Cake Bake Shop at the BoardWalk is now open

I can appreciate the $150 for chicken tenders view, and I can also appreciate my view that places value in the overall experience/event element to it - a night to get a little dressed up at WDW around the holidays, good opportunities for family holiday photos (the elusive perfect holiday card family photo is always high on my wife's priority list), a dinner experience in a unique setting, etc. I have a teen and tween - the years of us all being together around the holidays and being able to take such WDW trips are down to single digits. The time and experiences spent together have a high value to me. We're fortunate to be able to travel to WDW a few times each year and tend to enjoy the 'something different' offerings around property.

Crazy to some, and not to others, like much of life. One thing I've always enjoyed about WDW is the wide array of ways to experience whatever it is we all individually seek.

Not really apples to apples offerings of course, but it is in terms of decisions to spend money on an 'upcharge' offering, we had a big 'night out' last holiday season where we got dressed up, had dinner at Yachtsman Steakhouse, followed by the Jollywood Nights event at DHS (which combined was more $ than this) and had a total blast. We've been debating doing that again but were unsure if a second time would lose its luster a bit. In my thinking at least, I could see us substituting our Jollywood Nights evening for something like this as more of our 'big night out' experience this year.

Here's hoping my wait list spot comes through. :wizard:

I understand the feeling. Hesitantly booked Geo 82’s firework package for Thanksgiving and did that give me agita!
Still, I do enjoy the Luminous display.

Have fun whatever you choose to do

Agreed! After thinking it over, we ended up booking it. Exactly for the reasons you mentioned. We are skipping the Santa dinner in our area which is a little less than this one and doing CBS instead.

Hope you get your waitlist spot!

For what it's worth, my husband and I had a dinner at the Cake Bake Shop last July. The decor is imaginative and very pretty. I had a salad, and it was huge. We bought a piece of Millionaire cake to take back to our resort, and shared it for two days. It was very good. The restaurant is expensive, and it sounds as though the special event is even more expensive. I think it will be fun for people who decide to try it

Regarding cancellation risk due to sickness: a decent travel cc should provide coverage for a 'covered reason' if you needed to cancel last minute. I think the 'no refunds' thing is partly due to the risk of buyer's remorse here, and also it's probably harder to fill a last minute opening @ $1,000 vs a TS $200.

I don't know if cc covers Dinner with Santa.
Chase did NOT cover MVMCP. Tickets including sports and concerts are NOT covered

I looked and the cc insurance is limited to prepaid expenses made to common carriers and tour operators. Good to know. Better to purchase a separate comprehensive policy that covers prepaid expenses such as this.

Travel Insurance limits coverage to specific expenses. Coverage is generally offered for trip cancellation, delay or interruption.

Your kid has an upset stomach the morning of your dinner. Your trip isn't interrupted. Don't assume coverage.

You might have coverage if you have to cancel your trip for a covered reason. Carefully read the list of covered expenses before assuming coverage

CBS may chose to work with you. Mom died. We're canceling our trip. Please work with us.

Yes, I would assume you need (dr.) documentation in order to be reimbursed for a covered reason on insurance, not, "I didn't feel good". Disney is very accommodating when someone dies. btdt

Trip insurance generally covers expenses related to trip cancellation, trip delay and trip interruption.

I'm not sure missing a meal will qualify for coverage.

It might if you had to cancel your trip, arrive late or leave early.
A few policies might pay others not.

Customers are relying on the possibility of goodwill exceptions by CBS.

Edited to add people think trip insurance covers more then it does. People way over estimate the value of credit card insurance.

If someone gets sick or injured while on a covered trip, and needs to see a doctor, and gets a diagnosis that they must cancel whatever, I think that would fall under trip interruption, and a doctor's visit, medications, and any non-refundable prepaid event expenses would be covered. It's not about 'missing a meal', it's about being covered for a prepaid expense for a valid reason. As always, ymmv and one should read their policy's t&c before purchasing.

Posters should assume this information is wrong. Triple check your policy before assuming your policy is an exception.

Trip interruption typically required cutting your trip short. See the doctor, get your note then go home.

A general question about this restaurant: is getting a reservation always this hard?

Admittedly, until recently, I have not paid attention to the availability at this restaurant in the year since it opened. I had assumed that the price point would deter a lot of visitors from wanting to dine there. But I recently tried to get a ressy for a family trip in December. Nothing available during any day of our trip. Each day I check just to see what may have become available anytime and all I have seen is the rare first or last seating of the day pop up as available (and still not on any dates I want). So, what's the deal? Is the place just that popular? Or is the dining area small without many tables? A combination of both? Just curious, as I have not even been inside. Thanks

The easy trick is use Open Table for reservations at Cake Bake.

I'd rather they let people tip as they like, but I'm sure most would not be tipping at those levels. Maybe Santa gets a cut. :wizard:
But this isn't tipping, it's a mandatory fee. It'd be like calling Ticketmaster fees "ticket agent gratuities".

Yes there is a Bar but I don’t think it has barstools.
They have smaller tables in this bar area . I would guess possible 8 all together as they are in a Lshape along the wall . So the Bar is kinda separate area but not .
The Gazebo is in the middle of the restaurant and the Bar seating does not have a view of the Gazebo , I don’t think. Unless the wall has an opening behind the tables.
I haven’t been back since last year for holidays but it is really pretty for dining .
I remember thinking next time I would want to be seated in the Bar area and would request it.
Grab any reservation you can get .
They also have their bakery with glass display cases next door to just lookat all the cakes ! Usually a line to enter .
They serve lattes and cappuccino from a machine with your cake order to go and eat out front tables… Also expensive

There are a few different seating areas - the 'bar' does have bar seating - high chairs with backs, and also tables alongside the bar. The main dining room with the chandelier, and the wraparound 'garden' seating (it's indoor, glassed in, but separate from the main room), and two separate lounge areas also split off from the main room. There's a private dining area too.
