Hello All. We just returned yesterday from 10 nights at the BWV and I have some thoughts to share:
*We used the DVC discount at a few restaurants and never had to show our blue member ID card. All of them accpeted the "key to the world" card as proof of membership for the discount. We only had to show the "Blue Card" for a DVC pin purchase.
*I was very surprised at the amount of hurricane damage in the area. As we flew into Orlando you could see the blue tarps on roofs to cover the wind damage. Some shingles were missing off of the BWV and BC buildings as well but nothing else that I could see in terms of damage.
*We have been going to the BWV for quite a few years now and we never realized how close Fantasia Gardens minitature golf was. It was just a short walk over the bridge to the Swan.
*The Boardwalk view is noisy. For years I have always cringed when people said how much they enjoyed the quiet of OKW. Having always stayed in a standard view room or a room in a quieter area of the BWV, I never experienced the Boardwalk view rooms until this trip. On Friday and Saturday nights it is especially noisy around the time that the dance clubs close (2:00 A.M.). If you are a light sleeper, don't get a Boardwalk view room especially on the weekend.
*We were able to get into our Grand Villa on 11/19 when we checked in at 10:30 A.M. but had to wait until 3:30 P.M. to get into our 2BR on Sunday 11/21.
*Thanksgiving is not nearly as crowded as Christmas/New Years'. There were a lot of people but having gone the last two New Year's in a row made it seem like not a big deal.
*We were amazed they were actually putting guests in the rooms over the area where the old red building had been torn down and the big white tent is up. The area was very dusty. We had our 2BR over the area where the old receptioon area for the sales offices were located right on the Boardwalk. That wasn't a big deal because you couldn't see anything unless you walked out on the balcony and looked down. We had a great view over Crescent Lake.
*I understand why they are working on the pipes in the building. On the last day, we had water leaking into our shower from the room above us. We called maintenance and they respoinded right away. They had to close off the room above us and turn off the water. They were going to have to tear our ceiling apart to get at all of the pipes. They let us stay for our one remaining night without having to move but they did give us the choice.
*The bus system of sharing with just the Swan and Dolphin works much better but during early morning entry hours, the bus is still shared with the YC/BC as well. So if you are going to one of the parks by bus very early, you may want to walk over to the Swan so you don't get stuck standing or waiting for another bus because the first one already was filled.
*We walked to and from MGM Studios 4 times. Not once would it have been faster to use the boat transportation. Walking the .66 of a mile sure beats standing in line and waiting. During most walks, we never even saw a boat.
Overall it was a great trip and we are busily planning our next.
