buy multiple contracts?

DH and I are thinking about buying into the DVC (at AKV), so I've been doing A LOT of reading of these boards (and learned quite a bit!). I've seen a lot of recommendations to buy multiple smaller contracts instead of one larger one because smaller contracts are easier to sell if necessary.

We're thinking about buying around 200 points to start. Given what I've read, I'm wondering if maybe we should buy one 160 and then one 50 (as an add-on?). We want all the points at AKV. Does it make sense to do this? Are there any disadvantages to buying the points as multiple contracts?

If Disney isn't going to charge you an additional closing cost on a second contract I would definately break your 200 point contract into two (160 + 40). That gives you the flexibility to sell the 40 point contract if you chose to do so in the future.

We bought two contracts at BCV directly from Disney on the same day during construction. One at 250 points and the second at 100 points. Our thought is that if DVC wasn’t for us we could sell one or the other or both. Since then we have added two additional contracts, all from Disney and all having the same use year. I know we would have a harder time selling the total contract as a whole but then now we will have to pay the various fees, filings etc for each contract when that time for selling or passing them on to the kids comes. Unfortunately we can not split the points equally between the kids if they all wanted them because of the sizes of the contracts. We hadn’t thought about passing them on at the time we bought or perhaps 100 point contracts may have been a better choice when we purchased..

I believe you only get the incentives on the first contact. I don't think 200 points is a large contract so to resell it would not be a problem.
