Cake Bake Shop at the BoardWalk is now open

My (friendly) counterpoint to this is that while the style may not be traditional "boardwalk," it does feel feel very reminiscent of Victorian style shore towns in NJ like Cape May or Spring Lake.
Disney's BoardWalk was modeled on turn of the 20th century seaside towns, think the boardwalks in Cape May, NJ and Coney Island as Disney Imagineers thought it might be...

While it started out as affordable Beach Side area it has not lasted since 1996. Now they have the pricing of Martha's Vineyard with Flying Fish and now CBS. I can't wait to see what happens with the BRG location and now Dueling Pianos (rumored to be leaving in 2025).

For those who have eaten a meal here, how long was your visit? We have reservations before Jollywood Nights and I don't think I am cutting it close but this isn't typical Disney. We probably won't have cake since we will want to save room for treats later at night.

Has this place been filling up? I'm curious how it's being received in reality, versus what you read online.

Nice burger place. Choice of Wagyu, lamb or bison meat. A portobello mushroom burger for vegetarians.

I made that up. I think people hoping for a reasonably priced casual restaurant will be disappointed.

Some people want a casual, reasonably priced restaurant. Probability near zero, Earl of Sandwich or something like the old Wolfgangs Express might work

Edited to add..You want to go back to beach resort. Lobster Roll,.Chowder Fish N Chips

Well we should know early in January 2025 if Jelly Rolls Dueling Pianos is closing. It is operated by a third party and the rumor is that Disney will replace it with a Disney run Jazz Club. Maybe it can be completed much quicker than the conversion of ESPN to CBS.

I really want a reservation for breakfast for Christmas eve morning for my daughter's 16th birthday. I'm in the UK so calling could be expensive and open table is only showing reservations 6 days out.
I watched a vlog from the last couple of days and they were told reservations would be on mde in the next 2 - 3 weeks.
I do have a back up reservation for GF cafe, but I think CBS will be nicer ( and obviously more expensive!)

Dining reviews are so subjective and largely irrelevant from person to person so I hesitate to post, but had dinner at CBS last night so wanted to chime in with my two cents. While I have been following the fun commentary and banter on this thread, I really hadn’t read/paid much attention to blogs, etc as I wanted as clean an opinion as possible.

First off, I can fully appreciate off nights, bad nights, training, etc. One experience does not a restaurant make and I’ll give it a second chance, but of course first impressions are powerful.

Second, personally I think the prices are fine and generally consistent with vacation dining options or nicer restaurants in general. That part doesn’t bother me at all. But with price does come some level of expectation, for me at least.

Third, it was a busy Saturday night and the restaurant seemed full if not nearly full.

Fourth, I’m glad the reviews posted here seem to be more positive than mine, so that tells you it’s likely an anomaly, or me! You can take your pick.

Unfortunately we didn’t really love our experience, primarily due to the service. It was slow - 10 minutes for anyone to first come to the table, 60 minutes from ordering for entrees - some may like that kind of timing, but for us it was slow. Drinks, refills, and the general flow just seemed to take forever with a few “I think he forgot” moments throughout. Tables who were sat and ordered after us got their food before we did, making me wonder if there had not been some sort of technical error. I don’t totally mind if things drag, but at least an acknowledgment of some sort goes a long way.

Food wise, we got the Shrimp Remoulade app which was fine, but not a flavor or texture I appreciated. For entrees we had the gumbo and burger. All were fine (although the gumbo portion was a little small, in my opinion) but nothing we’d be clamoring to go back for.

A physical attribute of the restaurant I found interesting - we were seated in the “outer area” in a semi-circular room that faces the boardwalk. Tables in this room have glass tabletops whereas the rest of the restaurant looked like it had white tablecloth tables. This felt like a room I’d want to be in during the day for tea/lunch/brunch enjoying the views and good times with friends, not for a nice dinner. The room with the carousel and rest of the restaurant had more of a nicer dinner vibe, IMHO.

This is kind of picky. I know it’s the way of the world with many restaurants these days and is common in many parts of the world, but personally I don’t love the setup where servers enter your order on a device. Standing over our table for another 30-45 seconds after we order while you enter everything seems weird to me. Likely a training thing that improves over time one would think. And of course with this setup comes the hover while you pay/enter the tip (with the three obligatory % suggestions). I may be being too old school with this opinion, not sure.

