C25K! Anyone else in?

hi y'all! :hyper:

haven't posted on this thread before (haven't really been on this board at all), but i just got home from the gym after completing W5D3. Yup, that's the first big 2 mile run.

IIIII DIIIIIIID IIIIIIIIITTTTTTTTT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
:banana::banana::banana:

i'm SO proud of myself!! i've NEVER enjoyed running but started this program in January and i've been majorly successful with it! NO pain in my shins (which i usually struggle with) and HOLYCRAPIRAN2MILESTODAY!!!!

it took a little work and a few repeats on week 4 & 5, but i made it!! :woohoo:

i hope y'all don't mind my gloating :goodvibes i just had to share. trust in the program - it works!!

That is NOT GLOATING!! That my dear, is well deserved pride in your accomplishment!! :cool1:

I would at least go ahead and try it, but keep in mind it is a big change from Week Three. I was just not prepared for the short recovery periods. The runs, while tough, were not ALL that bad...I just had to take a little more recovery time before the last one. And I went VERY slowly on that last run!

I could never do the shorter recovery times. I always extended them but did the correct amout of running. It has not hampered my progress at all I just finished up week 6. :goodvibes

W6D3 done. It was a rough adjustment for me and when I hit the 25 min mark I wanted to stop. It took a while for my breathing to adjust today about 6 min. That is long for me. Usually it adjusts by 3 min. It is supposed to be really cold tomorrow so I wanted to get it over with. :goodvibes

I chose desire over pay..it's going to be rough for a while but I truly believe that the long term reward will be worth it. As it stands now, I'm making ok money, but I have no benefits, no opportunity for advancement, a lousy commute (can you say I-4 parking lot?) and the job is just miserable. With Disney, I cut my commute by more than half (none of it is on I-4), I get discounted rent, benefits and a potential to advance. On top of ALL that I'll be working for a company that I completely believe in.

I had a tough swim practice last night, but I hope to get in W5D1 in tonight.

I am so jealous! I cant wait to hear all about how it goes. You have to keep us posted on your job. I-4 is horrible. I have to jump on it from 528 to get into Disney. Holy traffic jam batman. I will be very interested in the CM perks you get. I may just have to see if they need a nurse over at one of the parks. That would be my dream job. I am so excited for you!:goodvibes

Good for you for sticking with it even though you're not losing weight. I know how motivating it is to see results. Have you noticed any changes in your body even though the scale hasn't moved? Sometimes there are great things happening, but we don't necessarily realize it at first.

Hang in there - you're doing great!

DW says I'm trimmer, but my belt doesn't agree. I do feel better, but it would be nice if after 4+ weeks I could see it in the scale or waistline. My appetite is larger, but my eating habits haven't changed.:confused3 Oh well, keep moving forward, right?:thumbsup2

Definitely. :thumbsup2 Back a few years ago I lost 20 pounds by walking every day and eating better. But, I remember the first month I didn't lose much. And then it just started coming off.

It takes a lot of determination to stick with it even if you aren't seeing the payoff. I admire you for that. ;)

My patience was rewarded though, and I can finally leave my crappy temp job and work for Mickey!!!

That is soooo awesome!:cool1: You'lll have to let us know where you are going to be working!

I started W4D1 yesterday...HOLY COW! It was tough!!! I did ok until I got to the last 5 minute run. I had to take a little more recovery time between the 3rd and 4th run. I made it through that last run, but I had to take it very slowly.

Hope W4D2 tomorrow is a little easier!

You are scaring me!!!! I am not finding W3 as hard as I thought I would, and now I am stressing over next week! :scared1:

It's interesting how everyone hits W4 and goes :scared1:. The leap is HUGE and I think it would have been better to add another week instead of jumping from running 9 minutes to running 16 minutes. I only got one session in where I could complete that last 5 minute run..but I'm moving on anyway.

You guys will have to coach me big time next week!!!

Congrats to everyone for perservering! You guys are helping me so much. I am officially down 13 pounds since last month at this time, I have definitely changed my eating habits, this program, and some extra cardio and yoga on off days. Thanks guys!

You are doing fantastic. My biggest suggestion is to increase recovery times. That is the only thing that got me through this program so far. Keep it up.

Week 5 day 1 went GREAT!!! The increased rest time made all the difference! I had no trouble completing any of the 3 five minute runs!

I'm going to be "wogging" the ESPN 5k on Saturday, and my plan now is to do the whole thing running 5 minutes and taking 3-4 minute walk breaks in between. I think I can do the whole 40-45 minutes that way.

THIRTEEN POUNDS!!!! WOW!!!

You are doing AMAZING!!!

Don't worry about Week 4, just plow through it. Trust me, if I can get through it ANYONE can.

