Buying refillable mugs on ebay

I'd like to hear of ONE case of somebody being poisoned by drinking out of a used cup! (assuming they washed it before using).

Do you guys ever get out? Go to the movies? Use public transportation? Swim at Blizzard Beach?

Germs everywhere, unless you want to live in a bubble.

Mary: germs are everywhere but they get stronger all the time due to misuse of antibiotics, antibacterial soap, etc. It is best to avoid them the best you can. Hooray for hand sanitizer!

Imagine that, something changed within the last 5 years. Unless you live in a bubble, things/rules do change.
Also, don't make your kids Kool Aid in the same pitcher you feed your plants their fertilizer.

When you go to the movies do you get there early and try to find a popcorn box and soda cup that someone has left on the floor? If so you can probably wipe it off and get it refilled for free!

Thanks for the tip. I didn't know they had refills at the movies.

Now what did this have to do with this thread? No one is advocating going dumpster diving for mugs. The discussion is really just based on what the rules say now and what some (most) people were told when purchasing. Most then make their decision based on one or the other, which is an individual choice. I wonder why this just bothers some people so much (but not Disney), that they would make a statement like the above?

Why pay for something you can get free? And that everyone else is getting free?
Why Gillian?
it's called integrity

The "everybody else does it/Disney doesn't REALLY care" defense gets to me every time this subject comes up.
I like to teach my kids to be honest. After all, what is that saying, oh yeah:
Integrity is doing the right thing, even if nobody is watching.

IMO if you can afford a trip to WDW, even on a budget, you can afford to pay a few dollars more for a endless supply of drinks, with a bonus mug that is yours to keep.

I too bought some mugs back when there was no sign that said I couldn't bring them back. Now the rules have changed, and I am smart enough to know that those rules now apply to my old mugs.
The argument of " the rules were different when I bought mine " is just rationalizing, when you know deep down it is wrong.
The "coke is cheap" arguement is also wrong...all that coke does add up to big numbers and soon we are talking real money:smooth:
Guess who pays for it? All of us, in increased prices.
The "Disney overcharges us on everything else" arguement... don't go to WDW then!!!!!!!!!

We stayed at POP this time and bought new mugs. They didn't tell us we could bring them back this time, and so we won't.

That said, being smart (and insinuating that someone isn't) has nothing to do with it..what the person who runs and has the say-so at the food courts say..that is what it has to do with. . Just this past September, with signs in place, the cm's at the register and the food court manager at the All Star Music were telling people to bring the mugs back. He happens to have (according to Disney "suits") the right to do that in his food court. At POR, they were telling people the mugs were good at any resort (that's the second time I heard someone being told that..although we have never done that..but I understand why someone would..after being told to). "Suits" were in the food court (discussing with planners the refurbishment still to come), and we discussed it..they too had no problem with it.

So to call it stealing, is a bit overboard, IMO. People using 7-11 mugs and bread bags..that is stealing. They were never told to bring them back.

As far as saying Disney doesn't care if mugs are re-used,..well, heck if the food court manager and the CM's say it's ok (and encourage it to get you to purchase), then really, again IMO, the people on these board have no say..apparently Disney really DOESN'T care, and if bothers others that the people who have the right to tell you to bring them back, say it, I would suggest you not look when people refill. After all, it is really up to Disney employees, not us.

And if you don't feel right refilling, even being told to bring them back, or even asking at the foodcourt, then you need to do what works best for you. Telling your children (if you are or anyone who is) that that is stealing, really isn't reading what people have been told, or what foodcourt managers have ok'd.

Imagine if Disney had a part wear out on Splash Mountain. Would you want them to go on ebay and buy a used part?
I wouldnt. I would want them to use the best quality part they could find.

Yeah! You could be putting millions of lives at stake buying that used mug!!

Seriously, as has already been posted, the mugs are only valid for the length of stay and the new mugs even have that printed on them. You would probably get away with it, but why bother. It's an inexpensive item anyway.

