Cake Bake Shop at the BoardWalk is now open

Sexism? I mean there was a reason I used the 'ladies who lunch' phrase to describe this place and the reference to Sex in the City.
I never watched that show but honestly this seems to be the most logical reason for all this hate. It's too girly for some? I mean the price thing just doesn't cut it when you look at prices across the resort at the nicer restaurants for comparable items. Disney food is mediocre and most their decor is dated or lackluster. This place is beautiful, quite the treat and as someone who hates spending money on Disney food ... I'll be working this in to my budget. I think it's going to be very popular! SO MUCH HATE, legit hate, towards a brand and Disney about this. Wishing a failure on them. It is really so hostile .... :confused3 I mean DON'T GO! Lots at Disney I don't get why people patron, but I don't care.

Doubt Gordon Ramsey opening up a place that is a clone of one of his Vegas locations (and there are many) would get this much hate.
EXACTLY!

I have been really looking forward to doing an Afternoon Tea at CBS as they offer a gluten free version. The menu I saw elsewhere didn’t show a tea offered at the BW location, has anyone seen anything different?

I may have to see if dh will drive me to Indiana this Christmas……

I mean most of us love the decor and were excited until the prices were released.

This is pretty expensive for some sandwiches and cake. As people stated, compared to Gideon's it's 3x the price. Compared to other places in property it's 2x the price of similar food options.
Even if you can afford it, no one thinks $26 for scrambled eggs is reasonable. Especially when you can eat at the Ale & Compass with a buffet for the same price a short walk away.
But also, no one is telling you not to go and enjoy. If you are okay with that, please enjoy 😊

I wondered the same thing. It was definitely a highlight in the articles when this location was announced. Now I don't see it anywhere :confused3. That definitely would've filled a niche for sure since afternoon tea never returned to GF. Everybody else who's saying this is luxury dining - there are SO many luxury dining options at Disney. How is this going to be different?

In the Disney Food Blog article linked 2 posts above yours, Gwendolyn states the Afternoon tea will be held @ WDW.

“I’m most looking forward to creating spaces for people to bring them together. And I’m also excited about the Afternoon Tea. That’s a very popular event here, and people drive from all over to come to it. They come to The Cake Bake Shop in Carmel from all over the midwest to have Afternoon Tea, and it’s pretty magical.”

:thumbsup2 These are some of the cocktails at Enchanted Rose, a lounge that gets a lot of love from bloggers & forums. We don’t drink, so $20-26 for 1 drink seems ridiculously absurd to me. I don’t go around hoping for the demise of Enchanted Rose. It’s none of my business how other people spend their money. For my $20+, I’d much rather get a yummy slice of chocolate cake in a pretty & elegant table service restaurant.

And I've been there. My drink was small but nice, nothing special, the lounge itself was a huge disappointment. "Enchantment" was quite the stretch. I will never return. And that is okay, more room for folks who love it. I would much rather enjoy a big slice of cake in a beautiful room.

I think folks are just comparing a sandwich to a sandwich without any regard for the stunning environment and the whole experience. And comparing the theme & decor of Cake Bake Shop to Ale & Compass is literal apples and oranges. If you only care about filling your stomach as inexpensive as you can, overall Disney isn't the place to eat.

Just like those who love Topolino Character Breakfast or other expensive meals ~ sometimes it is way more than just about the food. People pay over $40 for a kid to eat mac & cheese at a character meal ... because they want the experience. People are paying $13 for a hot dog from Casey's and they have to stand and eat it. A 50 cent hot dog. I totally get not everywhere is for everyone. But the bashing this particular place is really something. I don't get it.

There's a lot of "I" in the interview. She seems confident in who she is, how she's doing it, what she's making and charging, where she's doing it, and why she's in charge, solo, and winging it. We shall see if she is right.

Glad there's another option at BW, but not overly interested in cake.

The article is more then 2 years old.

Mentioned 2023 opening.

🤷🏾‍♀️ I mean, I'll admit I'm not the target audience for character meals because I'm a foodie who does go for the food. I've had great meals at Disney.
If it's in your budget and you don't mind the prices, enjoy! I truly hope reports come out that it's worth the price. I'm always down for new great food options at WDW.
I'm definitely doubtful that scrambled eggs could ever be worth $26 but I REALLY hope I'm wrong.

This is a short video from their Carmel Location from last year. A quick look at the atmosphere and some of the food /cake portions.

While its not for me, I can see it being a hit with the "ladies do lunch" crowd and the kiddos. It definitely fits with the Disney theme.

I just hope they turn the former BRG into some sort of sports bar. That way there is something for everyone in the family

People are paying $13 for a hot dog from Casey's and they have to stand and eat it.
Or $1.50, including soda with refills, at COSTCO food court.

Instead of characters guests at CBS are paying an extra $10 for the dining experience and atmosphere. Aren't most of the entrée about $10 more then expected, for just food.

Some people think certain things are the best thing in the world. I truly think it has to do where your located and where you live. For example, Gideons bakeshop is an average cookie shop to me that I would never wait more than 5 mins to get a cookie. Some people think its the most amazing thing in the world and have no problem waiting 45 mins.

I see the same happening with this. Some will see the inside and think its royal. Some won't. Some will pay obvious rip off prices, some wont. To each their own.

The only thing that affects is prices everywhere though. As long as people keep paying, they will keep charging outrageous prices thinking people are OK with it

I've seen a few comparisons between Les Halles and Cake Bake. Surely the food is cheaper at Les Halles, but that place is a hole-in-the-wall cafeteria with long lines and few seats, and the price reflects the ambience.