Plow will probably be the correct word, here! I just finished w3 2 hours ago. Not up for a dancing smiley, I struggled a lot more than the first two days. It is 24 degrees, winds at 30-60 mph. I really struggled with breathing, my nose ran and I couldn't inhale like I wanted to. Spring can't come soon enough. I was thinking about starting W4 on Saturday, high supposed to be in mid 40's, maybe it will be easier!

Glad it went well for you and good luck on Saturday!

I'm sure the cold weather really makes it tougher to catch your breath. It's hard enough for me running inside.

I just did W5D2, but I didn't complete the intervals exactly as I was supposed to. The first 8 minute run went fine. I put my mind elsewhere and did great. But, there's something about running for a longer distance and then trying to run on those tired legs again. I probably could have pushed myself to go the entire 8 minutes on the second run, but at 6 1/2 minutes in I let myself walk. After another break, I ran for another 3 minutes to make up for it.

I'll do day 2 again before moving on to that 20 minute run. I don't like to move on if I haven't completed the intervals as I should.

Have fun on Saturday I wanted to join the princess weekend and it is all full. Boo!

I thought you would do better with week 5! Congrats.

Now on my front I am walking on my off day. Next up is week 7 and it scares me! 3 - 25min runs. I am gonna need alot of mental help with this one.

Count me in!! I just found this thread the other day and have been glued to my computer catching up to see how everyone is doing...Carissa, I have also been reading your thread! You TOTALLY gave me the motivation to start up again! Thanks!

So I am on W1D4 (yes, D4) I feel guilty running only 3 days a week so I am adding 1 day into my weeks which will also ensure that I am ready to move to the next level. I am running inside on a treadmill which I like, but I started running at a 3.5 incline and then I read that it only needs to be at 1.5-2 in order to simulate outdoor running better. That will make a big difference when I run today. This week has been pretty easy, running has always been my go to exercise, but I have never been able to completely run a 5k!! I probabyl make it to 2.8 and then stop - can you say a mental block!! :rolleyes1 I am hoping this c25k plan will help push me through it!!

I turn 40 next year and I have always wanted a medal from a 1/2 marathon, but I am NOT going to sign up or commit yet (although maybe I should b/c it sells out) because I tend to go overboard with things and then give up when I get bored with it. That's why I wanted to commit to a 5k b/c I know that is doable and then work myself up to the 1/2 marathon.

When do the 1/2 marathons usually sell out? I need to keep that in mind before it's too late!!

:welcome:

Thanks for reading my PTR! :goodvibes I have been amazed by the number of people who have read it and said my story has motivated them to start. I think that is so awesome and not something I was expecting when I started this journey.

From what I've read, the half-marathon is the first to fill up and I think last year it was April. Personally, being someone who also gets gung ho about things and then the excitement fizzles out, I say if you want to do it, then sign up now! It is a huge motivator when you want to quit. I am bound and determined to prove to myself that I CAN stick with something. :thumbsup2

And as for only running three days a week, at first I thought the same way as you and figured I'd probably add in another day at some point. But, then I set up a schedule where I run three days a week, cross train three days, and then give myself one complete rest day.

Thanks for the warm welcomes! :goodvibes
So I was looking at the 1/2 marathon dates b/c of what you wrote Carissanboys that they fill up early. I even talked to our sitter about watching the kids on the weekend of the wine & dine marathon weekend, but her cousin is getting married so that won't work. Just need to either pick another marathon or find a different sitter! I would rather find another sitter. Running outside in January after what I heard about the weather this year really scares me! :scared1: I am NOT good in the cold! :sad2:

I am going to sign up tonight for a local 5k which takes place right after my C25K training is done. Even if the training takes me longer that's okay because I'll be almost done...also see in my signature I signed up for the virtual 5k in March! Woo Hoo!

I LOVE having the DISboards to share! Everyone is so supportive! THanks again! :grouphug:

You will do fine! I did W4D2 yesterday and didn't have hardly any trouble compared to that first day. I did all of the intervals and didn't need any extra recovery time. I think I was trying too hard on the first day. Yesterday I really slowed down and took my time. That seemed to help alot, although that last 5-minute run still seemed like it took forever!!!!!!

I am also turning 40 next year, and it is the same weekend as the Princess Half Marathon. So I am going to celebrate my birthday by completing that marathon! I have a 10K coming up in March of this year, and I'm hoping to do a couple more races before the Princess Half so I'll know what to expect and how I'll do. I am also reading Marathoning for Mortals by John Bingham. It's a great book for new runners, especially those planning on doing half or full marathons.

Don't let the weather from the half marathon this year scare you. I did the WDW half both this year and last. Last year the temperature at the start was 60 degrees. I really think that this year was a fluke. And, I am not a good cold weather runner either. DH and I trained on the indoor track at the gym for the half. I just dressed in layers and got out there and did it, and bonus! I cut 7 minutes off my time from 2009!

I just told DH yesterday that I think I want to do the half again in 2011, so I'll be signing up again soon.
