BUZZ's Brigade - TEAM CHALLENGE - POST MILES/HOURS HERE

Hi everyone!! I just found this wonderful WISH board. I do try to walk a little every once in a while. I have alot of runners in my office who are trying to get me to go to a race and walk. I have made up my share of excuses. I decided to join WW at work and I signed up for TOT 13k. I need all the help I can get. How do you keep track of your miles/hours? With a pedometer?
Thanks for everything.
Debbie

Debbie if you go to my blog and take the link to pandaendurance there is a link to the distance calculator that uses maps of your streets.

Hello, team mates!! Am I still a member here?? :confused3

Welcome, Debbie!! You've made such a good choice..as did Dave/Panda in sending you to us!! :thumbsup2 I'm a walker, too! One step at a time will get you to the FINISH line. That's my mantra. Alot of us follow the book Marathoning for Mortals by John Bingham. Not that I've done a marathon, but his program is for regular people just starting out in this exercise venue. I followed his "walk a half marathon" plan simply because I didn't know what else to do. It works!! :welcome:

Chris, after I get to the bottom of the top of my desk, :3dglasses I'll send you my totals for the past months. Every little bit helps. I have done two competitions for double time!! I haven't checked the calendar, where is your 1/2 this weekend?

Wendy!! So sorry to read of your foot problems!! Please take care!!
Allie!! you, too!! You're still way faster than me, my friend!!

Caseydilla, did you do the Red Rock Run last year?

Everyone have fun today!!! :goodvibes

Welcome, Debbie!! I'm pretty new to the WISH boards, myself, but I think you'll find that everyone is very helpful and friendly. It's good to have a place like this, to list your time and mileage, so you have a reason to keep track and people to cheer you on.

Good luck with your walking! I'm sure you'll be in great shape by the time ToT arrives!

Of course you are. :thumbsup2

I'll be doing the Columbus Half. It's going to be chilly all the sudden so I'm not looking forward to it from that perspective.

Hi All,

Pat, why aren't you doing the full LV marathon? I noticed you still need that as one of your 50 states. You are going to do the half, what's another 13 or so miles :lmao: I plan on doing the LV half next year.

Duane

Ok, a little late in seeing this, but Duane are you NUTS?? :rotfl2: I am doing HALF marathons! I've done one full - been there, done that, probably won't do it again!! Actually my real goal is half marathons in 25 states - Anne found a cool website www.half2run.com - their motto is half the distance in half the states! And, all the fun! I've done 10 states so far and will cross off TX in Nov and NV in Dec. The fulls are too hard-core for me!

We are really looking forward to Vegas. DH's mom and favorite brother live there and it is Jim's happy place (mine is Disney!). So we will be able to combine a visit to family, a visit to Jim's happy place, AND cross off a state from my list! A win, win, win situation. Jim's brother was inspired to register for the half too, so it should be a blast.

:welcome: Debbie:welcome: To our merry band of hop-alongs!

And Helloooo Anne! Was thinking about you last week and your warm welcome when I came aboard. Welcome Back!!!!

Week of 10/03-10/09
Miles 8.59
Time 1:51

Week of 10/10-10/16

Casey,
so glad you enjoyed the Red Rock race. I bet the course is hard as it is very hilly no matter which way you go. I would love to do that someday. After the visit this Jan, I will try to plan my visits around either the Red Rock half or the LV half.

Pat, enjoy the LV half this year.

I've been gone so I have 2 weeks to post.
Week ending 10/10
Miles: 30
Minutes: 300

Week ending 10/17
Miles: 33 (incl 10 biking)
Minutes: 260

Seems like we have a few injuries. take it easy everyone, we still have a long way to go.

enjoy,
Duane

Here are my totals for the week of 10/10-10/16:

Miles: 5.57

Hours: 1:55:12

Ok, at least that is better than last weeks. ;) :rotfl2: Now I have not run since Sept. 2nd. :scared1: Not one bit, nothing, Nada, now I did a 5K this weekend in support of breast cancer. Well, I did it! :yay: I ran the whole time except for the water break, and one hill at the end. I did it in 38:53. Not bad for a girl who hasn't run in over a month. It felt good to get out there and do it. I didn't put out my 100% effort because I didn't want to injure myself. I just ran. When I stopped for the water, a girl behind me said, "thanks for stopping, I've been using you as my pacer, you have been keeping a good pace." I was so excited!! I have never been far enough ahead in a pack for someone to use me as their pace. :yay: :dance3: It was an exciting moment for me. I feel like a "real runner" now. :cool2: My legs are a bit sore today, but I'm sure that is just because they hadn't been used to that capacity in six weeks. I wore my lovely (NOT) compression hose on my right leg. That girl told me that she had been running behind me the entire race, and that she hadn't even noticed. :confused3 Well, either she was being nice, or she was telling the truth, either way it made me feel better because I was self conscious about wearing it.

WELCOME BACK ANNE!!!!!
:grouphug: (<- that's a big bear hug from me ;) ) You have been missed! Are you back for good? Is your family member ok? I think I remember that is why you had to leave us.

:welcome: to our gang Debbie!!! :grouphug: I'm Sandi, but I use the nickname of Allie on the boards. It's a long boring, story, but you can just call me Allie. ;)

Magix - How did your 10 minute runs go this weekend?

Casey - Congrats on that Red Rock Half. That's impressive!

Pat - I would invite you to join me in our Huntsville, AL Half, but sadly I have had to make the decision NOT to do it. With all my vein treatments, I just haven't been able to get the miles in to get prepared. They have a 5K as well, so I think I'm going to do that instead. That way I don't feel like such a loser for dropping out.

