Hello All. We just returned yesterday from 10 nights at the BWV and I have some thoughts to share:

*We used the DVC discount at a few restaurants and never had to show our blue member ID card. All of them accpeted the "key to the world" card as proof of membership for the discount. We only had to show the "Blue Card" for a DVC pin purchase.

*I was very surprised at the amount of hurricane damage in the area. As we flew into Orlando you could see the blue tarps on roofs to cover the wind damage. Some shingles were missing off of the BWV and BC buildings as well but nothing else that I could see in terms of damage.

*We have been going to the BWV for quite a few years now and we never realized how close Fantasia Gardens minitature golf was. It was just a short walk over the bridge to the Swan.

*The Boardwalk view is noisy. For years I have always cringed when people said how much they enjoyed the quiet of OKW. Having always stayed in a standard view room or a room in a quieter area of the BWV, I never experienced the Boardwalk view rooms until this trip. On Friday and Saturday nights it is especially noisy around the time that the dance clubs close (2:00 A.M.). If you are a light sleeper, don't get a Boardwalk view room especially on the weekend.

*We were able to get into our Grand Villa on 11/19 when we checked in at 10:30 A.M. but had to wait until 3:30 P.M. to get into our 2BR on Sunday 11/21.

*Thanksgiving is not nearly as crowded as Christmas/New Years'. There were a lot of people but having gone the last two New Year's in a row made it seem like not a big deal.

*We were amazed they were actually putting guests in the rooms over the area where the old red building had been torn down and the big white tent is up. The area was very dusty. We had our 2BR over the area where the old receptioon area for the sales offices were located right on the Boardwalk. That wasn't a big deal because you couldn't see anything unless you walked out on the balcony and looked down. We had a great view over Crescent Lake.

*I understand why they are working on the pipes in the building. On the last day, we had water leaking into our shower from the room above us. We called maintenance and they respoinded right away. They had to close off the room above us and turn off the water. They were going to have to tear our ceiling apart to get at all of the pipes. They let us stay for our one remaining night without having to move but they did give us the choice.

*The bus system of sharing with just the Swan and Dolphin works much better but during early morning entry hours, the bus is still shared with the YC/BC as well. So if you are going to one of the parks by bus very early, you may want to walk over to the Swan so you don't get stuck standing or waiting for another bus because the first one already was filled.

*We walked to and from MGM Studios 4 times. Not once would it have been faster to use the boat transportation. Walking the .66 of a mile sure beats standing in line and waiting. During most walks, we never even saw a boat.

Overall it was a great trip and we are busily planning our next.

Since our next trip will be at BWV I'm actually sorry that I read your post, but oh well, I hope it's not as bad there as it sounds. We have standard view, and I hope that's not in the dusty area by the red building!

So you had a GV for a weekend, Wow!

The trip was great and the BWV's were outstanding as always. I was very pleased with our room and the resort. I'm sure things will be just as great for you.

Have fun.

Would you mind sharing the room number to your 2BR? We're staying BW view 2BR next month, and I really want to avoid those rooms where the construction is going on.

HBC, thank you for posting your report. Sounds like a great trip! :D I also stayed in a BW view studio on my last trip. I too noticed that there were some louder revelers on thurs & fri nights. But once I realized it was just some happy party goers I fell back asleep. Wish I was back there right now!

Thanks for posting. All very interesting and useful. Our stay at the Boardwalk was fantastic.

Why do you cringe when you hear how quiet OKW is?

I should have explained that statement better. I only felt that way when it was said in comparison to the noisy BWV. I have always had very quiet stays at the BW. Most people who have never stayed at the BWV are only familiar with the Boardwalk side. They don't know the "other" quieter side of the BWV's. I always have argued that the BWV are indeed quiet too. I understand the comment better now having stayed in just about every area of the Boardwalk.

Your random thoughts were interesting! I enjoyed hearing about your trip. I was especially interested in the status of the shared bus situation. Thanks for posting a great report. :D

Thanks, HBC...I always enjoy reading your posts!!

Thanks for the trip report, I am glad that you had a great time. Would you please share your thoughts and observations on the Grand Villa. I was curious as to whether you thought it was worth and points, etc. Thanks.

Really enjoyed your report and your on-the-spot reports during your stay!

Thanks HBC, I always enjoy reading your posts. I'm gonna change my first ressie from the BWV (Late April) probably to the BCV based on the pipe work (not your post). It seems the pipe work will continue into Summer of 2005, and the rehab at SAB should be done by April.

It will me our (Me, DW, DD-12, DS-9 and DD-4) first trip home, and I want it to be as magical as possible.

It was worth it for us. We have 2 boys and 2 girls so each pair had their own rooms and beds for a couple of nights. We also had some extra points to use so it wasn't like we would be missing anything by using them on the GV.

The bedrooms are no different than other units but the dining room, living room, entrance way areas are huge and very comfortable. On a number of occasions as we were leaving, other guests passing by in the hall couldn't resist asking us if they could look in. All were amazed at the amount of space.

At some point in the future, we may get a GV again but it will probably be back to a standard view 2BR for us for our next long trip.

Thanks for the post, I am glad that it was worth the points, I would like to try it sometime.

Hi HBC
thank you for sharing your views and experiences on your vacation, as well as the great trip report !
We also never had to show the blue DVC card for the discount at any restaurant that offered it. Our key was sufficent for them as well.
The GV must have been so wonderful just having so much space to just spread out  AAAAHHHHH, mabe someday :cloud9:
again, thanks for sharing!
