BWV renovated room smells

It's not this simple. Smells like the op details can be debilitating for some people. My husband and daughter couldn't spend five minutes in such a room before their allergies and asthma kicked in big time. A move would be a medical necessity. Sorry to hear this op. In glad we cancelled bwv for our upcoming trip.
Exactly. I have asthma an absolutely could not be in that room longer than 5 minutes. If it were me in the OP situation they would be putting me up in a suite over at BWI. Simply would not be tolerating it.

I think the only reason the room had a strong odour was that this section was just completed so we were some of the first people in the room. I'm pretty sure rooms that got renovated earlier are perfectly fine.

I hope your room is better now. Have a fun time!

Does Disney allow the regular hotel guests to occupy rooms with paint fumes? I'm not being snarky, I seriously don't know. It sometimes seems that DVC guests put up with a lot more inconveniences than regular hotel guests. Of course it could be that DVC'ers are more vocal about the issues.

Problem is the hotels average less than 90% occupancy, meaning they typically have dozens of vacant hotel rooms to make adjustments when issues arise.

Timeshares run near 100% occupancy year-round. When you have 400 rooms and 400 parties booked, what do you do?

DVC does hold back 2% of points for maintenance purposes, but I suspect a lot of that maintenance allocation is being utilized now to assist with the refurbishment project.

For those that have asked, the trip is going fine, smell has mostly gone away or else I've gotten use to it, hahaha.

One of the corridors up on the 4th floor is closed (down where you would take the trash) off so I'm assuming they are doing renovations down there.

I'm glad the trip is going well and that the smell is gone or you are used to it (and no one in your family is horribly allergic/sensitive).

New room smells are just like new car smells, most of them are plastics and adhesives out gassing as they cure and age. Often the VOC's can cause headaches and sometimes other illnesses.

This, absolutely.

Hey, I like the smell of new carpet and car just as much as the next guy, but 10 minutes later I'm sick as a dog. With the carpet at least.

The two times I've been sick in a very weird, freaky, what is WRONG with her, way were caused once by offgassing of a brand new hotel (a Westin in WA) and another time by massive mold/mildew in our room at SSR. Both times I stupidly stayed (I do not get to make such decisions any more b/c it's too scary for my family) for one night and both times I regretted it.

I would be pleased that it looked good, fresh and smelt like new rather than damp ,stale, & old.

I'm glad that no one in your family is wildly sensitive. If someone in your family were, I assure you you would not feel that way.

Just so you know, DVC might not see it that way.

No, they totally do. I think that anyone in the hotel industry KNOWS that there are people heavily affected by offgassing. Disney, especially, WILL help. The thing I, in my altered brain state at SSR, gave up was a move the following day to a grand villa, they were so concerned about me. I blurrily said that I didn't want any more than we were due, so we could move to another 2 bedroom the following day. UGH. (that's another reason I'm not allowed to make the decisions if I'm in that state LOL)

They haven't always. I can think of at least two cases where people have not been moved despite issues with asthma or allergies from mold or smoke smell - and at least one where the carpet was still wet from cleaning and the cleaning chemical was triggering migraines where they weren't moved.

I am one of the people that is very sensitive to smells . Chemical smells can trigger bad migraines with vertigo. I might end up in hospital, or sitting in a chair unable to move for days. So for me this is an issue.

Now when we stayed at BCV in May, there was a nasty smell, like vomit. They came up immediately with a spray like fabreeze and covered all the carpts, sofa and such. we had to run the air and open the windows bu it was not a chemical smell so I was not worried about getting sick.

I have a hard time believing this. I have had a room cleaned especially for medical reasons and a manager personally came up to see if everything was cleaned to expectations or if anything else needed to be done.

Well, maybe the people who posted that they weren't moved were lying. But I remember people reporting having issues that affect health and not being moved. It was actually fairly common back before the resorts went non-smoking.

Consistency isn't one of Disney's strong suits. What happens at one resort may not happen at another. We received a VIP cleaning for some reason and they wouldn't let us into our room until it was inspected by a manager. Problem was there wasn't one available and around 5:30 I insisted that they let us into our room.

At OKW the room had a strong mold/mildew smell and my daughters eyes turned red. After complaining about the room we were told that it wasn't occupied the night prior and after running the AC for a few hours the smell would get better. Maintenance came by and replaced the air filter, agreed that the smell was bad and wished that he had another de-humidifier to lend us but that they were all in use. It did get better and we just put up with it.
