Buzz's Brigade 2009 - Moving to Infinity and Beyond!!!

Alli OMG - I had no idea I was on a team!!! Thanks for coming to get me!! :goodvibes

Now what do I need to post?

I admit, I went over to Disneyrunning and joined a Biggest loser team - it just seemed to fit...

Hi, my name is Sandy - and I have low self esteem - I think it got lower when my weight increased... I'm working on it! I'm from Chicagoland area - and I by chanced joined WISH to prep for the '08 marathon :cool1: I have such fond memories of the WISH team getting me across that finish line, and sad memories that I wasnt an official winner (I didnt get swept, but I got there after they turned off the time! *sniff)

so this time, I have to do better!

Posting your Mileage/Hours -
Please keep track of your mileage and report it monthly. If you want to still post your mileage weekly or heck even daily that's alright too, but please keep a running total for the month however you want. If you want to keep it in your signature or in each post for each month you can do that too.

Well I started keeping track Monday... I only have 3 miles to report and 1 hour of exercise...

Hey Guys!!! Sandy is my bestest WISH friend. She is the first DIS/WISH person I met in real life. There's photo proof of our meeting in one of those TR's in her siggy. ;)

Welcome to the Buzzies Sandy!!

THE SUN IS SHINING IN CHICAGOLAND :cool1: True to form its very windy!! :rotfl2: (so there is a nip in the wind chill) BUT I still put on shorts (with a coat!) and got outside!! :cool1:

Sandy, I'm glad you have a pretty day! It is beautiful here, too, and we're headed for a warm weekend. I can't wait! :yay: I just don't do cold weather very well.

OK, I know I seriously need to get a life b/c I'm so excited about uploading a pic of my childhood WTP for my avatar. Isn't he cute, though?

Hi Buzzies. Welcome to Sandy!

I got in a 7 mile run today, it's sunny and 70 here at the moment. I'm getting ready to go to packet pick-up in just a bit, as I'm running the Red Rock 1/2 Marathon this weekend. I'm also going to CA this weekend after the race and we might go to Disneyland while there. Hope everyone is doing well with their training.

Casey - Good luck and have fun in Disneyland! :goodvibes

Debbie - I like your Pooh! :cutie:

Sandy - Glad you finally got some nice weather up there. :cool2:

Well, I haven't been able to run since my LR last Saturday, and not sure I will be able to get any before this week's. Just been crazy busy. I did 6 last week, and will do 7 this week.

Hi Everyone.

Casey, can't wait to hear about the Red Rock half. But let's see you are then going to get in a car and drive 4+ hours? You're crazy girl!

enjoy,
Duane

Great job Debbie getting the REAL Pooh to give you a picture. You know he's a Star!pooh:

And oh yeah :welcome: Sandy. Climb aboard the Buzzie train (pun intented)!:dogdance:

Did a 3 miler around the Y track yesterday -- usually I W2/R1, but I've been playing around with the intervals some just for "fun" and variety. Well, yesterday I did W1/R4 and was reminded why I chose more walking/less running in the first place! I finished the 3 miles in 34 minutes, 20 sec. -- well, I can do it in 36 minutes at W2/R1. That's a lot more running w/out much gain in pace. :confused3 I guess it would add up to 6-7 minutes over a half marathon, but I am not sure it's worth it ;)

It was pretty funny how different it felt effort-wise compared to what I'm used to -- I think that means it's good to change things up a little now and then!

Thinking about our Princess racers this a.m. :cheer2:

Good point. Our bodies get so used to what we are doing. We need to change it up a bit just to throw the body off.

enjoy,
Duane

Allie just getting the team behind you while you are doing your long run today - it may feel tough now, but you'll feel tougher when its done!! :cool1:

Thanks again Sandy!!! You were a tremendous help.

