Cake Bake Shop at the BoardWalk is now open

At least for me and my family, we might visit a dining venue once for the ambiance or experience. If the food and prices don't line up, we won't return. For example, we did Cinderella's Royal Table for the experience. It was beautiful and interesting but the food was average and cost was high. We never returned. Jungle Skipper has really good food at a good price but the atmosphere is just average (for WDW) but we visit every trip.

I suspect CBS will be a one and done for many visitors. Reviews after opening will be a big factor for people on the fence trying to decide if the cost is worth it. For people who aren't concerned about the prices, I suspect they will return over and over for the experience and somewhat exclusivity of it all.

At the published prices, nothing is a must-have. There are way too many other dining venues that offer tasty less costly dishes/desserts that I can visit, eat, pay and be on my way with a higher satisfaction.

"Reasonable" is subjective.
No, not on most things as long as comparisons exist. $18 for kids buttered noodles is not reasonable, will people pay I guess we will soon find out.

Disney guests won't shell out money they don't think is worth the experience i.e Galactic Starcruiser/NBA experience.

I will also add that I subscribe to a lot of different Disney blogs/posts not just here and the prices are getting destroyed by almost everyone.

Your saying you can't have upscale ambience and still charge resonable prices :confused:.
Ambiance suggests the tables are spaced, not on top of each other. Service is relaxed.
Ambience means $$$ for items like chandeliers.

I don't think you can offer that kind of ambiance and charge regular ( reasonable) pricing. Pricing looks like reasonable prices, plus $10.

this is Boardwalk, it is not like they are located at Disney Springs
I've never understood exactly why, but the Boardwalk offerings have more or less always been distinctly meh, and never really managed to do well. It's particularly noticeable given the better offerings on the other side of Crescent Lake. I think part of it is that the total number of rooms: BWV+BW is about 910. BC+BCV+YC is about 1500. There are just fewer people in need of lunch.

There's a lot of "I" in the interview.
Yeah, I get the distinct impression that this is partly a Celebrity Chef thing, and that has some upside.

These are some of the cocktails at Enchanted Rose, a lounge that gets a lot of love from bloggers & forums. We don’t drink, so $20-26 for 1 drink seems ridiculously absurd to me.
It's not cheap, but it's not completely insane compared to the Outside World. For example, this place is a very nice cocktail bar in Ann Arbor, and drinks are in the $14-$16 neighborhood. A 50%-66% markup in Disney vs. the outside world doesn't seem so unexpected.

(As an aside, getting sober was a great way to save on my WDW trips!)

So, can we expect lower prices for cake slices, etc when purchased for takeout at the Cake Bake Shop Bakery next door? You know, since none of that ambiance exists when you're taking your to-go box to eat on a bench outside.

Nope! No lower prices. Your discount is the amount of tips you don't have to pay to the server.

I suspect they won't want the take out window undercutting the restaurant.

Does Macdonald charge less for drive through or take out?

Many, maybe most, of the posters in this thread won't be customers.

I don’t visit restaurants for the ambiance as a primary goal. First the food has to worth the money spent which disqualifies entire parks @ WDW (yeah I’m looking at you, Magic Kingdom!) from my POV.

I think the placement of CBS is canny from a business standpoint; flagship or not, GF resort hasn’t the space or appropriate building costs for the scope of this project. Placement at BW expands the anchoring of outside business for WDW too so it’s a win win for both parties.

Don’t know if the food is worth the price but guess I’ll find out when I visit.

I don’t go around hoping for the demise of Enchanted Rose. It’s none of my business how other people spend their money. For my $20+, I’d much rather get a yummy slice of chocolate cake in a pretty & elegant table service restaurant.

Then there's nothing to the argument that you are paying for the ambiance. Otherwise, I can choose not to tip the server and consider that a "discount", too.

McDonald's isn't charging a premium for "ambiance". If you want to maintain that the prices are what they are because of premium ingredients, I'll concede that point. But I imagine that most guests have no idea what Callebaut chocolate is, nevermind what makes it superior to Hershey's.

Glad you enjoy it. Just as I will enjoy a $20+ slice of cake. An old fashioned isn’t worth any price to me. 😊
The older I get, the pickier I get. I’m pretty much a “Mikey won’t eat it; he hates everything” gal now except without the “Hey Mikey, he likes it” ending. I’d pay for the lemon blueberry and maybe the mint, but I’d be very hesitant to drop $20 on any other flavor. I’ve had the vanilla rose cake twice - I ordered it once from WS, and my mother had ordered one we picked up from the actual shop in Indy for Thanksgiving - and both times were lacking, I’ll say. I do love soup, so I won’t say I’ll never hit up the BW location.

So...getting back to the theme of this discussion...do we think that this will actually be open in 2024? It does look like it's pretty close.

I heard this morning on Amy and Paul's podcast that CBS was considering a soft opening later this week, but put it off.
As far as cost, I predict she'll have plenty of customers. For lots of people, it's almost a bragging rights to go someplace super expensive on vacation. Ever heard this?

"Took the family to the Cake Bake Shop."
"Wow, I heard that's expensive!"
[Puffs out his chest and smiles]"Yeah, but we can afford it!"

Or something similar.

McDonalds used to have an awesome ambiance, but sadly not anymore:
