Hello!

I recall that we are now able to buy a number of points needed for a trip, as in, you have 150 left, but need 200 for a particular visit.

Can anyone jog my memory on this new(er) policy? How many can you buy in this scenario and what is the cost?

Thanks in advance!

Stacey

DVC will sell you up to 24 one-time-use pts at the 7 month window for $15 per pt.

if you need 200, you would ideally have some banked from the previous year and then borrow the rest from the next year.

alternatively, you could look for a transfer from another member. there is some risk to this and you would need to find all 200 from one member, as you only get one transfer per year.

(edited to add: noticed you only needed 50 pts but the information is basically the same.)

I have also rented points from another member, with that member making the reservation for the additional day or two needed. Then we linked the reservation that I had made with the one the other member made...to keep from moving, etc.

Renting by the way is a lot easier than asking for someone to transfer points to you. One can only transfer 1x/year and no one is really willing to 'waste' a transfer for only a small number of points...

Thats very interesting, would you mind explaining how you did this? That would come in very handy for an upcoming trip. We are kind of in the same boat as you except we need around 30 points.

Thanks!

Both reservation segments, the one you made and the one made for you by a member need to be same resort/villa size/view
(ie Boardwalk/2 br villa/standard view) to be linked for one seamless stay. You would call MS with the DVC reservation number that the other member booked for you and then ask MS to link it to the DVC reservation you made, just know MS will not guarantee that you will not have to change rooms but chances are very good that you will remain in same room & just need to stop off at the front desk on day 2nd reservation begins to have key card recoded.

Why would you buy extra vacation points? You can just borrow from the next year. That's what I do.

I can't wait to go!!!! Staying at Old Key West.

Possibly they do not want to borrow becasue they have plans for the points the next year.

That is right OR they could have already borrowed the maximum number of points and are still short ...especially if they are reserving larger accomodations.

The name on each reservation must also be exactly the same. I have also received info from MS in the past stating that the member holding the "second" reservation was the one who had to call to link and then again I was told by MS that it should be done with a 3-way call.

The first thing I would try is to get a 50 point transfer from someone on the Rent/Trade board. Yes it would use the person's 1 time per year transfer but they may only have 50 or so points that need to be transfered. I don't have any point to rent/transfer this year but when I do it's normally a small amount.

So you can only buy the extra points at the 7-month window? That would put in kink in my plans. I'm 1-point short and my 11-month window is next month.

So if I'm short 1-point I'll have to wait and see if the room is still available at 7-months?? That would suck :headache:. Maybe I should come up with a Plan B.

For one point I would just borrow.
