Buying refillable mugs on ebay

Sorry, you are wrong. There is no rule, (unless it has changed in the last year) stating the mugs are not reusable in future stays, as long as you are at the same hotel. I've been told many times, at many different hotels.

Holy ....

I am sooo amazed at how anal people can be about this subject. This is ridiculous.

I had two mugs that I knew I would never use again so I sold them on eBay. They sold to a nice lady who wanted a souvenir. If she used them, fine. I know one thing, she didn't get a germ infested couple of mugs from a maniac!

As for Eisner and Disney losing any money... that's the LAST thing on my priority list. I decided a LONG time ago that they will not send their kids to college on MY money...

Nope, the sign has stated this for a couple of years now. Obviously you missed that. What you have been told and what is printed on the signs are obviously different. Apparently so is all ears.com

from allears.com
The mugs have the hotel logo on them and signs state that they are for use at that hotel for the duration of your visit.

I was at AS Movies in October. The sign stated, and I quote exactly:

"Good for use during your stay"

It doesn't say during your current stay, during this stay only, not valid on future stays, just good for use during your stay.

That opens it up for a lot of interpretation. If I bought a mug, I would think I could bring it back each time I stay there, since the sign says "during your stay." Also, if a cast member told me I could use it on future visits, why would I not bring it with me?

Bottom line...there is no written policy that says a mug is good only during your current stay. Even people emailing Disney cannot get them to put in writing this "supposed" policy of theirs.

I don't even drink soda or coffee, so buying a mug is pretty much useless for me.

good point, but, I think that the meaning is obvious. At least it would be for me. But, again, I really don't care what people do, as this entire issue has absolutely no impact on me. I just don't like people telling me there was no sign, when, indeed there is, and happily you saw it too.

Sorry it is VERY CLEAR. If it was valid for your future visits it would say stays (plural). You pay for what you eat and drink UNLESS THEIR IS SIGNAGE TO THE CONTRARY. When you go to McDonalds do you bring an old cup? Their is no sign telling you NOT TO USE IT. Same argument.

HOWEVER it is clear that many CM give answers contrary to written policy. It is also clear that current CM policy is free soda for all. I've never seen (or read) any CM stopping any guest for refilling ANYTHING including 7-11 big gulp mugs or even 2 liter soda bottles.

:teeth: Robin, you have said it so ELOQUENTLY! (must be all the protein that you've been eating!) Thankfully, the original poster has a good handle on this and understands that it isn't her. Oh, and this has been my weekly giggle!

What the signs and mugs say now is:

Free unlimited refills from our beverage islands during the stay in which the mug was purchased.

That said, when I bought my Pop Centruy mugs this week, she didn't tell me I could bring it back..so of course being devilish, I asked : )

She told me the "official" spiel (first time a cm ever did that at the food court!), and then told me that many bring them back, and no one cares. I do have to admit, that I usually pay no attention, since I could care less what others do, but after all the posts recently, I have to admit I was really curious this trip...howly cow!! They fill everything from the largest gulp mugs I've ever seen (these were humongeous!), right down to tiny ketchup cups, to rinsed out milk containers. The most intersting, was watching several girls filling a bunch of baby bottles..next only to the person filling an empty bread bag..how were they going to drink it??!! Oh, prob with the straws. I did get into a friendly conversation with a gal as we watched the bread bag get filled. She was agast that people would steal the soda and put it into a bread bag...as she filled her own bag with butter and jelly to spread on her "brought from home" bread, to go along with her tea bags she was grabbing LOL. Oh, she doesn't buy the mugs, since they give her paper cups to get water with, and she just uses those for the soda...but as she said "they know about that" when you request the cups. She was very entertaining.

Wow, the bread bag takes the cake.:earseek:

I guess it's getting harder for people to pretend the signage is open to interpertation.

It's gotten to the point where if Disney wants to try to enforce rules they are going to have station a CM near the drink machines, move them behind the cashier, get rid of self service beverages (unlikely) or implement a bar code system.

I wish I thought you were making up the rest of your post. It's amazing how far people are willing to go to steal soda and condiments. Boardwalk bakery fills up mugs. The right mug is a free refill, alternate mugs are refilled at a (slightly) reduced price. Sounds fair to me.

or something similar, so there would be no difference between what the CMs say and the sign. Maybe they could do what they do with certain tickets and "grandfather" the older mugs. That way, the sales of the old mugs on ebay could go the way of the meal vouchers... (hint of sarcasm). It is annoying that the CMs say one thing and Disney "official policy" says another. Enforce it. Then there will be no problems.

bread bags??

Personally, we like the mugs to use at home, but I can see why people will use anything handy for free soda. It's Disney's own fault for not enforcing the policy. Everyone knows, or quickly figures out, that no one is policing the soda islands. Why pay for something you can get free? And that everyone else is getting free?

I don't feel bad for Disney.

Here is a link to a site that pretty much knows the policy all things Disney.

I'm not arguing the point, but I have truly never noticed the signs. We bought our Wilderness Mugs three trips ago - bring them back each time and have never been questioned. I actually asked a clerk if they allow mugs from other hotels - her answer, the day staff won't be the night staff will (she was night staff).

I looked at the mug as an investment when we bought them. Staying at beach club soon and I will buy one there. OUr Wilderness logo is almost gone so will probably need to buy new ones..

What a thread....

I will admit, they could place them in a place where more people would see them. They are not invisible, but, they could be more noticable. Sort of like the signs when you leave a park informing you you need a handstamp, lots of people don't see that either.

Plasstic is porous and can trap petroleum and other poisons, so it may not be safe to use based on what has been stored in it!

I just want to say I'm shocked that a thread about buying used mugs on ebay can go on for 4 pages.

When I'm vacation I really don't care what others do along as it does not make my trip less enjoyable.

We personally buy new cups each time. one time I thought about bring the old cups( our trips wereonly 2 months apart) and my DH said " thats just not right" so we did not take back the cups we just got ones with differnt color lids the next time.

If people want to use old mugs that is fine with me. If people want to use bread bags that is fine with me also.just don't drop your bag next to me or my family.

As far a disney rasing the price because of "soda stealers" I'm not to worried about it. Disney will raise the prices soon anyway reguardless of the soda stealers. The price of everything goes up. People steal clothes at thegap I'm not going to waste my time in the mall checking bags and asking to see the sales slip.

Do I think it is right to keep using an old cup or buying on on Ebay - not really but hey thats just me.

am I going to worry about what other do- Not one bit

I hope everyone has a magical day:wave2:

There were no signs when we bought our cups 5 years ago.

I'd like to hear of ONE case of somebody being poisoned by drinking out of a used cup! (assuming they washed it before using).

Do you guys ever get out? Go to the movies? Use public transportation? Swim at Blizzard Beach?

Germs everywhere, unless you want to live in a bubble.