Mike - How ya' feeling?

Chris - As always, thanks for being our numbers guru.

We'll I just did the Columbus half and had a great time. I PR'd and finished the 1/2 in 2:19:24. I realize that to most people that's slow, but man I felt like I was flying. I ran the whole time again so I was proud of that (Since I had dead legs and pictures to take at Disneyland I didn't run the whole way in September.) It was also the first time my parents had seen me run although they changed the course on us and only got to see me once and I got to see my wife and kids a couple times so that always helps boost your run.

It's funny I've lived around here my whole life and saw a few place in Bexley that just made me go wow. The houses were amazing. Franklin Park Conservatory? was also nice to look at and we will now check it out. Most of the rest of it is scenary I've seen enough so I got to focus on my run.

I was very impressed with the crowd support. I didn't think it would be very good, but at least for the half anyway there seemed to be a good crowd. Especially in that cold. Brrrr.

Now I did get a little depressed because only like 40-50 males actually finished behind me that were running which made me feel even slower than I already knew I was. :rolleyes1 (EDIT - I guess the results were incomplete because now there are over 380 males behind me.)

Since I'll be doing Goofy I know I won't be PR'ing at Disney World so this one may be my final PR. We'll see. :goofy: :goofy:

Way to go Chris! I was wondering how the half went.

So Allie, how does it feel to be a pacer? You go!

Duane

It was the highlight of my day! :cool2: :yay: :woohoo: :cheer2:

A friend of mine who ran with me in my very first race last year told me to find someone in the crowd and then try to keep up with them. Well, I was that person for that lady. It was so uplifting for me. I am ready to get out there and hit the pavement again.

Although the organization of this run was not the best that I've seen. I think they had way more people than they anticipated. First off, they ran out of shirts. I didn't expect to get one since I didn't sign up until the night before, but they ran out of water at the end of the race. Now I think that is inexcusable. The shirts I understand because they don't know how many folks will come and sign in at the last minute, and they only guaranteed that the first 3,000 would get them, but they should have known (by the previous nights numbers) how many folks they needed to hydrate. They had a separate men's and women's race, so maybe the men drank more water while they waited for us to run. :confused3 There were a lot of folks that were coming to the finish, and they needed water. This is a big community event, and a large portion of the participants were NOT runners, but were participating because it was a good cause. It was a 5th annual event, so maybe they will learn some lessons, and improve it next year. Didn't mean to sound so down about the race because I was really excited and had a great time, and was a pacer for the first time in my life! :cool2:

Congratulations Chris!!!! You ROCK!!!! Seeing family along the race is always a shot in the arm. ;)

Okay, catching up after my Vegas trip:

Week of 10/10-10/16: 6.75 miles, 1:47:00

Week of 10/17-10/23: 5.1 miles, 1:13:00

And... that's about it for me. At least for a while. I've damaged my knees pretty badly, it seems. Can't get in to the doctor until Tuesday, but I'm having a difficult time just walking right now. My 25 minute Tuesday run on the treadmill at Luxor really killed my knees. No idea why, but it's bad enough to stop me from any training for a while. I'll probably have to walk the Dana Point 5K in November. Then, I'll see if I can at least get back to a run/walk for the WDW 5K in January.

Serious bummer.

Caseydilla, did you do the Red Rock Run last year?

No, I didn't do it last year. The Oct Rock the Rock Run I just did was the inaugural event. They also do a Red Rock Marathon in March(I think that one started in 2008 too) but I have not done the March event before. I did register for the Red Rock 1/2 Marathon for March '09, though!

Checking in with my miles for the last two weeks!

week of 10/11-10/17
21 miles
3 hours, 38 minutes

week of 10/18-10/24
16 miles
2 hours, 52 minutes

I hope everyone's training is going well. Have a good weekend.

Hi All,
This was the first week I did longer mileage back to back. I did a fairly fast (for me) 7 on Friday night followed up by 14 Saturday morning. Need to get used to running back to back days for the Goofy. I was sure beat.

Anyway, here are my miles for the week:

Week ending 10/23
Miles: 33
Minutes: 322

Hope all is going well for everyone.

enjoy,
Duane

Here are my totals for the week of 10/17 - 10/24:

Miles: 14.96

Hours: 3:39:32

I LOVE getting the Bonus miles for races! I officially backed out of my Half, and was going to do the 5K, but my MIL is having surgery that week. So, I didn't want to seem like an uncaring DIL, and not be there for her. Especially when she has always let me come spend the night at her house for my "in town" races. That way I get a little more sleep. :cloud9: So, I'm sure there will be some holiday 5K's around, so hopefully I will do some of those.

Keep Running Buzzies!!!! To Infinity and Beyond!!!!

Hey Buzzies,
Was able to get a little 'machine time' in last week. Feeling better now. Time to get back in my training mode for January. Get some outside miles!

Week of 10/17 - 10/23

Miles
8.75
Time
1:48

Way to go Allie. People like you keep me going!:cheer2:

That's funny, because I think the same thing about you. I think, "if Mike can exercise and he is going through chemo, then I can get this lazy body out there too." ;) :goodvibes My neighbor's sister just had her last round of chemo last Thursday. How many more treatments do you have?

Mine is a maintenance chemo. I go two days, a week apart, every three months. Next round will be the day we get back from Disney 1/2 in January.
I have T-cell lymphoma. A low grade lymphoma that is not curable but not life threatning either. Just have to take chemo..............until!

My wife is a breast cancer survivor so I know bad chemo. This is not a bad chemo. Just fatigue. Always glad to explain. Later, MLB!
