Buzz's Brigade 2009 - Moving to Infinity and Beyond!!!

Checking in. I have been so blah lately. I don't want to get out of bed much less run. It's finally getting sunny here, so I am really hoping to push myself outside soon. I have Bloomsday (Spokane, WA) next month and I am seriously considering the Rock N Roll half in Seattle in June, so I have to run soon or pay in pain. :(

For March, I had 1.5 hours, those were tennis with my daughter who decided to join the tennis team even though she'd never played in her life. lol. She's loving it, though and it does get me outside to help her practice.

To infinity and beyond!

What kind of bike did you get? I rode a Specialized Sirrus the other day. I fell in love but don't want to part with the money yet. It's not top end but still costs $550. Yikes :scared1:

OK, this is an adult board, you can say butt :) That is an issue with me too since I don't ride enough. About 1 hour is all I can take.

LOL. Got it. No need to be so polite next time. :)

I got a Specialized women's Myka. It was $400, which seemed pricey to me at first. (Remember, I haven't ridden a bike since maybe middle school and I think my parents bought it at Toys R Us.) But then my boyfriend reminded me that I've already spent that much on running shoes in just a little over a year.

Way to go Lisa :cheer2: and good luck for your duathlon..

Thanks! How are you doing? Any races coming up?

Ugh, I'm not a morning person either. I usually do all my running in the late afternoon or evening. It's really nice now that the days are getting longer so I don't have to do my after work runs in the dark.

Have you done Bloomsday before? Isn't it one of the largest events in the US? I'll be at the RnR 1/2 in Seattle, so let us know if you decide to go. Don't forget, it's an inaugural event. And as other Buzzies have said, it really helps to have a goal to work towards. You can do it!

Bloomsday is a huge event, some 55,000 people or so and everyone is timed. This will be my 4th. I go with my daughter, so my time will always be really slow, but it's fun with her. Last year I took the whole family (6 of us) and it was painfully slow. This year will be my dd, oldest ds and me. I would just be happy doing it in under 2 hours.

As for RnR, I'm looking for where to stay. I want to take the family because I love Seattle and want to spend some time there, but hotels are so expensive and I'm not sure where would be the best place location wise to stay. Any suggestions? :)

Jessica - some of us are going to be staying at the Hampton Inn/Tukwila. It is near the race start and since it isn't downtown Seattle the cost is much more reasonable. Hope to see you there!

:stitch: 'OHANA MONDAY MIXER :stitch:

The mixer starts HERE on the thread.

A spring chick told me that many of us gave up goodies for Lent. Now that Lent has ended, Monday is a good time for this mixer question:

What is one healthy food you always have in your kitchen? What is one less-than-healthy food you always have in your kitchen?

Feel free to post pictures, talk about how the foods help you in your training (either as nutrition or reward), and confess to guilty pleasures and happy indulgences!

I'm out of action for a bit as I have an olecranon fracture, total time to mend could be up to 12 weeks.:scared1:
At least race season is over for me as I was not going out of state this year.

Oh no! Here's hoping for a quick recovery!

What is that? :confused3

Hope you aren't in a lot of pain.

So sorry to hear that -- I hope it heals quickly!

I think it is an elbow fracture (thank goodness for Google). Sure sounds painful.

Keep us posted --

Heads up, dear Wish teams, members and fans! We are doing another mixer. This one is dedicated to Vicky, our own little bunnyfoo!

The question is this: What is your favorite vegetable recipe? Double points if it is not just a sidedish or salad! The points can be cashed in duing marathon weekend when you see how your recipe helped us all become lythe and sleek, knowing beyond a doubt that we, all of WISH, are the best team there!!

Can't wait for dinner, now! See ya! Connie, captain of Hakuna Matata!

Thank you are for the wishes.
Yep its an elbow fracture, and it sure does hurt, the problem is that i'm left handed and it my left elbow.
I hate that I can't crank, as I really enjoy it, but better now than Dopey time.

Everybody!

Don't forget the vegetable mixer at Hakuna Matata, today! We really need your ideas!!!

Wanted to make sure I got this so that Allie can see this first thing in the morning, assuming she checks in tomorrow:

HAPPY BIRTHDAY, ALLIE!
:dance3::bday:party::cake::drinking1

I hope your special day is everything you hoped for. And that you're celebrating too much to see this for a week afterwards! :goodvibes

:stitch: 'Ohana Monday Mixer :stitch:

And now for a bit of silliness, just because... :teeth: The mixer starts here.

This week's mixer theme is "Superpowers That Would Be More Trouble Than They're Worth," and your question:

What would be the superpower you would end up being granted?

Some examples:
  • The ability to tell the future, but only one minute ahead of time.
  • Super-strength, but only in your thumbs.
  • The ability to read the minds of people whose language you don't understand.
  • The ability to see through one layer of clothes.
  • Super breath, strong enough to knock down your opponents. Unfortunately, it's because you're smells like garlic and you always have that power.

Of course, your superpower is unique to you. So feel free to tell us what you would do with your power or why you got so lucky as to be given it. :rolleyes1 Bonus points--again, they're worth nothing--for telling us what superpowers you think other WISHers might get. (Keep it DIS-friendly, though, folks!)

:woohoo: ALLIE!! :woohoo::woohoo:

Hope you had fun doing the Half today!! :yay:

Great idea, Sandy! :goodvibes

Congratulations on your first 1/2 half, Allie. Hope you had fun! (And you're ready to sign up for your next one soon. :woohoo:)

:yay: Allie!! YOU did it!! :cheer2: Your first Half!! and your first half is NOT supposed to be a PB!! (personal best!) Your time is very respectable!! :goodvibes

Allie, congratulations on your PB--and on your first 1/2 AND a very hot, tough course. :goodvibes

:stitch: 'Ohana Monday Mixer :stitch:

I've been thinking about how to create a hot topic for this week's mixer question. Turns out, the weather cooperated with me. :lmao:

Many areas of the country experienced above average temperatures this weekend, which made many of our weekend distances uncomfortable. (I was thinking especially of how the weather affected the racers at CMM, particularly our very special WISHers). So this week's mixer topic, which starts here on the 'Ohana thread:

What are your training/racing/recovery tips and strategies for hot-weather conditions?

Feel free to tell us how you alter your routines: when you go out, what gear you use or what you wear, how you hydrate and fuel differently, how to recognize danger signs, how you keep cool and/or recover from overheating, and when you decide to shorten/quit/take it inside.

As we all know, going out in the heat can be dangerous, so please help all of us by sharing your knowledge. :thumbsup2
