BWV renovated room smells

Just checked into BWV today and the renovated room we got stank of paint fumes or something. Anyway we had a cast member come up, check it out and they agreed that it was a pretty strong smell. The plan was to move us to a different room, but guess what? As soon as the cast member opened the door to the new room the exact same smell. They cast member then tried to brush it off as being a new smell. Right. Smell of a new car, good! Paint fumes, or varnish or whatever this is is just a plain bad smell!

Not a happy camper.

Oh man, if it's not the noise it's the stink. Thanks for the heads up, I will bring a couple of odor neutralizers just in case. Hopefully if you can crack the slider and leave the fans on while you are out and about it will help dissipate the smell quicker. Can you share your general room info (size/view/area). We are checking in, in under a week. I usually request quiet pool but sounds like that may not be the way to go this time around. Hope things improve and you have a great trip.

Sorry you're experiencing such strong odors in the room. Not the way anyone wants to start their vacation. Hope you have been able to switch to another room without fumes.

Does Disney allow the regular hotel guests to occupy rooms with paint fumes? I'm not being snarky, I seriously don't know. It sometimes seems that DVC guests put up with a lot more inconveniences than regular hotel guests. Of course it could be that DVC'ers are more vocal about the issues.

When we were there last week, no paint smell, but hallways had the smell of a new carpet. It was NOT unpleasant. FYI, we were on 4th floor Boardwalk view.

Fingers crossed that they can find a room that doesn't stink for ya

We are here as well in a 4th fl pool view room....I'm the only one in our group of 4 that's smelt something.and it was just when we first walked in the room during the day yesterday..it may be the new paint or carpet ...not sure...to me it wasn't bad..and I only noticed it for a minute or so...we are all happy with the renovation...and no noise...at all and we have been in the room during the day...

Yes we are behind leaping horse libations....took a walk and they are working on the wing of rooms between the main pool and quiet pool on the 3rd and 4th floors

New room smells are just like new car smells, most of them are plastics and adhesives out gassing as they cure and age. Often the VOC's can cause headaches and sometimes other illnesses.

We are about 5-6 rooms away from the elevators, standard view. The other room was at the far end over looking the parking lot.
Today they are going to bring an ionizer to run and see if it can get rid of some of the smell.

I'm wondering what floor you are on since there seems to be a couple of conflicting reports. Sounds like standard view on the 4th and 5th floors are done.

Yes we have gotten regular rooms that smelled of paint. We put the AC on fan only and open up the slider and air it out. We always travel with ionizer/air purifier as to me all hotel rooms have smells. New carpet can really smell.

I would be pleased that it looked good, fresh and smelt like new rather than damp ,stale, & old.

Go and enjoy the parks which is why you are there.

It's not this simple. Smells like the op details can be debilitating for some people. My husband and daughter couldn't spend five minutes in such a room before their allergies and asthma kicked in big time. A move would be a medical necessity. Sorry to hear this op. In glad we cancelled bwv for our upcoming trip.

I am hyper sensitive with my sense of smell & that would drive me nuts. Sorry to hear this. We stayed in a 2nd floor std studio non-renovated in September that had a musty, mildew smell. It dissipated soon after the AC was running (still not acceptable). We stayed in a 5th floor std renovated studio in October with no smell issues.

Just so you know, DVC might not see it that way. Its one of the issues with timeshares in general, you can easily get stuck with no recourse. Over they years several people have gotten stuck with rooms that created issues.

Yikes, there are a lot of reasons to be there, many of which do not include the parks. Plus after a long day of travel some need to rest before heading to the parks that would be difficult for many in a fumy (sp?) room.

I agree, this renovation has really been a challenge for all involved (staff, mgt. guests) and I think BWV has asked a lot of its guests. Having a clean, safe, healthy and comfortable room should be a basic. That is the business they (BWV/BW) are in, anything short of that should not be offered or should be offered at a discount and/or prior acceptance of the guest. Not oh ya, it is a stinky room but it's your stinky room, and don't give us attitude about it.

I can say that we have many, many times, over the years had sub-par rooms and have not complained. We have an understanding that they are very busy with little or no downtime and that we as owners balance the less than perfect with the understanding that we have a financial obligation to the resort. I don't think DVC members complain more than the general public JMHO, I think they tolerate more imperfections at their home resort than they would if they stayed at a name brand hotel. I know some of this is off topic from the OP post but really needed to get this off my chest.

I think the only reason the room had a strong odour was that this section was just completed so we were some of the first people in the room. I'm pretty sure rooms that got renovated earlier are perfectly fine.