I never implied anyone else wasn't smart, just that I was when it came to my old mugs. I can only go by what is done with the mugs where I stay (WL) and the mugs say length of stay only.
I never say a word to anybody doing anything wrong, it isn't my place...I just was telling how I feel about the subject at hand.
And I don't point out to my kids who is wrong and who is doing right...they know themselves.

I have to agree with Crissup on the whole subject.

When we were last at Disney, the park opened at 9 am. It was not early opening day. The CM's invited those of us waiting to come in at 8:30. We took full advantage of it..even knowing that the "official" time to open wasn't until 9:00. Each of us has to do what we feel is right. I chose to believe the CM's have permission for what they say.
If you choose to go by the newer rules, even if told you don't have to, then that's good for you. If your children "know" what each person was told, then they would know what is right and what wasn't. Luckily our grands were with us when we were invited back with our mugs, so they know it's alright..even after the signs went up (not POP, however..I haven't heard them tell people to bring them back ..or at least they didn't us).
The only point I've tried to make during this whole thread is, if it bothers you, don't re-use them. If you are comfortable with what you were told (before or after the mugs), then re-use them. As stated earlier, it only seems to bother some people on this list...not the people who are the correct decision makers.

I could care less.

Also, the documentation in MY room on my last Disney stay referred to Lenght of Stay for the mugs. In my belief written words are much more reliable then what someone told you. (The classic he said/she said).

However, FYI. Your HOME dishwasher is NOT considered a sterlizer. If you stay at OKW or another Disney hotel with a dishwasher you will notice a comment someplace in the room (I think it is on the inventory) telling you that the dishes have NOT been sterilized since they were only run through a dishwasher.

Hotels and resturants do have dishwashers that are considered sterlizer. They get MUCH MUCH hotter (trust me, I have washed a lot of dishes at a camp that had one of these things!)

All that said.... this is just plain crazy! IT IS MUG, NOT THE HOLY GRAIL!

lolololololol...I haven't been on the DIS for quite some time. I returned today. What I can't quite believe is that...

...I swallowed this whole thread!!!

And before anyone gets on my case....Yes, I sterilized the thread.

I bet the knight protecting the grail wished he had a refillable mug that was good for LIFE!!!! He looked a little thirsty in the Indiana Jones Movie.

What I dread more than reusing a mug is the comment "I could care less"... really? So you DO care, right?? How much less could you care? Oh wait, maybe you meant you COULDN'T care less!!

You couldn't care any less than you already do!!!

I have never seen so much discussion over such a silly topic, and am ROFLMAO, too!!

I am not picking on anyone, just wanted to make sure I understand!! ;)

Crissup, it was just an analogy, and I should probably have added a disclaimer to it..

I never meant to imply that the mug effects ride safety..They are totally separate things. The meaning of my original post was to show how doing the right thing is better.
We all can do cheap things...In this case, buying a cup off ebay do use at the park at a later date.
For Disney, say Splash mountain is out of service and they need something....they could go to a junkyard, find a rusted bolt/nut/whatever part they need and replace it on the ride. Sure the ride will work with that "new" part on there, but that rusted bolt will probably give out a whole lot quicker than a new one.

After reading this thread a month later, I still would do the right thing. Ill buy a new mug each time I go. I will not enforce the rules at the food courts, as that is not my responsibility. My only duty is to enjoy my time there with my family. I dont care what other people do so long as it does not affect my son, my wife or me. If that happens, Ill take care of that situation appropriately.

Will this thing ever end?

 I wondered why the kids always leaned toward the light of the window:eek:
-------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The last time we stayed at the YC 2001 the mugs in the room (available for purchase from the minibar) said good forever, or good for unlimited refills. There was no time limit mentioned.

We purchased an original WL mug in 96 which was advertised as refills good forever (or we wouldn't have purchased it). BTW the original mugs were nice; they were thermos brand and had actual insulation that kept the drinks at temperture. They were also twice the size. We still use it for our "good forever" refills.

I know people have posted pictures of these stickers and other "older signage" before. It's too bad customers will now have to start photodocumenting Disney program rules as Disney changes the rules after the game is in play.

Shame on Mickey