Sadly, as we weren’t totally feeling the vibe and service, we didn’t order dessert. Probably missed the best part, I guess!

TLDR: Busy Saturday night dinner, service sub-par and perhaps a result of the newness of the operation, didn’t enjoy the setting of the “outer” room, food was fine. WDW has a lot better ‘elevated’ dinner options around property in my humble opinion, but I could see this being a solid brunch/lunch/tea/drink spot. I’ll give it a second chance.

I'd budget at least 1.5 hours. If you are going to have appetizers, dinner and a leisurely dessert, then 2 hours.

@GADisneyDad14 thanks for your first hand feedback on your dinner experience. I agree that all reviews are personal views and are impacted by each guest's specific experience and should consider day of visit, server, and food items selected. What time was your reservation? For example: before 6 PM or after 8 PM?

I am really not a fan of the order device process at the table but it does allow for queries or modification requests by guests at the table. The payment process is more of a 50% / 50% concern for me. I really don't look forward to the server disappearing with my credit card for 10-20 minutes while we just hold a table that could be turned for other guests.

Did you happen to notice if the tables that caught your attention ordered appetizers and main course or just a main course?

That is the "Enclosed" Patio and the windows are designed to be open when the weather is cooler. I am not sure it will work at the Boardwalk due the humidity even on cooler days but that is the design vibe they are looking for which resulted in the glass top tables without a white table cloth, and a more casual table.

When you have a time constraint you should share it with your server when they first stop at your table. We often ask to order or apps and mains at the same time and when they bring out the main entrees we ask for the bill.

.Having dinner before a concert or play...a good server will ask if you're going to XXX, offer to time your meal and will advise you if a menu item will take too long.

Speak up if you have time issues or if you're not in a rush and want to linger

Thanks for the review @GADisneyDad14. You’re always open minded & your reviews are unbiased & balanced, so I definitely value your views. I think it’s 1 thing for a casual place like Applebees to use those devices on the table, but not what I expect t a fine dining restaurant. I’m hoping there’s a paper bill & receipt, not just the device? I usually use gift cards & like the paper trail to keep track of spending. Did the room you were seated at have only parties of 2, or was it varied?

They seem to be playing with the Open Table bookings again. I check several times a day & it seems almost impossible to book for 2. A party of 2 is available 6 days out, party of 4 is 7 days out. I’ve been checking each date as it opens. Usually I notice a few early breakfast times, noting at all after maybe 7:45 am. As I check during the day, no other times open up. Late in the day, I’ll see a few 9:30 & 9:45 pm spots. If I switch to a party of 4, almost every time is available. Today, even for a party of 4, I have only seen a few very early breakfast times from 7 - 7:45 am, nothing for the rest of the day. Just a heads up.

The reviews have somewhat piqued my interest. But there are a few things holding me back. Getting to the Boardwalk is not the most fun experience. I love Crew's Cup and only venture there when I am at Disney for 10 plus days. There are just so many good options at Disney Springs that it does not seem like the effort is worth it. Because anything I would order off the menu I make at home.

I do have to admit if they were going to try to emulate the Jersey shore though, I would much rather have had an Uncle Bill's Pancake House instead of CBS, and a Peace Pie instead of Blue Ribbon Corn dogs 🤣 but that's just my personal preference.
I would be the first in line if Uncle Bill's opened there. A trip down the shore wouldn't be complete without Uncle Bill's 😍
And I had the same thought about CBS looking like it belonged in Cape May. The Jersey boardwalks are the only ones I know.

We had breakfast (something we don't have in Indy) at the Boardwalk location on the 1st via an Open Table reservation. There seemed to be plenty of available tables. service was good, and I'd say we were there an hour tops. My Eggs Benedict was the best I've ever had, served on a croissant instead of an English muffin. My friends (who had not been to Cake Bake before) gave a thumbs up to the chocolate chip Belgium waffles and plain waffles with sugar-free syrup for the diabetic in the party. They liked it so well that they made a reservation for their next trip.
