us all in TE (whether small or large tables)
ppl will be PSing their own tables (in case they're needed) to ensure we are all in the dining room, (so when those phone lines are busy Sat morn we'll know why! ackkkk - DISers!)
6pm seems more important than the large table since we'll all hopefully be in the dining room
we're hanging around Ft Wilderness after dinner anyways so will have more time for chitchat

I know Jon & I need to be back to the boat dock by 930 (last boat to WL 10pm). Is it easy enough to find our way back from the campfire?

Bev: Have a safe trip to Chicago. Yes bittersweet. I am glad you are able to go. :grouphug:

Barb: Good luck to you & Bev on getting those reservations ! :wizard:

Andy: I was thinking the same thing last night. :teeth: I am kinda glad I am not on the May repo cruise. I really do hope things get straight for the Aug. cruise.

Ed: I wish I could go to WDW and meet up with everyone. At least you will have a Disney fix. :rolleyes1

Have a great day everyone. :sunny: Tina

I will contact Mike (Credit Man) and let him know what we are doing, this way he can call and get a ressie at the TE for his family of four.

Sue, since you are coming in from England, I will add you and Vickie to our ressie for now, you were going to be in with the ressie for 12 anyhow, so this shouldn't be a problem. Hey, maybe I can use this trip as part of my physical therapy, LOL!!!

Barb--it's very easy to get from the campfire to the locking dock at FW. I'm sure they also run buses from FW to WL.

This is sooo much fun! I love making PSs! Just got off the phone and booked Kona brkfst & Liberty Tree Tavern late lunch. Already have PSs for Whispering Canyon arrival day lunch and brkfst another day. Have PS for Chef Mickey brkfst and Rainforest/DD dinner. Tomorrow I get to book SciFi lunch and Plaza dinner.
Jon & I hopped onto someone's Wishes cruise. The DIS family posted yesterday that they booked a cruise going from the Wilderness Lodge and I asked if they have room for 2 more!

have a great day everyone

Sound like you have as much fun as I had with makeing our PS for Aug 5-13.
I have to start on our Aug 18-22 stay this weekend too.

Well at least for our cabin trip the first half, I know have a electric cart to get around on :rotfl2:

Where did you see The DIS family posting. I was thinking of posting we have some room on our cruise. So far for our wishes cruise its just the 3 of us on Aug 6th.

someone posted about their cruise on the theme parks board yesterday
so that would be a good start

Uhoh just heard we "may" have a 20% paycut this summer. On the 1 hand it "may" mean having Mondays off but on the other hand Id have to find a place to cut back about $500 from this Aug vacation. I budgeted about $250 for shopping and about $150 for drinking. I might just bring the 2L bottle of coconut rum I already bought and not buy drinks?! I do find I overbudget on meals and have plenty to move around. I just like going w/a plan! lol
