"But Mom, I want to come back to WDW!"

We did the Hoop-Dee-Do back in 1987 and had the same issues, it was our first trip to the World and we had no idea what we were doing. We really enjoyed the show and food. Remembering that and all of Buzz’s talk about KFC, I want some Fried Chicken.

Wow - 1987???? It's been around that long? That's the year after I graduated from high school. Are you that old? Am I that old? Thanks for that reminder Goofster.

I hope I'll be on the DIS boards 20 years from now, telling some Disney Newbie about our previous trips

I wonder if Buzz ever bought the chicken or if he just drooled for it from his window.

I find it very hard to follow this rule myself. I take a zip-lock bag full of Cheerios with me when we go to Disneyland to feed the ducks on the Rivers of America.

Now this is what I like to hear instead of He-Who-Must-Not-Be-Named EATING the ducks!

The Disney squirrels- if they leave me alone I'm fine. Last fall, I was sitting on the water at DTD waiting for Buzz to bring me my margarita. The kids were eating McDonald's food and this squirrel came sneaking up. The darn little thing-he kept watching our table and I just knew he was going to jump on it so I gave him my evilest eye, stared him down and (didn't realize I'd said it out loud,) but I said, "Don't even think about it Buddy!!" The guy at the next table cracked up laughing b/c I was talking to squirrels, but evidently it worked b/c the squirrel jumped on HIS table instead, scared the guy so bad he jumped up and nearly knocked his drink over. Score one for Lin, Zero for the squirrel and fella next to me.

Linnie....You know you're getting old when...you begin to repeat yourself.

Gray hair-I've got tons of it. I usually wear my hair up in a knot on my head and at dinner this last trip, Buzz pointed out how the hair in my knot is blond, but the stuff closest to my scalp is white. Uh, yeah, that's b/c the blond stuff is dyed and I need to dye the roots! ....Nice of him to point it out though...

Read my response to Goofster on this. It's the wrinkles that are starting to bother me but I heard somewhere that they are just a product of time and true love. A country song?

Linnie said:
I love that, "Guess what's in my hand!" Too funny! As you can guess, Buzz doesn't follow the rules either. That's probably the reason for all my white hair-I get so worked up and scared when we're breaking rules I nearly have a heart attack!

I know how you feel and I have three of them to deal with.

I have seen you posting all over the DisBoards, and what do my eyes see? A TR by "Blue" (as everyone calls you).

I somehow got nicknamed Blue a long time ago and I've come to like it :)

I laughed when I read this. It just sounded funny hearing someone say they've seen me all over the DisBoards. Here I thought I kept a pretty low profile most of the time.

I cannot wait to read the rest of the report. I started a pre -trippie for my July trip with my cousins (taking a 14 and 18 year old for the first time) -- although definitely not as creative as you -- i am learning some valuable writing skills here --

Oh JoJo is quite the character that's for sure.

Ha! Son of a gun, I knew when I was writing it, it sounded familiar. I was thinking, "I remember writing this somewhere before" -but I figured it was my mind playing tricks on me. Kind of good to know it wasn't, I guess.

I was just thinking today too that my mom is really scatterbrained these days-doesn't remember talking to me or the things we've said to each other and it's a little annoying. Huh. Guess I take after her...

Great job again, Blue! I absolutely LOVED JoJo's reasoning for why her grandpa's hair is all grey!! :rotfl: Too funny! I can't wait to hear about the Hoop Dee Doo, I've never done it but it always sounded like fun. Ft. Wilderness looks like a neat place to visit, maybe I will have to add that to my list of things to see in Disney. No matter how many times you go you can never see it all! Can't wait for more, Blue! :cool1:

It was a lot of fun and DH's favourite. I think it was the free beer that influenced his decision. :rotfl:

I will posting about it within the hour. Just have to upload my pics first.

Day 5 - Part 4

I wasn’t very impressed with the store at FW. Not sure what I was thinking but assumed there would be something a little different since this was a campground and all. No such luck. They just had the regular Disney products and of course camping goods. Prince Grumpy messaged me on my radio and suggested we go to the bar/restaurant area and have a drink before the dinner show.

As soon as we entered the bar, I noticed a stuffed bear and asked JoJo and Goofy to go stand beside it so I could take their picture. JoJo just looked at me like I were nuts, rolled her eyes and grabbed a seat at the nearest table. Goofy on the other hand, walked cautiously over, checked the bear out from head to toe and stopped dead in her tracks. From the look on her face, I could tell she was afraid to go any further. I told her that it wasn’t real and had to ask her to move closer so I could get her in the picture. By this time, she had aroused the curiosity of a few men sitting at the bar who began to laugh out loud. Suddenly I felt embarrassed for her, turned around to face them, ready to give them the evil eye
MSN-Emoticon-114.gif

but found myself intimidated pretty quickly when I saw there were four of them. I snapped the picture and motioned for her to follow me to the table where JoJo was waiting and watching us.

