Buying refillable mugs on ebay

So you are saying you wouldn't mind drinking out of a mug that might have had bodily fluids from some perv off Ebay simply because you cleaned it in your dishwasher? You honestly feel that your dishwasher does that good of a job? I'd like to know what dishwasher you own!! LOL! Sorry but you could not pay me to drink from a used mug bought off Ebay. I know that some restaurants reuse their plastic cups but that is such a small risk that someone did something to that cup compared to some unknown person you buy from off Ebay. A restaurant or other business has a lot more to lose then some nutcase getting his jollies off but doing some obscene things to a mug! Is saving a few bucks really worth drinking from something that you have NO idea where it's been or who has used it? I say stay home until you can afford the whole $12 for a new mug. :)

People, people, get a grip.

1. Mug are cheep - buy a new one.

2. How bad is the world that we think someone will get
his jollies going to WDW buying a mug, "contaminating" the
mug and then selling in on E-Bay. (not impossible but- GOSH!)

3. Ever hear of the magical properties of Clorox Bleach for
sanitizing.

Sheesh.

Not to add more fuel to the fire... but ever heard of restaurants? Do you think they throw away all of their utensils and such?

I used to work as a dishwashing crew at a major restaurant in Australia... how utensils and such are considered cleaner from a restaurant vs the one cleaned in a dishwasher, that's beyond me.

Oh well, I'll just go back to my bounce :bounce:

Hospitals also use reusable plastic drinkware and plates. I like to think that they are germ conscious.

Most restaurants use dishwasher detergent that is much stronger than what we use.

The water temperature is what kills germs on things, not necesarily the detergent used. Bleach also kills germs. Plastic can be bleached. The argument that someone is going to get germs from buying a mug off ebay is just ludacris. If the person that bought the mug wasn't going to wash it, then yes they may get germs, but I can be 99% sure that anyone that purchases something off ebay to put consumables in, will wash it.

Most of those mugs on ebay are probably being sold by the very same people that frequent this board. I like to think that fellow DISer's aren't going to be getting their "jollies" in a mug. PUKE.

I think buying a mug off of ebay is taking the budgeting thing to far.

I'm all for finding ways to save money on vacation, but some of the ideas are a little over the top. Using someone else's old mug, taking a microwave or GF grill in order to cook in the room.

At what point do you say enough?

All Right Flame Away, but here is what happened to dh and I.

We are from Florida and go to Disney every few months. When we went in September, dh and I were standing by the drink center discussing whether it would be worth it for us to buy the mugs for ourselves. A cast member who was cleaning up the drink center overheard us and said, "you'll get so much use out of it plus u can bring it back with you next time and use it again."

Ok, so maybe this wasn't the most brilliant employee and she was wrong for telling us that, but the next time we went, I brought the mugs and didn't realize that one was in my hand as we were checking in. The cast member who was checking us in said, "Get all the use you can out of those cups now, rumor has it they are going to start putting bar codes on the cups so that when scanned will give your check in and check out dates."

2 Cast members ok'd us reusing our cups for now. So we did.

I don't know about buying cups off EbaY...like someone else said, by the time you pay for shipping you've paid pretty much the same as you would have for a new cup.

I'm not as worried about the sanitation issue...there are some pretty strong sanitizers out there, not to mention pure bleach. But buying from someone else just seems wrong to me.

But to each their own....

I am so proud, I started an official "Hot Thread"
But on the flip side everyone thinks I am a bad person.
Last time I was at ASMOVIES I was practically the only person at the drink fountain with the current mug, which led me to ponder, "Hey, is it Kosher to bring these back next time?" I am sure others have noticed this phenomenom.

:wave2:

On the topic of refillable mugs, is there somewhere at the Grand to get them for your stay. This year will be our first year there and I didn't know if they had this option and if they had a food court type area??

Thanks gang......Have A Disney Day!!!!!princess:

I have been going to Disney for years and have never heard that the mugs you've used from previous stays are not reusable for future stays. If you are staying at the same hotel, there is nothing wrong with that. Everyone does it. It seems a little ridiculous to say we are "ripping" Disney off, after spending thousands of dollars there for a week's vacation, and everything there is overpriced as it is. I wouldn't go as far as buying a mug on EBay, but you can bring your old mugs back as many times as you want!

I don't believe reusing a mug from a previous trip is ripping Disney off anymore than Disney selling a container of orange juice for $2.95 that costs $1.09 at the grocery store is ripping me off!! Not to mention the cost of a child's container of milk or a single serving box of cereal. Have you checked out the rip-off prices of items in the food courts lately? We always reuse our mugs and will continue to do so. We too were told when we purchased them that they were good for every return trip at the same resort.

Allowed or not aside, ripping them of in terms of dollar value is virtually impossible.

The largest sized soda at McDonalds don't cost the corporation more than 15 cents (that includes the cardboard cup, lid, straw, operational cost such as electricity, maintenance and such). A mug doesn't cost more than US$1.

If somebody drinks 100 mugs worth of drinks (which size equivalent to medium sized drink at McD, which only cost about 12 cents). Only then they will make zero money.

Also don't forget that they require The Coca-cola Company to pay a fee in order to have their brand in all of their parks.

Disney (and McDonalds...) need to make money. It can be argued that it is a rip off to pay 3.00 for juice that costs 1.00 at the grocery store but I disagree. Disney provides lots of atmosphere, etc. at its resorts, this costs money. If you disagree then you are welcome to spend your next vacation at the grocery store.

I'll probably be flamed....but I bought an All Stars refillable mug at Goodwill for $.50. I washed it (dishwasher) and bleached it(sanitized). I use it for hot drinks at work. I have no plans to stay at the All-Stars, and wouldn't drag it to Florida even if I did. I just like the mug....

I don't think you are a bad person at all. You asked, you received and answer and have not been miserable (as some posters can be) about the answers at all. You are doing fine.

Well, they do have signs stating that they are good for the length of stay, perhaps you missed them.
Here is a link to a site that pretty much knows the policy all things Disney.

http://allearsnet.com/din/mugs.htm

what you spend, how often you spend it, what your thoughts are about things being overpriced is not important in regards to the rules governing things that you have made the choices to buy or attend.
I am not thinking you are ripping anyone off, I think you are breaking rules. Do I care? Nope, not one whit.

what company make a profit on what and how much is not relevant. What is relevant is the rules regarding the mugs.
