I need some advice for my 1st trip to the World. We leave in 10 days! I'm so not used to wearing sneakers. I wear sandals all summer long. Does anyone have suggestions on what to wear that's comfortable but not real hot. Maybe I should be looking for different socks instead? Thanks!

Have you ever heard of Crocs? Check out the website: crocs.com

Depending on where you are, if you have hiking/camping type stores, they usually have them. I've also found them at Dilliards, the Shoe Department, and have heard that PayLess Shoes has an off-brand kind...I'm all about off-brand and saving money, but this is one time I bought the real thing. They're about $30 a pair and U-G-L-Y, but the most comfortable shoes I've ever owned. I will DEFINITELY be taking my when DH and I go 9/16-24 :cool1:

I am also not a big sneaker fan....my feet feel "trapped" all day (my DH thinks I am crazy!).

This past trip, I bought a pair of slip-on sneakers that were extremely light. I wore small, thin, ankle socks with them which were very comfortable. I was able to slip my feet in and out of them, and they were light and didn't feel as big and clunky as sneakers.

Good luck! :sunny:

Nothing wrong with wearing sandals to the parks if they are comfortable and well broken in and what you wear all the time.

Last year I found Earth Shoe Sandals from Walmart, not real attractive ones but very functional. They are the ones with velcro on them that you can adjust in three differnt places for a perfect foot fit, have a well padded sole and are made of leather. I live in these sandals all summer long and both DH an I plan one wearing them a lot at MK. We will also bring a pair of sneakers each as a change off, but I will mostly wear my Earth Shoe Sandals, I actually am bringing two differnt pairs as switching off of any shoes each day or even during the day is good... :sunny:

If you have a thick sole on the sandal it would work too. We just got back and I wore sandals the whole time we were there. So did my kids. I hate wearing shoes at all but sneakers are the worst. Thank God I'm a Southern Florida girl and so are my DDs! :cool1:

I have always worn sandals at WDW- nothing flashy, nothing ugly (sorry crocs wearers, I just don't get it). Just good 'ol comfy flat sandals (typically the slide kind without straps on my heels)

If you DO decide to wear sneakers, I HIGHLY recommend the tip I read here which is to buy spray deodorant and spray you feet each morning. I don't know for sure why it works, but we had no sore spots or blisters, our feet stayed nice and cool, and, since I chose Dove Deoderant (with silk extract, no less), my feet were really soft. The last day I decided to skip it, and my feet were sore and tired. Like I said, I don't know what makes it work exactly, but I am sold. :cool1:

Even though I have lots of great sneakers I found that I am more comfortable in nice flip/flop sandals. Not cheap thin soled ones but good ones. I only got a blister when I wore sneaks, never sandals. Of course I go in July so anything to make it cooler helps.

I just made a post on some amazingly comfortable flip flops that I now live in called Fanning by Reef. They're so comfie, I haven't worn shoes or other sandals all summer. Bought a couple of more pairs after I fell in love.

All leather sneakers seem to get real hot. I bought running shoes that are made of leather and fabric to get better ventilation. Also, I bought the thin cool-max socks that wick away sweat.
If you wear sandals, bring the sandals!

The last trip we did (2yr ago) I wore slip on clogs from White Mountain. They have all pvc/rubber soles which are thick and provide lots of support. I recently invested in a pair of Danskos and will be wearing those next go-around in January.

Danskos (Sanita is another good brand- approved by the American Podiatric Association; I believe made in the same factory as Dansko) are made for people who are on their feet all day- nurses, chefs, etc. I can't describe how comfy they are, and because they're made to "slip" a little inthe back they do get decent circulation.

Birkenstocks, Tevas or Chacos are good for sandals, but I lurve my clogs year round.

Love, love, love my Teva Mush flip flops and Teva Pretty Rugged Leather Sandals. I carried them along with a pair of Croc Beach clogs and Croc Nile sandals to WDW this past May. My Tevas were 'By FAR' the most comfortable. In fact I got my first ever blister wearing my Croc Niles. In two weeks I'm going back and both pair of Tevas are coming with me. My D-I-L bought her and my son both a pair of Croc beach clogs that they are taking and because we wear the same size and because my Crocs match alot of her clothes she is also bringing all three pair of my Crocs. Don't get me wrong I love my Crocs to wear around here and wear them almost every day to walk my dog, but they just weren't as comfortable as my Tevas at WDW. When I was there in January I wore Reebok or Teva sneakers and my feet were uncomortable the whole trip. Never again!

I was planning to take some cheap flipflops to change into for any wet rides we go on. Is this a good idea? We are planning on wearing tennis shoes the rest of the time.

That is what worked for us.I hate wearing wet tennis shoes.

On my last visit to Disney in 2002 I ended up with the worst blisters...which I attributed to my cotton socks. This time I brought with me several pairs of the cool-max socks...they are made with special material that stays dry and wicks away moisture. After a full day hiking around...my feet were dry and blister free.

I like sandals and skimpy Keds...but all that walking on thin soled shoes is tough on my feet. Good luck!

I wear sandals to the parks. I used to be a sneaker wearer but now my feet get too hot. I think its because I always wear sandals now during the spring and summer.

Wear sandals if you are used them and they are well broken in. I never got a blister or anything, just tired feet. But that happens with sneakers too!

Disneymom5, We sprayed our feet with a spray deoterant with an antiperspirant. The antiperspirant is the key. It keeps your feet dry. We also used coolmax socks.
My DH has terrible problems with his feet when we travel to DW. We walk from early morning to late into the night, for several days is a row. He is always plagued with blisters by day 4 or 5. The last couple of trips he has sprayed and not one problem.
This past trip I wore Teva sandals and sprayed my feet each morning also, and it makes a big difference at the end of the day.

Aug 13 DS & I flew from CT to FL wearing sneakers. (packed extra socks, etc) Once we got to WDW I couldnt wait for my luggage to arrive. I immediately changed into my sandals and wore them for 14days straight! Got no blisters. There was no way my feet would have survived in sneakers.

Last year when we went to WDW for the first time I insisted my family wear tennis shoes w/socks. I was really hard core about it. My oldest daughter (now 14) hated wearing the shoes and BEGGED me to let her wear her flip flops. I finally gave in on day 2 and said "Don't come crying to me when you get blisters on your feet." She never did!! She wore them the entire 5 days left of our trip and did great! She just smiled at me and said "told ya so!" :cool1:
I guess I'm really weird b/c I don't remember my feet getting hot while there. Maybe I just accepted the fact that I had to wear the tennis shoes. I have a very difficult size to find and usually have to order my shoes through a mail order catalog. I wear an 11 AAA or a 12 AAAA in dress shoes, 11 or 12 AAA in tennis shoes altho I can get by w/AA if I tighten them up alot. :earseek: It's all my Daddy;s fault!! :rotfl2:
