Buzz's Brigade 2009 - Moving to Infinity and Beyond!!!

Hi Team! I'm finally checking in again. I took the week off after the Princess and then started running again last weekend. I did 4 miles on Saturday and 6 miles on Sunday. The run on Sunday felt great and was one of the fastest training runs I've had in the last couple months. Unfortunately I must have overdone it, because I think I pulled a muscle in my leg. It stinks because the local Road Runner Sports is having a FREE 5k fun run tonight for St Patty's Day with door prizes and a raffle that I was hoping to attend. But I know it's better to sit it out then risk further injury.

In other news, I've been looking for more local races to participate in and I found one that sounds really neat. It's more of an adventure run than a race. Basically they give you a map and you have to run around and collect stickers from the 5 different locations indicated on the map. There won't be any clues or obstacles, the challenge just comes from reading the map correctly and finding the most efficient route to collect the stickers. I'm excited about this race and just wish it was sooner than April 26.

syko, I'm gonna look up that challenge -- the words "cheap" and "bling" caught my eye :lmao:

Lisa, sorry about your leg. How frustrating when you had such a good run! Hope you're back to full speed soon. The race you described sounds really cool. I'm not sure my map reading skills would be up for it!

The only news here is that THE SUN'S OUT!! I took a 4.5 mile walk, in no hurry because I wanted to be outside.

Hi Team! Things have been busy and I haven't been on the Dis too much. Luckily some of that "busy" has been exercise:) March is going much better than February and I've been running, keeping up with my pilates, and even got on my bike last weekend:thumbsup2 A coworker recruited me for a local 5k that's on 4/4 and there's a 10 mile race I'd really like to do on 5/4 in Philly. Having those 2 events on the calendar has helped motivate me.

Congrats to everyone who did the Princess. It looked like so much fun! I got jealous looking at everyone's pictures:)

Lisa- That race sounds like so much fun!

Chris- What races do you have in mind? I know how you feel... it's so much easier to stay motivated when there's a fun race on the calendar!

Duane- Congrats on the 5k! I'm signed up for Race for the Cure in May (will be my 3rd year). It's held on Mother's Day in Philly and attracts tens of thousands of people. Last year there were people toeing the start line with baby strollers and shopping bags:scared1: It was a mess!

Syko- Great job on all your races! Very impressive:thumbsup2

Allie- I had chafing issues for the first time ever at the Disney Half. Had never used body glide and never needed it except that day:confused3 I used some neosporin and it healed up pretty quickly. Luckily I was in FL and able to walk around in a loose fitting skirt. Happy healing:goodvibes

Casey- Congrats on the PR and half marathon! You're fast! Those candy apples sure look yummy:)

Go Team:cheer2:

I"ve been avoiding all threads that make me accountable! Just a true funk I've been in.

Last night dh ran and came in so proud that he finally did 9 1/2 min miles! :faint: so I again, realize... only *I* can do this. *I* know it... but I feel like I'm a addict... addicted to laziness! A true couch potato.... So I sat on the couch and watched Dancing with the stars, and Biggest Loser, and darned if the whiner Lara didnt do a Half Marathon... it was like looking in the mirror, only she moved forward!

so must I...

I did 2 miles today.. very slowly, but that was 35 min of straight workout for me! Twice as long as I've done in a month!

Good evening Buzzies! Thought I'd drop by your thread again...

Kirsti~Louise: Congrats on winning the PH. And for doing all you're doing to represent WISH. I'm proud to have you as a WISHmate and look forward to meeting you at a Disney race. Oh, and congrats on CNLBank Winter Park Road Race. You did great, but I'm sorry to hear you were racing on your rims. It's definitely not a chair-friendly course. :sad2:

Allie: Have a great time in Hotlanta. (Hopefully you can check in here from time to time.) You couldn't PAY me to spend time with my parents, but they don't live in a cool (or rather, hot) city. Keep up with that training while you're gone. After all, you'll be running the CMM (1/2) "with" Dane from the Biggest Loser (who's "redeeming" himself with the full).

Ouch on the compression short situation. I have the same problem with the shorts for the NB Flare skirt, but didn't experience the friction luckily. I think it's a problem with fit--I like my clothes loose and that's not good with compression clothing. (But I don't like how I look in compression clothing. Waaaaah me, I know. :charac2:) I think your idea to wear hose on both legs is a good one. Sorry, no real suggestion for the healing process, although maybe Neosporin, gauze and a medical bandage wrap might be more comfortable.

Jessica: 6 hours on the WiiFit. Just more proof how addictive it is. :worship: I so, so want one. I'm glad you've got a couple of races in mind. Is the 10-miler the Broad Street Run? I think Kira ran that one last year--or maybe it's this year? It's supposed to be quite fun.

Debbie: So, you experience March madness? Who are you rooting for? Yay for having a sunny walk--it makes everything so much better during spring training.)

Mike: It sounds as if we're on similar maintenance schedules--mine is 3x/week. I'm lulling the legs into forgetting we're on a fall racing schedule. That way, I hope they'll forgive me for the Dopey. :rotfl2:

Duane: Great job on the Komen RftC. I know you wanted to break 23, but a PR is excellent. Plus, being that consistent on splits is a nice bonus. I'm with you on preferring the 1/2 distance over the 5K. I'm slow, not speedy, like you, but I enjoy getting into my tortoise zone and being in the moment.

Chris: Have you decided on a race yet. We're in a similar situation here--we sign up at the last minute, depending on schedule and budget. But Duane's right. Nothing like a race to put a little spring in your step.