75b9112c.jpg

Prince Grumpy finally came back with a beer and three soft drinks. He was rambling on about something as I took some pictures of the place. “Did you hear me?” he asked. He was intrigued by the fact that the beer bottle was plastic. I think he talked about that for a good 10 minutes and I’m pretty sure anyone who was watching us or heard us talking, including the four men at the bar, wondered where the heck we were from.

cc302ac1.jpg

After we finished our drinks, we left and went to stand in line at the door. I’m not sure why there was a line-up because the tables were already assigned. Anyhow, once we reached the front we were ushered to our table, which was off to the right side of the stage about two rows back. I was pleased with our location since I had only made our reservations four months earlier. From what I had read, it was recommended to reserve at least 6 months to a year in advance.

Before the meal was served, we had our picture taken and later bought the package that included 2 (5x7), 4 (wallet), magnet and keychain for $26.00.

The table was set with steel plates, mason jars for drinking glasses, a pot of salad and cornbread. This was the first time we’ve ever had cornbread and to be honest, we weren’t that fussy on it. It was like eating cake for dinner and I would have preferred a regular loaf of bread. It didn’t really matter though because there was so much food. HDD is an all-you-can-eat restaurant, including free beer and wine. Between the four of us, we ate two pots of salad, two pots of ribs, one pot of chicken, corn on the cob and baked beans. Prince Grumpy downed two pitchers of beer on his own which had little or no effect on him, unlike our good Canadian brew (so he says). Beer is not my beverage of choice, so I ordered wine for myself.

MSN-Emoticon-beer-086.gif

The dinner show was a well-choreographed western musical with comedy bits. The cheesy jokes were so silly that people couldn’t help but laugh at them. It included a lot of audience participation with hand clapping and foot stomping. The atmosphere was reminiscent of an old barn with a large dining hall, which included a balcony level. The staff was dressed in period costume and stayed in character throughout the evening. Everyone in the restaurant appeared to be having a great time but with free beer, the best audience is one that is intelligent and a little tipsy. If you liked the show Hee Haw, you would definitely enjoy Hoop-Dee-Doo. One thing I would recommend is that you dress warm. It was freezing cold in that place! This will certainly be one of our choices next time around.

When we left at 9:10, it was pouring outside. I’m talking about the drenching kind of rain and strong winds that must have been part of Ernesto. Can you believe that not one of us had brought our ponchos that I purchased months ago and carried around every day since we arrived? Prince Grumpy did think to pack an umbrella but by the time we reached the dock, the wind had ripped it to shreds. He threw it in the garbage and we stood in the rain for about twenty minutes waiting for the boat to pick us up and take us to MK. By the time the boat arrived, we looked like a bunch of sorry drowned rats and I swear I could read the minds of the people.
MSN-Emoticon-209.gif

They were probably thinking, “There’s a family of unDISers who don’t have a clue what they’re doing”. We were at the end of the line and thought we would have to wait for the next boat, however, we got the last seat, and that put us at the front which meant we would be the first ones off and could race for the next bus back to ASMo. The boat ride would have been more enjoyable if the four of us were not so cold and cranky. I had to tell my three children not to talk to each other and keep their hands to themselves a couple of times, to discourage further fighting.
MSN-Emoticon-angry-158.gif

Once the boat docked, we ran to the bus stop that provided shelter from the still pouring rain. We didn’t have much of a wait for the next bus but the twenty-minute ride back, in our irritated state of mind, made it feel like an eternity. We bought ourselves some tea, coffee and hot chocolate, headed to our room, dried off and regrouped. That’s one of the things I love about my bunch, they don’t stay mad long. The next morning we were all able to laugh about it and move on.

First time encountering corn bread!! :lmao: :lmao: :lmao:

It's all over in the states. Personally I don't like it that much-it's too dry for me. That cracked me up though-I forget there's differences between countries and cultures.

Is it all you can drink wine at that Hoop De Doo? If it is, we are soooo doing that this fall!!!

All our dinners were "firsts" for us and we enjoyed every one of them except for Hollywood & Vine. I chose H&V as part of the Fantasmic Package but realized we still could have had good seats without it. Maybe it depends on what time of year you go. Anyhow, there are so many other choices that I believe would have been more fun. That being said, the food wasn't bad and I can live with one disappointing meal :upsidedow

Our boat was covered so we were lucky there. I don't even want to imagine how things would have turned out if that had been the case :rotfl2:

Shame me all you want for leaving the ponchos behind - I deserve it :sad2:
It won't happen next time, that's for sure.

I'm curious, do you still have snow in N.B.? I saw Nfld. on the news the other day and couldn't believe how much snow they still have for this time of year. Not a place I'd want to live. :sad2:
