Bypass on Main Street?

I remember reading somewhere that there was supposed to be a permanent themed route where the Main Street bypass currently is? Does anyone know if this is still happening? Or did this plan die out?

Yep it's still there and is mostly done. They only open it during busy times or during a parade or fireworks. It will not be open all the time.

I did a KTTK Tour in November 2014, and it was discussed. The CM did indicate that they use the bypass so much and coupled with the fact that Disney does not (generally) like the public to see how the "Magic" happens, that they were going to make this permanent. It may be little more than decorations to look like store fronts (or similar) as opposed to actual, functional stores/attractions but that would still be helpful.

Yep. They have added planters back there and small trees along with the Main Street lamps.

This bypass route is just used for exiting after the parades/fireworks, right? Or is it also open to enter the park?

Currently it is only used (to the best of my knowledge) for exiting, not entering. It will also not be a "Full Time" exit, just when there is need for ease of moving a large crowd at once.

No I don't believe it's open to enter the park. Main purpose is for during parades and fireworks and when crowds are at crazy levels.

That's a shame. I would love for this to be like a whole themed/permanent street. Wishful thinking on my part haha. Thanks for the info everyone! :-)

I used it the first time after a wishes show. At first I was like where are we going, but then when we came out by the front I was thinking great idea.

The only time I've used that bypass was last December going *in* to the park. I was very surprised!

Surely they won't resist put up a few pin kiosks or snack carts. ;)
Actually I've heard they don't want this to be a Main Street 2.0 or something. They want to keep this for guests flow. Adding merchandise and food carts would create stoppage in a area that is supposed to relieve that.

We used it two weeks ago leaving after the fireworks. It is a work in progress, they have defined the path more with a colored pathway, lights, railings; starting to cover those areas that aren't meant for guests eyes but still some work to do.
It's an improvement but everyone still gets dumped at the front of Main Street, where the bottlenecks are still the underpasses. It would be nice if they could do a complete separate exit.

I was thinking the same thing. It would be nice if they made a path around the "Town Square". Of course you will still need an option to be able to go that way (as that is where the Stroller and wheel chair rental are). Sadly the only way I could see that happening is if they made a "Tunnel" under the building where Tony's Town Square is. Since this "Exit" is NOT revenue generating (or even enhancing) I cannot see WDW putting the money into something like that.

I know they have water run off issues that need addressed. During larger storms it's like a big pond back there. If it is open, they will close it if it starts to rain.

The was one thing they really fixed with Disneyland Paris, the Main Street blocks have a bypass hallway (vomitorium) that runs behind them.

They call them arcades. That works very well for them but they would have to do a a lot of work to do that in MK.

Used it quite a few times on entering the park. It is great if you don't want the Main Street walk but I do wish they would imagineer it up a bit. Still feels very backstage.

They are still working on it
