Busdriver Attacked By Guest

I can't imagine what it would have felt like to be one of theose people already packed on the bus when that happened with no place to go. I just got back from WDW and there were a couple of nights when we were on a standing room only bus...so happy that didn't happen while we were there. I understand that the man was obviously out of control so someone stepping in to try and break it up might have escalated the situation but I also can't believe no one didn't at least try to step in and help. I was also going to say it seemed like it took a while for help to get there (though I never really saw security). I realized there was a plain clothes security officer on the bus supposedly, and I'm sure he's trained to know when to step in but I am still surprised I didn't see more of a presence quicker. It's sad however you view it though. I think the bus driver deserves a raise or a paid day off.

The most insane thing I've seen at WDW.... terrible, sad, and disappointing- that man must not know that's where magic lives!!!

Given that we havent seen what happened before, its a bit difficult to make judgements about people and the situation and what led to it (e.g. has anyone actually SEEN the baby thrown; did the bus driver hit the guy before the video began etc.. etc...) - maybe i have missed something but we are all going on what someone has said on another forum and a video that starts part way though the incident. There is also some mention on one of the posts about a terrorism charge - what the heck is all that about?

If I look at the video - i dont have enough to form any conclusion about the incident - so unless there is another video with the whole thing (which appears to exist but noone on this forum has seen yet), i dont see how people canhave such strong views which are not even based on full facts.

fireman outfit on!

Just basing it on what was said by the witnesses on the tape as well as the fact that the guy was charged and the driver was not. I am sure if Disney thought the driver was wrong he'd be suspended. Sure, more time will tell, but all we are doing is discussing what we have seen.

The Terrorisn charge (if there is one) could be based on the fact that if I for example, a 5'2 110 pound white woman got on any type of public transportation and caused an incident in which everyone on that Bus, Plane, Train etc felt like they were in harm then I could be charged with terrorizing...

Ha! Middle eastern guy on a bus full of our military. That would have ended well for him.

Hahaaa!! That's what I was thinking but did not want to start up more tension in this thread!

OMG!! That's awful :scared1:
I feel so sorry for his wife and baby, imagine the way he acts in their home :sad2:

From another board :

Our buses are Federal DOT Regulated just like Airplanes and Trains. It carries the same charge as if you attacked a flight crew on an airplane in flight!!!

Whauuuut? Had the bus driver hit him before the video started, I'm quite sure he would have clocked him again when he was being choked.

Here's the facts I'll rely on.... all those witnesses. All those witnesses gave their account of what happened to Security (I would assume). All all those witnesses wouldn't lie simply so they could get on over to EPCOT quicker.

The baby throwing strangler was charged - not the bus driver.

There is no reason to put your hands around the neck of another person as the guest did in the video. As for the terrorism charge it is applicable in this situation from a legal standpoint. The assault happened on a bus which is covered by Federal DOT regulations same as planes and trains and city busses. I found this terrorism statute from a legal library online:

(1) "A person is guilty of a crime if he threatens to commit any crime of violence with the purpose to terrorize another or in reckless disregard of the risk of causing such terror."
(2) "A person commits a crime if he threatens to commit a crime of violence with the purpose to cause evacuation of a building, place of assembly or facility of public transportation or otherwise to cause serious public inconvenience or in reckless disregard of the risk of causing such evacuation or inconvenience.
The prosecution must prove the following elements beyond a reasonable doubt:
1. The defendant made a threat, or threatened to commit a crime of violence against (the victim's name).

Quite sure based on what? your expertise on human behaviour or just your presupposed views of people?

If my husband threw our kid at someone, that only one he should be afraid of would be me. And then have his hands around the driver's neck? WTH?!

:rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2::rotfl2:
I almost missed the beautiful simplicity of this post until I read it again! You are right....if my husband threw our baby, getting arrested would be the least of his worries!!!! In fact, he might prefer being toted off in handcuffs as it would be much safer than hanging around!!!!

I don't know about that. Epcot is pretty awesome! :lmao:

Good point. And I checked - it was NOT an EMH night, so they had very little time left to play at EPCOT.

;)

You're probably right. The bus was filled with people all conspiring together to get this man banned from the parks. They probably taunted him in line, too.

Which is why he blew up, and choked the bus driver who, I'm quite sure, hit him first, and probably tried to trip him, and give him a noogie, as well.

:rolleyes1

That is so terrible! I loved the people narrating the video though. "He, like, threw that baby!" and "That is NOT a happy bus!" and "Is there another bus to Epcot?"

Definitely! I'll bet they were all mad at him because he was a part of a large tour group that took all the TSM FPs for the day, he was using a refillable mug from 2006 and he line jumped all day; so that was their way at getting back at him. ;)

Did anyone ever find out the reason for this guest to attack the bus driver? From watching the video it looked liked the bus driver told him he had to wait in the back of the bus or he had no choice but to stand since there were no more seats, at least that's what I thought after seeing it.

Think they'll come on the DIS with a Trip Report???? popcorn::

Thank you for explaining this much more kindly than I would have. It's funny (and by funny, I really mean SO IRRITATING) how people get so "offended" because a middle eastern guy was charged with terrorism. He was charged because of what he did, not where he's from.
