Wendy posted this on the Lean Meaner thread and her words resonated with me, so I thought I'd pass it along as it serves as the inspiration for this week's mixer. :flower3:

It feels like Spring in my head-- a time for cleaning out the junk, renewing my resolve, and enjoying all that is beautiful around me. It's a renewed hope thing -- Do you feel that way, too?

So, WISHers, springtime is in the air as well as on the calendar. And even if your neighborhood isn't enjoying springlike weather quite yet, it's fun to plan for that day that's just around the corner. So this week's set of related prompts are...

What outdoor activity (or activities) do you most look forward to in the spring, and why? What is an annual spring tradition for you? How do you enjoy that first, perfect spring day?

Feel free to talk about prepping the bike for the season's first ride or the first run in shorts. But we're also interested in hearing about other activities: gardening, kite-flying, spring cleaning, picnics, roller blading, hiking, and so on.

So tell us your stories. The 'Ohana Monday Mixer starts here.

Alright Buzzies, it's the end of the month, time to report those glowing numbers!!!!:goodvibes

Let's mak'em BIG and BOLD so it's easy for Chris to spot. ;)

I'll report mine when I get back from my walk. :rolleyes1

Oh, and Chris I saw that you were on FB. Waiting for a friend reply...:rolleyes1

Any other Buzzies on FB. Let me know in a PM, and I'll be your friend!

Oh, funny story just happened. I usually walk with my neighbor in the morning after the kids get on the bus. Well, when my DD walked over to their house there was a big clap of thunder and lightning. She asked if I wanted to walk, and I told her that we could do one round, and see what the weather does. Well, we had more lightning when we walked to the bus stop. Then the rain came, so we decided to cancel. I made a flip comment, "well our fitness stops with lightning". To which my neighbor responded, "well we can't be healthy if we're dead!":rotfl2: We decided not to be human lightning rods. ;) So we stood in her garage till the rain passed so that Shadow and I could go back home. While we were in there, it started to hail! :scared1: If we would have continued our walk we would have been pummeled to death, all for the sake of our fitness.

Hope that is as funny as it was in person. ;)

Hail:scared1: We had some hail around here on Sunday evening with a little tornado action. What's up with this crazy weather lately? Glad you stayed safe! I sent you a PM with my name on FB.

Great Jessica! Sent you a "friend" request!!

Yeah, this weather is something else. It snowed here on March 1st and now Hail on March 31st.

I think March is wanting to be a lion on both ends. :rotfl:

Allie you made me laugh, it was so hot today when I went out I would have liked some rain!!!!!

syko - So glad I could bring you some funny today! :goodvibes

Chris:

Here are my totals for March:

Miles: 61.12

Hours: 18:58:54

I am just three and a half weeks away from my first half marathon. :scared1::yay::scared: <- those represent all the emotions I feel inside.

MAR. MILES = 58.6; HOURS = 15, MINUTES = 46

I have been working out; just out of the loop on reading/posting. Had a sick child for a few days, company for a couple of days, etc. Hope all the Buzzies are doing well!

I just finished reading the book A Race Like No Other -- it's an account of the 2007 NYC Marathon. I enjoyed it a lot. Of course, it made me want to run NYC. Pretty sure that feeling will go away, though. :)

March
Miles: 82.8
Time: 14 hours and 3 minutes

The Princess 5k and 1/2 helped boost my miles for March. But I didn't get in much cross training in March (unless walking around WDW counts ;)). I need to work on that for April. My new bike should help! When it arrives, that is. I had to have it special ordered so I'm still waiting for it to come in...

Helloooo, Buzzies! I hate to do a drive-by, but this one's for Chris

Chris, when you get a chance, can you check your team roster against the one on the first page of the recruitment thread? I'm temporarily placing people on teams until Susie returns, and want to make sure teams remain balanced when new requests come in. If you've got WISHers who dropped out, let me know. I'm keeping the updated, April rosters on this post.

Y'all look like you're putting in those miles! And I know you're going to have a great April, too, what with the CMM and all. :woohoo:

Hey Everybody,
Here's my 'March' to the marathon. Hope all are doing well. Take care!

Miles 35.1
Time 6:38

Hi Buzzies!

Sorry I'm late with my March info:

I hope everyone is doing great!

Cross-train 625 minutes

Total 107.7 miles

I'll be back to catch up!

Duane

The mixer starts here...

Variety is the spice of life, so they say. (But don't ask me who they are, although I suspect they work for McCormick. :confused3) With that in mind, this week's mixer question is:

What types of XT do you like to do, and why? What are your old favorites and new discoveries? What kind of XT would you like to try?

Anecdotes and pictures are welcomed. I think we'd really like to hear about the benefits of your XT--physical, mental, social. Does it create a stronger core or more flexibility? Does it help you de-stress? Is it something you enjoy with your kids, partner, friends? It might also be helpful to know how you work XT within your walking/running schedule.

Extra points for XT activities that are unusual or have funny names or rituals. As determined by popular vote. And in case you're wondering, those points have no monetary value whatsoever. (I'll make up other disclaimers as I think of them.)

Hey Buzzies,

It's awfully quiet around here. Hope everyone's doing well! Please report in when you have time... I need something to read when I'm bored at work.

For those who don't read the race reports/encouragement/kudos thread, I had a great time at my half marathon on Satuday and finished with a new PR of 2:08:45. :cool1: I wasn't even trying for a PR, but somehow everything just came together and I felt strong through the entire run.

I wrote a couple weeks ago that I was thinking about buying a bike. I can't remember if I told you that I actually did buy one. They had to special order it, so I wasn't able to actually pick it up until Saturday afternoon. I went out for my first ride on Sunday. It was a lot of fun, even though I was sore in the seat area for a couple days afterward.

So I've decided my next big goal is to complete a duathlon, and where better to do that than Disneyland? It's a 1.5 mile run, 10 mile bike, and 2 mile run on June 14. Here's the link for more information if you're interested: http://www.trekwomenstriathlonseries.com/southern_california.html. I did 8.8 miles during the ride on Sunday, so I know I can do the distance, I just need to work on my speed. Oh, and how to get on and off the bike gracefully. :lmao:

Great job on the half. That is awesome.

What kind of bike did you get? I rode a Specialized Sirrus the other day. I fell in love but don't want to part with the money yet. It's not top end but still costs $550. Yikes :scared1:

"I went out for my first ride on Sunday. It was a lot of fun, even though I was sore in the seat area for a couple days afterward."

OK, this is an adult board, you can say butt :) That is an issue with me too since I don't ride enough. About 1 hour is all I can take.

I am looking at a tri but will probably wait until fall or next year.

enjoy,
Duane
