Bush sets record-longest vacation in recent history

BuckNaked- what makes you so aware of what war war conditions could potentially be in a decade or so? While I agree that a draft (especially of women) is unlikely, I believe it takes guts on your part to make such bold statements without any proof- unless, of course, I am mistaken and you can see the future.

Surely you are aware of the current argument some have made concerning there being too few troops in Iraq at this moment? Who knows how many people will be willing to fight as more events unfold in Iraq?

While none of my speculations are fact, I am not making them out to be. I do not believe yours to be fact either, although I appreciate your optimism.

The radio where they do 2 second clips and add their own comments in between. You also should take into consideration that this is a very emotional subject for this woman to TALK about.

No Lauri, a 15 minute interview on the Ed Schultz show today on the Air America station here in DC. From comments he made, she has apparently appeared on his radio show every day this week.

It is both humorous and outrageous that the political left wholeheartedly embraces this woman. I wonder how quickly the hugs and support would disappate if she went to TX to support President Bush instead of protest? Can anyone say "in less than a heartbeat?"

The political left embraces Ms. Sheehan much like an anaconda embraces its prey. Sure, both are "hugs" and provide "support" of a kind. But in the end, both are just as dangerous and deadly. And in the end, Ms. Sheehan will be cast aside, once her usefulness has ended, to struggle through the rest of her life wondering why.

You can't make this stuff up.

Um, if coherence in an unscripted forum were so important to everyone, I'm thinking you'd be a little less fervent in your support of ol' Georgie boy...lol

Want some wood ?

It's not just optimism, it's the fact that there a volunteer force is much more effective and desirable than a drafted force. Does that mean there will never be a draft? Of course not. But before the military resorts to that, they'll continue to up the incentives to get people to enlist voluntarily.

I didn't say that an unscripted is "so important". My point was (and is) that for Island_Lauri to make a judgement on what I heard based on what she's read is invalid. She might well hear the woman and think that she sounded coherent, but she certainly didn't seem so to me.

The national guard isn't a "volunteer force." They didn't sign up to be active duty...else they would have signed up AS active duty.

But that's ok...I can already fill in the "they knew what they were getting in for" answer for myself.

And who was it that cranked up the political machine first? That would be Sheehan herself. You expect the other side to sit back, do nothing and say nothing while she's milking this issue for political reasons every single day?

And keep cranking up those political machines some more.

Thanks, I'm ready to go anytime I'm called! I've been active duty Air Force for more than 18 years now. Whenever it's my time to go, I'll be more than ready.

I totally wasn't welcoming you to Canada, I was welcoming the 16 year old...

I bet green garb is your colour! You're so gun-ho you should just volunteer to ship out! Why wait for the call when you support the cause so much? Think of what a difference you could make by going now! :cheer2:

You need to take a look at a National Guard/Reserve enlistment contract. It does indeed say that they can be called up to active duty anytime.

So yes, they did know what they were getting into.

Why is it that you can't accept the fact that military members know what the possibilities are when they volunteer to enlist? Did you really not understand the possibilities when you enlisted?

OMG don't worry!! My "ready to go" applied to deployment to Iraq or anywhere else, not coming to Canada. No way, no how would I want to live there.

As for volunteering to go, that isn't how it works, at least not in my career field. People are rotated in and out, and you go when your unit or AEF goes.

Good thing - war mongers don't do well here. You started your response with a "Thanks", I feared you thought I was welcoming you!

This article basically sums up my feelings on whether Bush implied there is a connection between Saddam and 9/11. I'm guessing many others feel the same way.

It Depends What the Meaning of "Relationship" Is

ThAnswr....I'll be ready for that drink and popcorn later. :teeth: I have a business meeting to attend for now. Adios!

We may have to pack a lunch. I get the feeling this is going to be a long show. ;)

Btw, Escape, do you suffer from schadenfreude? Loosely defined, schadenfreude is a malicious satisfaction in the misfortunes of others. You see I enjoy watching people skewer themselves with their political rhetoric. The wackier and more malicious it gets, the more I enjoy watching them head for the cliff.

If you do suffer from schadenfreude, I'll save a seat at the bar in Purgatory because I'm going to be there a long, long time. I'm also saving seats for some of my other friends here because they're also enjoying the fireworks.

So now because I'm in the military, I'm a warmonger?

That's pretty tough talk from someone that lives in a country that depends on another country for their defense...

1 - They are called the "reserve" because they are supposed to be kept "in reserve". I don't think any of them bargained on getting shipped out for a year or two at a time for a war that has made us less safe from terrorism.

2 - When I enlisted in the Air Force, I knew full well what I was getting into. I was also ACTIVE duty, not a reservist. I didn't sign up for 1 weekend a month, two weeks a year, only to have it turn into full-time, active combat duty.

3 - If it were true that people signed up for the guard and reserve with the full intent to serve active duty, then why is it that guard and reserve enlistment has practically disappeared ? It couldn't have anything to do with the guard and reserve being misused, could it ? People know what they're getting into, now, so enlistment has dropped drastically.

ROTFLOL....Yeah, cause Canada is going out of their way to make enemies...lol

When have we ever come to the defense of Canada ?

BTW...Being in the military doesn't make you a warmonger. You can only do that for yourself.

Canada has a fine military, it's just too small to ever defend the country without help if it came down to it. We haven't come to their defense, but you know that we would, and so do they. That's why they maintain only (per Canadians on the DIS) a "peacekeeping" military.

No, not because you're in the military. It's because you're so pro-war.

Tough talk you say? Who burnt your white house down??? Yes, we're so depending on the States for our defense... you guys are so great at it, you killed 4 soldier in friendly fire! Go team!

Kidding aside, yes we have a small military, it's not what is used to be, but we don't depend on you.

Really? Funny, you might want to talk your government about that. If you don't need us, why is there a joint defense pact? Do you really believe that your military is large enough to defend all of Canada with no help whatsoever?

What you mean to say is, Canada doesn't have a large enough military to impose it's will upon others, right ? I mean, you don't honestly think that an invader into their country would have an easy time of it, do you ? Help from us or no ?
