Bush Supporters

I love Canada - we travel there every year or two and own a timeshare there. We also love Canadians. They are warm wonderful generous people. So please don't take it wrong when I say I dont give a &*#$^*#$ what you think of our president or our election. That's why you don't get to vote for our president. I also think most Canadians would disagree with your contention that Bush is the most dangerous man in the world right now. I can think of quite a few who are more dangerous, that comment is just plain silly. You vote for your leaders, we'll vote for ours thank you very much.

First off Bush has NEVER talked about bringing back the draft. He even stated very loudly during debate #2 that he would never bring back the draft...the all volunteer military works fine...we don't need it. So you really have no cause for alarm there. I also have had NONE of my freedoms taken away. There are extra security measures, but they are the same on the Canadian side of the border. I travel over the border frequently...it's the same both ways. When you come to live here you will be treated just like every other American. You are welcome to speak your mind but don't get in an uproar if your opinions irritate people and they let you know it.

And for the record what other countries has the President said he wanted to attack or nuke?

And if you really think our President and our government are so wrong, why do you want to live here? The Patriot Act is a good thing..it is not evil. I am not being nasty I really want to know if you hate something so much why you would even want to be there.

It scares the daylights out of me that my fiance might be forced into military service to find a war in a country that he and I don't agree with. I'm terrified that he may end up dying for this crazy man.

I wouldn't worry about your fiance being drafted. He can stay right here in the good old U.S. where he'll be safe and sound. Our brave all-volunteer military will take care of things in the Middle East.

Of course, if he is drafted he can always move to Canada where he'll be welcomed with open arms and regarded as a hero.

Sorry, if they don't play hockey, they can't be a hero here.

"I've been hearing Bush talk about bringing back the draft."
As the other post'r said, Bush has NEVER talked about
bringing back the draft! For once & for all, the Democrats
started rumors months ago, and when the nation found out
that a DEMOCRAT had introduced a bill last week to reinstate
the draft (which failed miserably) it pretty much shut the
people up who were falsely accusing the President. What you
may have heard, and continue to hear, is Kerry's favorite
new catch-phrase: "Back Door Draft." Somebody invented it
so that the word DRAFT would stick with people like yourself.
The phrase is actually referring to some military (don't know who, or how many) who are angry over being kept on their
rotations longer than anticipated. I feel badly for every one
of our soldiers serving for more/longer rotations than promised.
However unfortunate it is, tho, those who command them
believe it's necessary. I pray they come home safe, and as
soon as possible - but NOT by Kerry's way!

"Starting what provacative threads? I've hardly started any threads in this place, though I've joined quite a few."
My apologies - I meant a combination of both.

"Just because I'm Canadian (atm) doesn't mean I shouldn't say anything about the man."
True, but if I remember correctly didn't you start off this
thread telling us that we need to vote him out of office,
or words to that effect? You weren't just telling us your
'opinion from Canada' - you were telling us as
American citizens how YOU thought WE should vote.
Perhaps I misunderstood?

"I find it amazing that, instead of concentrating on whats really going on, you decide to just attack me for being Canadian."
No, what you perceive as an attack on your Canadian
citizenship is really a reaction to your trying to influence
an American citizen's privileged right to vote as he/she
chooses. Please use your own discretion in your next
national elections, and leave us to our choices down here.

"I DID say that Bush scares me. Pointing out that I'm afraid is a little redundant when I already said it don't you think?"
If you're referring to my post, I was simply pointing out
how much power you have given to our President! It truly
amazed me how you stretched things, and even tho you
said you were fearful the words & descriptions you've used
amplified it magnificently.

"they lost more than they gained. Little to no medical care, starving every day because of lack of food..."
Do you have any proof of that?
I believe time & history will be the only way of telling
the full story.

"You hate these countries now"
We do? I don't.

"Creating a gvt is one thing that takes alot of time and effort but in the meantime, the people of the country are suffering."
You have inadvertantly produced your own best argument FOR
the invasion of Iraq! Bringing something good to people who have known only horror for decades DOES and WILL take time.

"You bet some people are grateful and say thank you. Why wouldn't they? They were watching your soldiers shoot people."
You have stooped very low with this comment, and are too close to insinuating our troops are terrorists.

"Every day, I hear about another country that he has insulted or is planning to attack and I wonder when Canada will be next and when will the first nuclear weapon button be pushed... We stand on the brink of world war because of his actions as nations live in fear of what this man will do next."

The fact that totalia thinks that Bush is going to re-instate the draft speaks VOLUMES to her limited knowledge of the situation. Please educate yourself on the true issues, totalia. At best, you make yourself sound quite ignorant (read: misinformed) and at worst, you sound like someone wearing a tinfoil hat. (here's a hint: CNN and other biased news sources are not the place to do it).

I was going to give you this long post but you know what? I'm not going to bother.

I've now spent years in and out of the states. A great deal of my life revolves on what happens there. Long ago I developed a love of it. I am entitled to fear a person and to even hate him if I like. It is not a hit against the country that I hold so close. No more than you hating your neighbor for shooting cans in their backyard would be.

But, out of all of the things Americans have said to me, all of the insults that have been thrown my way over the years, none has ever been so blind and insulting as the people who have read this thread.

If you are all representative of the current way of majority thinking within your country, then you don't have much time left as a super power.

It makes me sad to think that such a wonderful country is going to self destruct because people can't seem to think things through anymore.

