Its all so unreal. After a record lost cause, night before leaving for Disney sleep (2 ¼ hours) it was time to get up. On Wednesday, October 27th, the Boston Red Sox had done something they hadnt managed to do in 86 years
win the World Series and there was no way any member of Red Sox Nation could settle down. I fell into bed at 2:15 a.m. and was up at 4:30 a.m. to start the day.
My DH and I arrived at Logan airport around 7 and checked in. After one minor mishap, Delta forgot to give me my boarding pass, all was well and we went to have breakfast. I wanted a paper to have the Red Sox victory edition for my collection. Ive been collecting important and unusual newspapers for years. Besides getting the Herald, I also found a store that had just gotten in World Series Champ t-shirts so I got one of those too.
The plane left right on time and we had an uneventful flight. This was my first time on Song and it was great. I loved the GPS monitor that lets you know where the plane is.
We landed in Orlando around 11:30, got our Mears tickets and picked up the luggage. After a short wait, we were on our way to the All Star Music.
The damage we saw on the way to the hotel both amazed and saddened me. Many trees were either uprooted or snapped in half. There were still signs down too. But the worst was the homes. We saw hundreds of homes that had lost parts of their roofs. In some developments it seemed like 90% of the houses had damage while in others there were very few. The only really bad hurricane Ive seen was Carol. When that hit I was only 5 years old so seeing all of this was a real eye opener.
As soon as we got to the ASM, I asked if there was a parade at the MK for any of the Red Sox. The CM who was checking us in looked at me like I was speaking a foreign language. She didnt know who I was talking about. Definitely not a member of Red Sox Nation! She made a call and found out that, yes there was a parade and Curt Shilling would be there. It was 1:15 and by the time I got through checking in and dumping the luggage and the husband in the room and then bussing over to the MK, it was 1:45. I was flabbergasted! Literally thousands of Red Sox fans lined Main Street USA. There were folks in Red Sox caps and shirts, there were people with signs and balloons. There was even a group of 6 or 7 people all dressed up like Johnny Damon!! Padro and Manny were suppose to be there too but missed their flight? Oh well, theyll be there tomorrow, 10/29, but Ill be house hunting and wont get to see them.
Spontaneous chants of Here we go Red Sox and Were #1! kept coming from the crowd and when Curt came down the street with Mickey, the place went wild. Curt looked slightly bewildered. It was almost like, if theres this many Red Sox fans at WDW, whats going to happen in Boston??
Once the parade ended, I left for EPCOT. On the monorail I spent time with more fans discussing the team. Then I was there. For the first time in 17 months, I was back at my beloved EPCOT.
First I sent some E-postcards and then it was off to the Electric Umbrella for a snack and to watch my fountain. I have a fixation with that fountain and especially one of the songs it plays, Standing In Motion. Any Disney fanatic knows this place is magic but it still never fails to amaze me when the unexpected happens. I sat down at the patio outside the restaurant to have my lunch. The fountain got ready to do a song and it was Standing In Motion. It plays dozens of songs and it played the one song Ive waited 17 months to hear!
Next I wandered over to ride TT but it wasnt running so I went over to look at Mission Space. I went into the interactive area only. I may ride this someday but that wasnt going to be today. Then I went on SE.
Finally TT was open so I took a ride. By now it was nearly 5 p.m. and the short nights sleep was really hitting me. Got back to the hotel and called about a house were going to look at tomorrow that we saw on a site called BuyOwner. http://www.buyowner.com
DH and I went to get supper at the ASM food court. The food was excellent. When we returned to our room, I called housekeeping for some extra pillows. A short time later 2 nice young men showed up and presented me with the pillows and my first ever face cloth character. Its Stitch and so cute. It will be my first Disney decoration in our new home.
Then we talked and watched TV for a while and it was lights out at 10 p.m.
High Points Seeing all the Red Sox fans at the Magic Kingdom.
Getting my first face cloth character.
Low Points The way my feet and legs felt after all that walking.
The damage still left over from the hurricanes.
Weird Point The Johnny Damon family.
Best Point Hearing Standing In Motion at the EPCOT fountain!
In case you missed it, here's some pictures from the Red Sox parade at the MK.
