Cake Bake Shop at the BoardWalk is now open

Kind of strange how some people are vehemently defending $8 sodas and $18 PB&Js, almost like this place is some kind of a cult lol. I’m in no way a penny pinching Disney visitor. But this is just obscene. What could you possibly do to a kids PB&J to make it $18?! A SLICE of pie for $21?! I’ve eaten in gourmet restaurants in Paris that are much cheaper than this place. My mother’s French and I buy croissants regularly…$12 for ONE croissant? Insane. I spend lots of money at Disney and I get that there’s a Disney premium but this is beyond that. Not to mention the fact that Ive tried 2 of their cakes at a party once and they were very average. No better than any other cake at any other bakery. I’m assuming their other foods probably the same way. We won’t be eating here.
It comes with fries? so I guess its more of a PB& J Meal for $18??

Just to expand on something that someone alluded to 10 pages ago. Someone with experience at the other CBS locations said that it is a 2 hour dinning experience. I think that we all expect a "Disney markup" on everything but to have a dining experience that lasts 2 hours, that is extravagant and probably contributes to the high prices here. In order to make your budget in the restaurant business you have to optimize the number of table turns versus the revenue per seating. If there aren't many seatings, due to long stays, the price has to make up for that.

Counter point... many kids aren't sitting for a 2 hour meal. Especially when they are in Disney World with many other things to draw their attention.

If anything, that last 10 pages have made very clear that this won't be an experience for everyone.
Maybe but if you're building in Walt Disney World, families for sure have to be at the focal point of your business.

They may not be your target audience at the other locations. But they will be in WDW.
Yes, there are many adults like myself who travel to WDW without kids but we aren't the majority.

I'm pretty sure that Gwendolyn probably knows what she's doing. Either way, it's her business to decide what to do with it and how to run it. My point was simply to provide a possible reason why the prices are higher than other Disney restaurants and also her other properties.

It's funny that so many people are upset about a food service markup when most of them are already paying premiums to stay on or near Disney, then up to $249 per day per person to get into a park, then another $40 per person to not wait in line as long for a ride. When you think about it, the whole thing is pretty crazy...

(but I do it happily every year)

I was actually kinda looking forward to it. It has afternoon tea and it’s always nice to have some quality baked goods on property. I was prepared for high prices, but at some point you can’t claim “quality ingredients” or “rent” and it just becomes “cause we can price it that high”. I think they not only hit that threshold, but exceeded it with room to spare. 20 dollars for a bowl of soup at a place that doesn’t start with Victoria is a non starter for almost every human being I know.

I mean, people regularly complain about disney prices and value for dollar here. So that's not new at all LOL

I think Reagan was president when CBS first broke ground...
Maybe the delay in opening was due to Disney trying to get Gwendolyn to come to her senses before posting that menu.
It's still a free country & guests will spend as they choose.
But Boardwalk really needed a more accessible full service dining option than this will prove to be for many.
CBS is gorgeous & I will happily admire it as I stroll on by...

Your missing the point, it's about comparritives. Today disney ticket is (hopper) is 228 vs 199 for universal, disney you get 4 parks universal you get 2 so the value is at Disney. The disney lightning lane compared to even my crappy local theme park is about 55 less so again $40 not a bad price. The univers pass for the 1 ride option is $199 so again Disney wins on price. Tell me anywhere your getting a kids PBJ sandwich for more then $10 let alone $18. That's what people are complainng about.

Thankfully, no one is forcing anyone to patronize CBS and we can "disuss" how expensive it is on this forum ad nauseum...o_O

Coming back to this thread after it accidentally fell out of my new reply notifications for two weeks

this thread is 4 years old, posted on Indiana forum, and most locals were saying how overpriced CBS is, plus how the workers are mistreated. It also talks about how pricy it is, imagine if they knew the Boardwalk prices lol.

Like I said, value is subjective, but for most people (even Disney fanatics here), they are charging too much.

It was expensive there and there’s a 40-50% markup on the Disney location lol. Insane

I don’t think Gideons is overpriced at all, and that’s part of why they do so well. $6 for premium giant cookies and $9 for cake slice is pretty standard compared to high end bakeries in major cities.

And now that $9 looks really reasonable compared to $26 here (for a cake that doesn't actually look much better than Gideon's. I'd actually argue that Gideon's cakes look and taste better according to people who have tried both).

The desserts (including cake) at Disney's Signature Dining restaurants are in the $15-$17 range. CBS is pricing their desserts at a 40% premium above Disney's signature restaurants. I understand that the products are different, but that is still insane. I am a person who will drop $150 on myself to eat dinner at Topolino's and I LOVE just about any kind of cake, but even I have a limit and CBS has definitely exceeded it. There is other dessert/cafe/restaurant offerings available that are almost half the price. If this were the only option, then I can see where they could get away with $20+ for a slice of cake. Unfortunately, there are other dessert/cafe offerings on the property that are substantially cheaper. Even the "specialty cakes" that you can order at the restaurants are "only" $39 and that's for a whole cake.

I'll be staying at the BW in December and I was looking forward to this restaurant. Alas, I will simply enjoy the free aromas as I walk by.
We'll see if it is still open when you go in December. It will be interesting to see which disaster lasts longer, the CBS or Galactic Starcruiser.

Will be interesting to see if Gideon’s gets a boost from people who are appalled by CBS prices and promise themselves or their families a visit to Gideons instead of the ultra high end bakery as they walk buy it. I’ve never been to Gideons (or Disney Springs) in 10+ trips to Disney World but we’ll probably try CBS at some point because the location is adjacent to our favorite park and our favorite hotel. It’s kind of like paying more for a fast pass to save the hour round trip of transit. 🤷🏼‍♀️

Of course, that time saving only works after the huge wave of influencers dies down…not sure if that will happen before our Nov or even Jan trips.

They only need a stream of new people to try their place  once. Thankfully, WDW happens to have an influx of new people every day. If they're able to be successful in Indiana without a constant supply of new guests while maintaining their "high" prices, I think they will do fine at Disney.

I agree with you, but remember this is Boardwalk, it is not like they are located at Disney Springs. I have been to Boardwalk multiple times, I stay at BWV most trips, and usually it is not that busy. I think the location plus the high pricing might be an issue, not sure.
