Bear with me, this is complicated.

We may buy now, we may buy later. Dh is skeptical, and I'd love to get him on a tour (so someone else can snow him with details and the burden isn't all on me! LOL) Of course, our next scheduled trip is February and the incentive may be gone then, who knows. So we'll see. My birthday is next week... :)

However, there is another incentive to buy soon.... to get the DVC discount on APs for the upcoming February trip, since we may go later in 2006. And to take penny pinching to a new low, if I can get the DVC AP before early December inside the 60 day window from my trip and switch to a BRP.

Now, we're not going to commit to a $20,000 purchase until we're ready just to save a few bucks on a resort room, but hypothetically... :rolleyes1 how long to get the membership number after putting down the deposit? Do you get it if you only do the $500 "get the ball rolling" deposit and pay the rest within a couple weeks? Do you have to wait until financing is approved? I would think it would be a problem hypothetically if.. buyer puts down deposit, waits for financing, in the meantime has a temporary membership number and uses it to buy an AP voucher at the DVC discount , and then finds out whoops, didn't get financing, or they need 30% down, or whatever, and the deal falls through. And then the buyer has an illegally discounted AP.

Does this make sense? Just looking at all the angles.

Alternately... forgetting using the AP for the BRP, if I stick with my MYW tickets for February trip and then we end up buying in could I then upgrade to AP with DVC discount?

If you buy directly from Disney, you'll get a member number shortly after Disney receives your deposit.

Flaw in your plan: - You need to show your member card to exchange the voucher for the actual pass. It generally takes several weeks to get the member card. You can stop by SSR to get a temp card (if your permanent one hasn't arrived yet), but I doubt Disney would have you in the system anymore if the deal "falls through" and so you wouldn't be able to get the DVC-discounted AP / PAP even though you have the DVC voucher. You could use the DVC voucher to buy other types of tickets, though.

Assuming your MYW ticket is unused, yes, you could turn it in and get credit towards the purchase of a DVC- discounted AP / PAP.

But if the deal is proceeding and I haven't gotten the permanent card there is no problem with getting a card from SSR?

I'm assuming there will be no problem with financing... I was just thinking of possible reasons they wouldn't let a "pending member" use the AP discount... sounds like there is a safeguard against system abuse.

This helps alot, thanks.

I don't think it takes that long to get financing approved - yoi might ask that as a separate question and some of the others here may know.

AFAIK, once you are a member, they can print a temp card for you at SSR.

Best wishes -
