Is there a reason I shouldn't buy resale points? I was looking at 175 points @ Saratoga Springs for $89/pt. from Disney, but I can get 200 points @ Boardwalk for $69/pt. on resale. Seems like a no brainer. Is it?

Current Maitenance fees at Boardwalk are $0.45/pt more than SSR. You get 12 additional years of usage at SSR. You will have additional closing fees through resale that you won't have through Disney. For my money SSR is the better value.

Buy where you want to stay, the price difference is not enough to drive all of your decisions. But to answer your question, there is no reason to avoid resale. Just realize there are other costs and potential pitfals (and advantages) from resale besides pp costs. Also be aware of the difference in expiration of the resorts though at the current level I don't think that has much importance.

One of the selling points for us was the fact that the points are interchangeable from resort to resort, so the location of the property you own shouldn't matter so much should it? It's the number of points that are important. We also were impressed by the "World Passport" resorts in different locations for what is quoted @ 160 pts./week. Has anyone taken advantage of this and is it worthwhile?

If you wish to try for ressies during a holiday period or "low DVC points" period at a DVC resort, then yes, your 11-month home advantage does make a difference. If you know you will prefer to stay at a certain resort, it is best to purchase there. Some people will tell you it does not matter because you can request any resort, making a request and getting it are two different things.

I bought SSR at Christmas and it worked out at $84 a point as DVC give you a credit that worked out at $5 a point and there was no transfer fee, Transfer costs can be about $500 on resales. Also on resales the points may have been borrowed from the next year so not available to use for upto 18 Months. Having said that I have also just bought resale at $70 a point at VWL .
Some banked points and all the points available at June 2004.
Do your reserarch and buy where you want to stay is the important message. I want to stay at peak demand times at more than one resort so I buy smaller numbers of points at the resorts I like.
