One has to wonder how this is more noble than rearing four children, one of whom willingly made the ultimate sacrifice for his country and for people he didn't even know.

She probably feels like she screwed up with him since she tried to talk him into going to Canada and he refused, choosing instead to do his duty.

As a parent, I don't see where she screwed up with her son. He choose duty, honor and country over desertion. How could a parent not be proud of a child that made that choice? It doesn't make up for the loss of that child, but it is certainly a most noble memory to cherish and honor.

Nor do I, but then again I would never beg my child to forego their sworn duty.

FAMILY OF FALLEN SOLDIER PLEADS: PLEASE STOP, CINDY!
Thu Aug 11 2005 12:56:21 ET

The family of American soldier Casey Sheehan, who was killed in Iraq on April 4, 2004, has broken its silence and spoken out against his mother Cindy Sheehan's anti-war vigil against George Bush held outside the president's Crawford, Texas ranch.

The following email was received by the DRUDGE REPORT from Cherie Quarterolo, Casey's aunt and godmother: .....
Bet, you know better than to rely on anything that the slime ball drudge puts out. Drudge was forced to take the letter off his site because it was faked. Keep on sliming a grieving mother. It shows the character of the conservatives.

It was faked ? :rotfl2: You mean, the great "Dan Rather must die" brigade sank to creating a false document, just to slime the mother of a slain soldier ?

Gee...I'm shocked.

Nice try, Professor, but the report is still there. Nothing's been taken down.

Maybe the good professor could prove the assertion that the document was faked, a la what Dan ("I still believe the documents are real") Rather did.

All I've seen is an older article from the SFGate in which the family says that they oppose the war and support Kerry for president. Will have to wait and see.

Let's see, I'll go look again...yep, right there bigger than life...huge letters:

FAMILY OF FALLEN SOLDIER PLEADS: PLEASE STOP, CINDY!

What I don't understand is, how could anyone say he didn't know he might go to war. He reenlisted in Aug of 2003. His father says he wanted to make it a career. He wasn't some fresh recruit. He didn't have to reup. He knew what was going on in the world.

Drudge tooked it down for a while and then evidently received an e-mail from an unnamed source and put it back up without some names. There are some screen shots saved on DU showing the changes. It will be interesting to see what the real story is.

Many people (and believe me, I tried to tell them :) ) were misguided about this particular war, but many are waking up from their hypnotic state.

I'm sure many people who are not opposed in general to fighting for their country are beginning to oppose this war, in particular.

The President already had a meeting with her once - how many does she believe that she is entitled to?

Ahhhh but that was BEFORE Michael Moore and crew had the opportunity to help her hone her message... ;)

Good point!

Regarding the story on the Drudge website, I just listened to an interview with Sheehan, and she said that it is not a fake, that it is from her sister-in-law and the rest of her husband's family. She said that she had always clashed with them politically, and that she begged them not to vote for President Bush in 2004 because "...he killed Casey." When they voted for the President, she says she cut off all ties with her husband's side of the family.

She also gave a glimpse of what would happen if the President were to meet with her. She said that the President has never given answers to those that disagree with his views.

In other words, because his answers stay the same regardless of which side he's talking to, he doesn't really answer. Which tells me that if a meeting were to take place, it would be just as I predicted earlier - she would come out and claim that the President wouldn't answer her questions or that he lied to her.

The more I hear her, the more I think she's gone over the edge...

When we now refer to "chatter", what we mean is the volume of encrypted communications that we detect but cannot understand. We cannot understand them because they are encrypted with PGP, which can defeat NSA decryption through algorithms too complex. That's why the Clinton Admin said it was a national security issue to prevent it from getting out. The outcry was from all ovver, but much more so on the right. Civil Libertarian sentiments are much more on the right these days - the hatred of government
Further to the above, a good discussion of Clipper and PGP is at Link . Also see Link

This is very interesting. Here is the letter that Bush sent to Congress to justify the war in Iraq under the congressional resolution that is posted on the White House website. Text of a Letter from the President to the Speaker of the House of Representatives and the President Pro Tempore of the Senate
March 18, 2003

Dear Mr. Speaker: (Dear Mr. President:)

Consistent with section 3(b) of the Authorization for Use of Military Force Against Iraq Resolution of 2002 (Public Law 107-243), and based on information available to me, including that in the enclosed document, I determine that:

(1) reliance by the United States on further diplomatic and other peaceful means alone will neither (A) adequately protect the national security of the United States against the continuing threat posed by Iraq nor (B) likely lead to enforcement of all relevant United Nations Security Council resolutions regarding Iraq; and

(2) acting pursuant to the Constitution and Public Law 107-243 is consistent with the United States and other countries continuing to take the necessary actions against international terrorists and terrorist organizations, including those nations, organizations, or persons who planned, authorized, committed, or aided the terrorist attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001.

Sincerely,

GEORGE W. BUSH
The key phrase is that Bus is justifying the war in Iraq due to Iraq being one of
those nations, organizations, or persons who planned, authorized, committed, or aided the terrorist attacks that occurred on September 11, 2001
There is nothing in the official reasons for declaring war about bringing freedom to Iraqis and Iraq is classifed as one of the organizations who are linked to the attacks on Sept. 11. Again, this is from the White House website.

It is both humorous and outrageous that the political left wholeheartedly embraces this woman. I wonder how quickly the hugs and support would disappate if she went to TX to support President Bush instead of protest? Can anyone say "in less than a heartbeat?"

The political left embraces Ms. Sheehan much like an anaconda embraces its prey. Sure, both are "hugs" and provide "support" of a kind. But in the end, both are just as dangerous and deadly. And in the end, Ms. Sheehan will be cast aside, once her usefulness has ended, to struggle through the rest of her life wondering why.

Kind of like Terri Schiavo...I see.

Sorry Kyle, but the key word you didn't bold was "including". Nice try though.
