Buying Riviera Resale Yes, no, hell no?

Why would I be jealous? I just got back from Peru. I'm going to Hawaii in a few months, and London next fall. Two of my last three WDW trips were in BWV Grand Villas. I haven't been to WDW in five years and don't have plans to go back currently - I've been using my points at HHI (and Aulani this year). If I wanted to stay at Riviera I'd just book it - my points are good there. I don't see the point in posting about my perceived emotional state at all, unless you are a busybody who likes to stir up trouble.
I am hardly a busy body :rotfl2: and I could care less where you vacation:worship: you should read what you write sometime :rolleyes1

I wouldn't buy resale even though we definitely loved 3 stays at RR (yes, I call it RR) .

We love split stays and that would be impossible with RR points. Also too much pressure to be able to use the exact number of resale RR points at RR. Afraid Disney is going to screw up borrowing points as they are doing now.

Actually it works great for split stays, if you want a few nights at RIV and all your points can be used there too.

That is what I will do with my resale. Use those first and fill in the rest of the stay with other points. Obviously not as flexible as other ones.

I always read what I write. But I don't see any reason why I'd be jealous of Riv owners. See my lack of knowledge on the status of resale restrictions. I don't care enough to stay up to date.

They are as applicable as Riviera is as nice as the Four Seasons. If you are going to claim that RIV is as nice as some of the best hotels in the world, then all comparisons are applicable.
Not sure why you think I’m claiming that Riviera is as nice as some of the best hotels in the world. I’m just saying that in my opinion, quality of service and amenities aside, I don‘t think there’s a world of distance between the rooms at the Four Seasons and the Riviera. Can’t speak for the Intercontinental in Bangkok, other than to say that when we were there we stayed at the Millenium and didn‘t like it. Riviera is much better.

I say this with all honesty..... I don't see the Riviera as "gray" in color. Maybe my eyes process color differently. But I see the exterior as off-white, and the interiors are a more brilliant white. The whole resort feels bright and airy. It's what my wife hates about the Jambo and Poly lobbies -- dark and cavernous. While the RIV has a bright, airy, casual elegance.
And it's odd that you would compare the rooms to a "Midwestern downtown Hyatt" -- BY FAR, the Riviera has the most elegant rooms of any on-site property at Disney, surpassing the Grand Floridian easily. (that might change with the GFV renovation).

Maybe it's me... but it's the Grand Floridian rooms that look like they are from a cheap chain hotel, while the Riviera rooms actually exude some finesse.
Agreed, but the location and features of the Grand Floridian are very impressive, and their one bedrooms are cozy and comfortable. Lake views are better than any view at Riviera too in my opinion.

It’s too late to turn the ship around on Riviera, and I don’t see why they would on Disneyland tower. I guess DVC will have tough choices to make on the next property. I see the restrictions staying in place, they’re much better in the long run for Disney.
Well, at least you’re not picking on Aulani. :) Thought the line about being trapped like “servants in the beast’s castle” was pretty funny though.

I know Crisi claims to read her own posts but I’m pretty sure she meant to type “troll” but mis-typed “busy-body.” Hope that clears up any confusion for ya! :rolleyes1

Regarding Riviera resale, we bought direct back during the pandemic and bought for close to what resale is listing at now. Hubby and I LOVE LOVE LOVE the resort, but when we we traveled in August the Skyliner stranded us at either Epcot or the resort at 3 random times over 2 days of needing it. My feeling is if the Riviera were at BWI, BC, BLT of GF’s location, it would be a no brainer and I’d buy resale in heartbeat. But relying on that system seeing how they upkeep the monorail makes me worried. Our next trip is booked to stay at GF. Can’t do that with resale.

I’m in the hell no camp…I like the rooms and location but in my opinion, they don’t justify the points chart. I’m also not a fan of the Skyliner and since all my points are either direct or grandfathered resales, I don’t want to have to keep up with which points can be used at which resorts. I currently own at BC and prefer that property to any other in the area and at my current age, the 2042 expiration is not a problem.

Probably no on Riviera resale for me. I'd buy in direct if I wanted to get a blue card, but I wouldn't get it resale because I like my resale points to be SAPs. I would like to stay there sometime, but prefer more flexibility. That being said, I plan to use my direct points to stay there, and then maybe after that if it's really a great experience I'll change my mind on resale

Nice use of word structure guess someone needs to buy some friends :rolleyes1

We stayed last Feb in a Standard 1BR. The resort itself was lovely, although we couldn't really experience the full QS due to covid restrictions.

We are not skyliner fans - they work well for daytime/non-peak travel, but at park open and close we stood in line forever (then ended up getting an uber). Our Epcot home is BCV, and we would prefer to stay there for location alone.