It seems its only a matter of time. Pity that. For all your vaunted freedoms, for all your claims of equality for all, you don't actually mean any of it.

Given the results of our last THREE federal elections, I totally agree - CANADA is about to self-destruct. Canadians ignore or believe we are immune from Islamo-facism. Thank God the Americans are not and thank Him also that, despite our indifference and disrepect, they remain our "friends".

You know, I almost said the same thing, but decided to answer you in the long post since I thought you were looking for a dialogue at that time.

Why not respond to these points the people are making and excuse the tone you might find offensive. Some found your tone to be offensive, too, remember. I and others made good points in response to your fears and concerns. You've ignored them ALL and immediately go back to your screed.

Totalia, I apologize for responding with the presumption that your fiance was already in the military. I misread your initial post. That being said, your fears of an upcoming draft I would say are unfounded unless Kerry gets into office. He has unequivocably stated that he will add 40,000 men to the military and increase special forces. Where will he get these men if he does not draft? Pres. Bush has stated he will NOT initiate a draft.

I believe that America is still strong even in its diversity. It would be a totalitarian government if we all agreed on everything. I believe that you can have diversity and still be strong if you practice respect. The name calling, bashing, demoralizing, hate-spewing, think my way or else mentality is what is going to weaken our country.

Two years ago, a French girl was sponsored by our local Rotary Club to go to college in our town. They paid her tuition and living expenses. She came to this country and said horrible, hurtful things about Americans and our leader. It totally sickened me. Here she was getting a free ride on money that could and should have been spent on a citizen's education, and she was biting that hand that educated her. This is what I think is so wrong. People want our way of life and want to enjoy our benefits without earning it or respecting it.

American citizens have the right to choose, no one else. I bet that I couldn't go to other countries and disrespect its culture and policies without reproach either.

So Totalia, even if you disagree, please do so with respect. That is key.

No, but we can invade a sovereign nation and impose our form of government.

I love my country, but strongly dislike the current regime.

That doesn't mean I should leave. It means I should work to change it.

Our country loves to tout freedom of speech and "our style" freedom for everyone in the world....but I guess that doesn't extend to a sister from the north. Totalia...welcome to the US (when you move here) and my husband may want to buy your home....he would like to relocate but my preference is to stay and work for what I think is right and good.

What that girl did was horrible and stupid. I'm not her. I'm not asking for handouts. I'm trying to make it in this life just like everyone else.

I haven't disrespected your culture. In fact, I love your culture and thats one of the reasons I love the States so much. Americans are so passionate and strong. These are things I very much admire.

I have not disrespected you or your country. Though considering all of the canadian jokes and insults I've suffered at the hands of Americans, the same sure can't be said the other way around.

Considering the things you have read here, do you feel that I have been respected in these threads? I said something against ONE person, not a whole country but the current leadership. And I have everyone basically telling me how horrible a person I am and that I should just keep my mouth shut even though what this man does makes as much of a HUGE impact on MY life as he does on yours.

Thank you. Your words are the first truly kind and open minded words I have seen from an American in this entire thread.

Yeah, apparently the guarantee of Freedom of Speech only belongs to Americans. That's one of the things that's been upsetting me in this entire thread.

Lol, you are welcome in Canada if that is what you want. I don't have a house though or I'd sell it to you. :)

I hope that right and good are actually understood instead of anger and fear. Revenge is not the way to solve problems. Neither is conquering others.

". Americans are so passionate and strong. These are things I very much admire."

Then please respect OUR right to choose our leader.

I couldn't read your post beyond the word "jerk". You lost all credibility when you referred to the President of the United States as a jerk. It is disrespectful and I don't like it.

Ahh I see. I said he's a jerk and what everyone said here to me has been so respectful and kind right?

Look, it goes both ways.

As for the post about being able to choose your own leader (whoever said that), you must be blind because you haven't read anything I've said and AGAIN twisted it as an insult against your country.

Both of you have done that.

Insulting ONE PERSON is NOT the same as insulting a nation. Where you get that, I don't know. But I can sure say that only one person in this entire thread has shown me ANY respect.

Speaking of which...the other night in the debate Kerry said he would add 40,000 troops but at the same time says we are over-extended. Er..um... where would those 40,000 troops come from, Senator?

Totalia, while I agree that you have every right to form and share opinions no matter WHERE you live, our Constitution, actually, applies to American citizens, not Canadian citizens. Although, as an American citizen who believes in our Constitution, I completely believe everyone DESERVES to have that right.

I agree everyone, everywhere, deserves that same right. . .even those Iraqis that we liberated, for instance. Our Constitution wasn't valid in Iraq (since we don't yet live in a 'global community'--even if some of our citizens hope we will), and their laws didn't guarantee free speech. Now, because of our great President and because of the United States and our multilateral coalition, they do have many of the rights that we in North America are afforded! It sure wasn't like that before we got rid of their despotic leader, ol' Saddam. Can you imagine living like they did, wanting to criticize the government because the leader was impacting your life so negatively?

Seriously, isn't that just wonderful?

totalia, not all of us Americans feel the same way as some on this thread. I personally welcome your opinion and hope that you continue to share it. It won't influence my vote but I'm interested in all viewpoints even those of non-citizens. Besides what the US does certainly affects the rest of the world.

I would also like to say welcome ahead of time. :)
