Yesterday Disney shut down California Screaming when a rider actually pulled out a selfie stick with a camera at the end.

It seems some people are all about ME....ME........ME and have absolutely no interest in how another rider or guest or CM in the park could have been seriously injured if the camera broke free or the rider lost their hold on the stick and it all flew away and hit someone.

What ever happened to using a little common sense!

Time to get the sticks out of the parks all together, not just have the rule saying no selfie sticks on the rides and not fully enforce it.

Folks .................be alert and carefull!

I don't understand the whole selfie fad, I seriously don't want to see pictures of myself that close up (or even far away for that matter). I don't mind the sticks if people are trying to get above other people's heads for the standing shows or fireworks so much but even then they do tend to obstruct others views. I'm so short I don't get to see those things anyway since usually if I manage to get behind kids some adult will decide to get in front of me. I agree, while everyone is there to enjoy themselves, try to have some thought for the other people around you and rules are rules for a reason.

I'm guessing this person just wanted to capture their Disney ride experience like millions have done with handheld camcorders. Only problem was the stupid idea to use a selfie stick which isn't secure and dangerous.

...and full disclosure (I am not a fan of selfie sticks in general)

Hi Dan.

Frankly the reason doesn't matter, it he fact some people using these thing are not using common sense and risking other peoples safety.

Isn't Disney promoting the "me, me, me" mentality? It is MY Disney Experience after all.

This person should have had the selfie stick taken from them and given a colonoscopy with it.

I can't STAND them and wish they would be banned completely!

Twice on our Disney World trip a few weeks ago I got very rude about it but I don't care. Once was at Wishes, we were standing in the street about at the Starbucks. As soon as the Celebrate the Magic show started, EVERYONE around us whipped them out. It was horrible, we couldn't see a thing except through their screens. I rather rudely informed everyone in a 15 foot radius that there were a million videos just like theirs on You Tube and that I would like to watch the show with my own eyes, not through their screen. Several people did put them away then (probably since I ruined their video, hehe) and with some creative shifting we were able to at least get the kids in our party positioned to see Wishes in person.

Same trip was at Fantasmic. Guy in front of us had some selfie stick contraption for his tablet. Never saw something like that but it was HUGE. Again watching the show through his screen no matter how we shifted (it was full of course so not much room). I asked him twice to put it away with no luck. Finally went and got a CM who asked him and he did then but we missed half the show.

Its one thing to take a quick picture but I don't understand the obsession with filming this stuff!

I don't get it either. I've seen people filming things like Nemo and the Voyage of the LM and BaTB. Basically anything they can film, they will.

You can watch everything on YouTube at this point, why does everyone need their own personal copy of it? Why can't people just experience it as it is happening?