Lisa: Sorry to hear abut your leg. But I'm so proud of you for sitting out of a free race rather than risk further injury--very smart. (And how tempting that must have been. Wow.) An adventure run sounds like a great deal of fun. Sort of like a local EE. :yay:

Sandy: It sounds like you've had several epiphanies recently, with DH and the reality shows. There's nothing like BL to make me feel guilty enough to put down my ice cream and do a few crunches. Even without Jillian. (Maybe that's why I don't watch it much any more. :rotfl: ) WTG with getting out there and doing it! :thumbsup2

Have a great evening and weekend Buzzies!

Happy Spring and Friday to all the Buzzies out there.....

Going to sign up this weekend for a half here in Columbus and then a 5k for our Relay. May do the Race for the Cure also so that would be 3 weekends in a row. Woo Hoo.

I need something man because I'm tired of running in place! :lmao:

Lets go buzzies!

Good for you, Chris! The races sound like the key to getting out of that rut!

Debra, thanks for popping in! My main interest in March Madness is trying to stay out of last place in the office pool. Toward that goal, I am pulling for Pitt and Memphis. DH is a big Tar Heel fan and I have kept up the pretense of being one for almost 20 years (shhhh.......).

Sandy, keep moving forward! You are right -- you CAN and WILL do it!

Well, I did another 3 miler yesterday at with the dreaded R4/W1 interval (you can see that I'm easing myself into this :lmao: ). I'm happy to report that it was a bit easier this time and a smidge faster, too.

:stitch:'Ohana Monday Mixer :stitch:

Please join us on the 'Ohana team thread for the Monday Mixer. The Mixer starts here.

There are many reasons why we race. Sometimes it's a way to challenge ourselves. Sometimes it's a strategy to keep ourselves motivated. Sometimes it's a reason to reunite with old friends and meet new ones. And sometimes, just sometimes, it's about the goodies. :teeth:

This week's question is about those goodies:

What is your favorite medal/t-shirt/race-bag goody, and WHY?

So come on over to 'Ohana. Share with us your favorite pictures and stories. Brag about the bling. If you haven't done a medal-awarding event, tell us about a shirt. If you love a particular expo, we want to know why. And if you're new to races, visit anyway. You can get some ideas for future races and "ooh" and "ahhh" over the pretty, shiny things.

On a more serious note: Two of our 'Ohana cousins, Maria and Richard, could use some extra hugs, well wishes, and PD this week. If you've got the time, please let them know you're thinking of them.

Hey Buzzies,
Just a drive by to say hello and to move us back up the board.

Off today. Getting ready for a cup of coffee and a good morning run. I love spring time! :mickeyjum

Mike I know what you mean. I wasn't going to run yesterday but got home a little early, around 6:00 and it was so beautiful i decided to go for a run. I ruined it by doing some speed workouts that had me totally drained, but it sure was nice out.

enjoy everyone!
Duane

Duane I noticed that you are doing the West Palm Beach marathon this year, have you do it before????
If you have could you please tell me what the course is like as I am thinking of doing it. They have a large and very fast hand crank section and it would do me good to race with the "big boys", but I am doing Space Coast the weekend before so I don't want a "hard" course.

First time out yeasterday since Craks was fixed and as it was raining my DH decided that I should learn what it is like to aquaplain.
Well I did as I was told and my front wheel fell off!!!!!!! :scared1:
I was thrown off in to the middle of the road, and I did not skid at all!!!!!!
Next time he has an idea he can try it out.

YIKES!!!:scared1::scared1::scared1: Hope you are ok. Most definitely DH needs to "test" next time. ::yes:: Have you been able to fix the wheel yet? Hope your next try is better. :goodvibes

Thanks for the hug Allie.
I'm fine, I have a lot of padding to cushion my landing.:rotfl:
We went ot the shop in the afternoon and got it fixed, today I did 13 miles.

I forgot to say when I was waiting for DH to come back with the car to pick me up the sprinklers can on (I was sitting on the edge of the sidewalk) and I got drenched.:lmao:

Oh, I'm sure that was quite a site! and I hope DH felt a little guilty for the suggestion. ;):guilty:

I'm glad everything turned out ok, and you have a good sense of humor about it.:thumbsup2 Today I did nuthin'. I have had a sick daughter for two days, so she got an extended Spring Break, but she is all better now, and going back to school tomorrow! :cheer2::yay::thumbsup2

syko - Every week is another adventure for you! It's inspiring to to hear you keep such a positive attitude through everything. :thumbsup2

I signed up for another half marathon on April 4 in Lake Havasu City, AZ. I've been thinking about it for a couple weeks but wanted to wait until after this past weekend to see how my leg was feeling. Thank goodness everything seems to be working properly again. The race should be a nice course along the lake, and we get to run over the famous London Bridge twice. (Click here for the Wikipedia description of how the London Bridge ended up in Arizona.)

I'll add a third vote for loving spring. During the winter, when it's dark by the time I get home from work, it's so hard to leave the house again to work out. But now I'm eager to be outside, enjoying the sunshine. I'm even thinking about buying a bicycle to ride for cross training and to and from the gym. It's probably been about 10 years since I've ridden a bike. The BF and I are going to look at bikes tomorrow, so we'll see...

When you run over the London bridge, perhaps they will give you tea instead of water.:rotfl:

Get a bike is a great idea, how to ride it will soon come back to you.

OK, is it just me or is anyone else laughing? :rotfl: Knowing you are OK that is.

I'm not signed up for the West Palm marathon this year. Sorry I can't help.

enjoy,
Duane

Duane I was laughing too once the sprinklers started!!!!!:lmao:

I'm sorry, but I thought you where.
