Calendars As Gifts

We use the calendars on our phones, but also like to have one hanging in the kitchen too. And I like to have one on my desk. Usually we get two or three freebie ones from various places. They're not ordinarily given as gifts, but this year stepD gave me a B&W Marilyn Monroe calendar. Not sure why, since I don't think I ever mentioned MM in front of her. But I'm not complaining, since the January photo is of her in a bubble bath, with the bubbles barely covering her naughty bits. :)

I used to get my mother a calendar with dogs every year, she expected it. :rotfl: I got her other stuff too, but that was just a staple of the season.

No, we get about three or four of them in the mail from The Humane Society and ASPCA every year.

I get the the little desktop calendars (the ones with a page for each day that you tear off) for my employees every year. They seem to like them, and actually use them.

I have no need for a wall or a desk calendar, and haven't for years. I am looking for a good notebook type planner with more than a tiny space for each day though. I would have asked for it for xmas, but didn't know I wanted it until I saw it on Pinterest the other day. LOL
Every year my company buys one of those expensive DayTimer planners for all 1,000+ employee and has them delivered to our offices. I'm actually surprised they bother, since our IT budget is astronomical and we're not encouraged to do anything unnecessary "on paper" anymore. Maybe 1 out of 10 people use them and personally, since I'm loath to throw them away - I've got the last 6 or 7 shoved in my credenza somewhere with the cellophane wrapper still on.

My parents have given me and my sister a new calendar every Christmas for as long as I can remember. I honestly don't have any use for it since I use my own planner for work, but I like the tradition of getting one. Plus they usually get me a calendar with good pictures and know would be something I would like, so I enjoy hanging it up and looking at the pictures throughout the year, even if I don't use it to look up the date.

When my boys were younger (they're 18 & 20 now) I use to get them each a wall calendar to hang in their room. I haven't bought them for maybe the past 2-3 years though. This year my oldest asked for one for Christmas. So I searched for a Trans Am calendar (he bought a Trans Am when he was 15 and now has a second one). I did find a couple that he might like but then came upon a site that you can add your own photos. So I went onto his Facebook photos and got all his personal pics of his cars and made the calendar. HE LOVED IT.

I like paper calendars. I have one in the kitchen and one above my desk. Each of the kids has one in their rooms, and DH has one above his desk in his office. I think DD has a desk calendar as well. As much as I LOVE my phone, I still need a paper calendar. I organize myself much better on paper, I think the act of writing things down helps me remember them. In addition to my wall calendar, I have an Erin Condren Life Planner, and I carry it with me almost everywhere. If things don't get written down in there, I will NEVER remember them.

My sister usually gives me a calendar - this year it was Vintage Disney pictures. I already have a Disney Parks calendar hanging in the kitchen. I just can't rely on my phone, I like to have the month at a glance.

I have saved the calendars going back to the 80's as a diary of sorts. They tell quite a tale of our lives as a busy family with 2 boys. Then when my mom moved in with us in 2000, all of her appts are listed. It's really interesting to look back at the activities over the years.

We hang our school calendar each year.

I do give a Thomas Kinkade to the in-laws each year. They like to hang it in their kitchen.

Exactly. No so much for calendars, but I've saved most of my date minder booklets from 30+ years ago, and still do. They don't take up much room at all, and they're good for reminiscing. Maybe twice a year I'll rummage through them for a few hours. OK, there is a LOT of boring stuff, but many good memories as well. I did save a few calendars too, mostly for the photos.

In college and as a young adult, I maintained budget ledgers, listing income and expenses. I've kept a few of them as well, since they also acted as a diary of sorts.

My DGM (who died at 103 a few years ago) kept one of those calendars that had room for about six lines of writing per day in it. Every day for *decades* she would jot down a few notes. When she passed away, no one wanted them, but I took them just for laughs. Every once in a while I will open one at random and say, "Did you know that on this date in 1995 we had a huge snowstorm but my brother took my grandmother for her hair appointment anyways" :). There's always something amusing/interesting/funny...

And I still keep a paper "family planner" in my purse for all my jottings, too old school even with a smartphone!

I have just over a year before I retire. We just did a professional photo shoot with our daughter/son in law/1-year old granddaughter.

So daughter gave me a calendar to use as a countdown calendar and it has one of the pics from our photo shot (of me, DH and the baby) on it. I love it!

I must really be odd...........I have so many calendars and use them all! I even asked Santa for a calendar - a specific one though from Chick-fil-a because not only is it cute but there is free food involved every month - the price of the treats is far more than the price of the calendar. I also like cute ones for room decorations and have them in 2 rooms, another one on my door going to the garage so I can glance at it as I leave every day to see what day it is LOL, a desk calendar beside my computer and a "planner" that is kept in my purse and is used many times a day! If I were to lose that planner I would be up a creek without any hope of surviving. I don't have a smart phone so I don't have the option of putting all my information in that, and the cell phone I use takes a lot more work to program things in to it, its just easier and faster to put in in my planner!

We also use our digital calendars. The one in the kitchen is more for posting birthdays and anniversary dates etc... But the thing I hate is that there is not one standard calendar size. It seems like every company makes them different, which is a problem when your wife has one of those fancy pants wood calendar holders. Then you see the "perfect" calendar for her and she LOVES it, then you realize it wont fit in the holder no matter how much you trim and cut it :(
