Bush Daughters

the things said about Chelsea Clinton when she was so young...well...there is not enough shame to go around to cover those who joined in on that one. Did you know there is already a webpage for people to go and make fun of Elizabeth Edwards' weight? Nice !

I guess you're privy to news I'm not, but at any rate, they haven't paraded them in front of the cameras until after Edward's children showed up. Coincidence? I think not.

Nope, not at all. June 9, 2004:

"They'll go work at the headquarters and then, if they feel confident enough, they may go out on the campaign trail a little bit," she said. Their focus will be young voters.

"Jenna said, 'Dad, I don't want to say when I'm 50 years old that I never worked on a single one of your campaigns,' " the first lady said.

::yes:: And when they do that, George Bush will get my vote! I don't look to be changing my party affiliation anytime soon.

So I take it that you aren't voting for Senator Kerry either? Or does he have children in the military of which I'm unaware?

You're right, Marcie, its hitting below the belt. I shouldn't have said they look dumb, I do sort of feel that way, but I shouldn't have said it, it just makes ME look dumb for saying it. :( The girls have obviously been through the ringer having to be in the public eye for the past 4 years and the scruitiny is only getting worse.

Faith

I saw her for the first time the other day and though she would probably take a lot of flack. It's a sad commentary

Snoopy,

We've all done it at some time or another.

How silly!

What do looks have to do with ability to be the President?

Geeze....This is going to be a nasty election when people resort to degrading the candidates children.

I totally agree and sadly it is not a new thing at all!

Sheesh!

George Clooney could get adopted by the Bush family, and Bush still wouldn't get my vote.

If that happened I would seriously consider voting for Senator Kerry.

Ummmm...Thanks for proving my point....

IF??? That doesn't sound like an official "they're in the campaign" announcement to me. Sounds like they were going to work behind the scenes and possibly make a few speeches directed at young people, none of which I've seen, btw.

That's certainly no announcement that they intended to be paraded in front of the camera for photo ops as is happening. The fact that it happens right after Edward's kids remind us all how nice it is to see a family that acts like a family is no coincidence.

To save you the typing, yes Kerry voted for the war based on the lies this President told. He has no say in the horrid way it is being run. I see no reason why his children should be obligated to sacrifice.

Still, the point remains. Wasn't there some Republican whining about how ridiculous it was to base your vote on looks?

There was no "if" about them working on the campaign, there was an "if" about them making speeches.

What do you mean "a family that acts like a family"? I'm not sure what point you're trying to make on that one. I've never heard, seen or read anything that indicated that the Bush family didn't "act like a family".

:rotfl:

Oh yes, the tired old "The President lied!" routine. You may have missed it, but the Senate released a report this week that lambasted the intelligence community for providing inaccurate information to the administration and to Congress. The President repeats what he's told, and that means he lied? Senator Kerry saw the same intelligence that the President saw. Why didn't he see through it and know that it was incorrect?

Still, the point remains. Wasn't there some Republican whining about how ridiculous it was to base your vote on looks?

Yes there were. Funny thing is though, no one this thread mentioned anything about voting for anyone based on how their children looked until you made the following statement:

Wasn't there some whining on another thread about how ridiculous it was to vote for someone based on their looks?

There were comments about how they looked, that they were well educated, independent, etc. No mention or even an implication that someone should vote for President Bush because of the way he daughters looked. So I'm curious as to why you would even bring it into the conversation.

BTW, the announcement that the Bush daughters were going to take part in the Presidential campaign was made long before Senator Edwards was even named as the VP nominee.

I remember when this was announced too and assumed it meant they would be more visable during this campaign.

Oh boy, another fun thread that gets entirely skewed...

I think the Bush daughters are beautiful, and I think it's appropriate now that they have graduated college and are a little older, to help out dear old dad on the campaign trail. Why not?

They are not only attractive but they are independent, well educated women.

Yes, thanks to their university professors (the ones that many conservatives like to attack), they are well-educated women. I heard today that Jenna had an interview to work in a school system in Harlem. Fantastic! More power to her.

And if they bring more young citizens to the polls, I say again more power to them. When this generation shows themselves as a significant voting force they will receive benefits from the actions of both parties.

I know, I wasn't at all surprised to hear about them being out on the trail - it was all over the news a few weeks ago that they would be working on the campaign.

Funny thing to me is that people look for all sorts of ulterior motives as to why the Bush daughters, adults both, might be out campaigning for their father, but no one questions the wisdom of taking a 4 year old and a 6 year old out and putting them in front of crowds for political purpose. At least the older children have a choice, as opposed to the little ones just being drug all over the country. And yes, I know this is nothing new, I just don't see how it's not only OK but actually expected of one side, but the other side must have some sinister plan in place.

Wrong again....it was in the very first post:

Yet another reason to vote for G-Dub...

There was no "if" about them working on the campaign, there was an "if" about them making speeches.

And there wasn't a word about them being thrust in front of the cameras either, was there? And, I'm sure that Vogue spread is "campaigning", right? After all Jenna and Barbara in prom dresses is important to the nation!

Oh yes, the tired old "The President lied!" routine.

It is tiresome that he lies, but he lies nonetheless.

The President repeats what he's told,

Someone needs to tell the President that the "P" stands for President, not Parrot....

What do you mean "a family that acts like a family"?

I mean up until today, I can't recall hardly a time you've ever seen them all together. A family usually spends time together and since this "family" is in the public eye, you think you'd get an rare glimpse now and then of them all together.

No mention or even an implication that someone should vote for President Bush because of the way he daughters looked. So I'm curious as to why you would even bring it into the conversation.

As I said, wrong again...refer to my first comments for an explanation.

I never said there was anything wrong with the Bush daughter's campaigning. I just question the reason....

So, now the Edwards' are abusive parents????

Sorry, the Bush girls are just better looking. Kerry always sort of reminds me of Frankenstein or something. And his daughters do resemble them. Poor kids, getting drug thru the media.

No, not Frankenstien. Take a look.

.

The OP is a 20 year old male student but I'm pretty sure he was joking about it being a reason to vote for Bush. At least that's the way I approached/read the thread. ;)

The candidates are running, not their wives or children. The wives are supporting their husbands and campaign for them since the may feel it is their duty. I think it is totally unfair to make fun of the looks of the wives or children of the candidates. As soon as I saw Elizabeth Edwards I knew she was going to face these comments and I said this to my DH. He asked me why I thought that and I said because Tipper Gore went through it and Elizabeth will get it as well. These women are not fashion models, they should be seen as supportive wives and mothers, It really bothers me that her weight is being attacked. Haven't we had enough of this, just look at the Olsen twin. As for the looks of the Bush girls, they are attractive, but they do have more to offer than their looks. Chelsea Clinton has become a beautiful and intelligent woman and I am happy for her and her parents. Leave the looks of the wives and the kids out of the campaign and listen to what they say, not what they look like. Just my two cents and now I will get off my soapbox!

That's not a bad soapbox to be on.... :D

I know "who" the op is, but thanks.

I suppose the Democrat who made the comment that Edwards was attractive and that was a good reason to vote for him was old and deadly serious.

That would explain why they got raked over the coals but it's ok for this op to do it.....

Thanks for the explanation....