To fill the rest of you in: ;)

I was running my 7 miler today, and I had a breakdown at 2.5 miles. I mean tears, defeated, etc. I had to take a break, and called Sandy. She talked me through it and I ended up finishing although I walked ALOT the last mile. I finished in 1:41, so it wasn't terrible. Boy I am beat though. I won't do a LR without doing anything AT ALL during the week again. There were so many factors that made that run hard. It was hot - 75, or at least hotter than anything I have run in recently. I was running out of water, and didn't have somewhere to refill it. I didn't eat much before the run. I was up until 1:00 AM with my son working on the props for the banquet he and the other teens have to put on tonight at church. I didn't do any exercise this week to see if that would help my knee/hip - it DID NOT! So suffice it to say that it was one of the hardest things I have ever done.

The important thing is that I DID IT!!

Allie, We ALL have runs like that, where the stars seem to align against us. Luckily, we all have runs where everything seems to work out, too. I'm sure you'll have more of the latter. I hope that you recognize the strength in completing the tough run. It will make your victory on future runs and at the CMM all the more sweet.

And Sandy, thanks for being a great WISHer and supporting my girl Allie through this. I hope you're enjoying the great Chicago weather this weekend.

Debbie: Great job of mixing things up and challenging yourself, even if you find your current intervals work well for you. I agree with Duane--I often do, as it turns out--that it's a good thing to keep our physical bodies guessing as to their next challenge.

Casey: I hope your Red River Rock 1/2 was fun and, well, that it rocked!

Mike: See you Monday at the Mixer? And can I enjoy the Buzz(ie) train. Sounds psychedelic.

Donna: Hope you're feeling better and coughing less.

Jessica: Great mileage for the month!

Chris: You're a great captain--I love being able to catch up with the Buzzie's accomplishments so easily!

Pat, Wendy, Kirsite~Louise, Lisa1 and Lisa2 (you can choose who is Thing1 and Thing2), and any other princesses I missed: I hope you've have a great time at the Princess weekend. We miss you--and I envy you, too! :cool1: Bring us back cool stories.

All other Buzzies:  (Because I love the dancing banana!)

Hello Again Team....

Got in a 7 miler today and while the run wasn't great I got it in. It was 75 out which was a huge jump what the weather had been. Really windy too. I'll take that over cold, but it doesn't look like it will last.

Can't wait for the RFTT to open up so I can finally sign up for something for 2009. Not many races in these parts and from the look at the summer schedule I may not get to do many races. Looks like they are cutting back.

Anywho hope everyone is having a great weekend and enjoying the weather if you are lucky like we are today.

Lets go BUZZ'S BRIGADE!!!!! :dance3: :cheer2:  :cool1: :yay:

Thanks Debra! I would have called you too, but I don't have your number. :headache: But the thought did go through my head that you would have been a good choice to call. ;) I'm just glad Sandy was able to take my call, or I probably would have called my DH to come pick me up. :sad1:

Chris - I think the temp. was part of my problem too. 76 here, and I had already drunk half my water by 2.5 miles, and no where on the route to stop and get a refill, :scared1: unless I stopped complete strangers at their house and asked for a refill. :rolleyes1 Luckily, I made it back around to my Publix and ran into their bathroom and got a refill at 6 miles. :thumbsup2

Let's go BUZZIES!!!!!
:cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2: :cheer2:

:stitch: 'Ohana Monday Mixer :stitch:

Mental Health Day

We all know that our mental-health days are just as important as our workouts, recovery days, and proper fueling. So, Monday's question for the 'Ohana mixer, which starts here on the team thread, is....

If you had an unexpected free day--no work or other obligations--and $20 to spend just on you, what would you do?

So please share those small indulgences that are essential to your mental well-being. Hopefully, we'll get new ideas and find kindred souls.

There are three little rules. Just because.

  1. You have to spend at least part of the $20 on you. No giving it away, no saving it for a rainy day, and no spending the $20 entirely on your beloved partner, cute kidlets, or BFF. You can spend time with these folks, of course, and some of the money. But the focus is on YOU and what you want to do.
  2. You can choose to work out, if you wish, or your mental health day can coincide with a recovery day.
  3. What you do on your mental health day has to reflect your everyday, local life. No "I just happened to be in Paris..." :rotfl2: You can imagine, however, that you have perfect weather.

As usual, full stories that are related to your mental-health day are welcome. Not to mention the odd digression! And you're always welcome to bring drinks, goodies, and profound thoughts on the meaning of life.
