Busdriver Attacked By Guest

b) he just held that bus up
That's something I never understood. Do these people think that starting a fight with the bus driver is going to get them to their destination any faster? What would've been a short wait for another bus, turned into who knows how long a wait for everyone on that bus.

For a fleeting moment, yes, he had his hands around his neck. But, you also have to assess the entire situation and do a risk assessment:

1. the bus driver was physically capable of holding his own
2. the area was crowded, thus if the situation escalated, the driver knew that help was feet away

All I'm saying is that if Mr. Norris came in and got involved, the situation would have gotten uglier. That is NOT what Disney or its security wants to happen unless the bus driver is in immediate, grave danger. The 2 seconds where the hands are on his throat are just that - 2 seconds. That driver professionally and adroitly removed the guys' hands without escalating the situation. He responded perfectly from a crisis management perspective (defuse, do not escalate).

sounds like you've either gone thru or teach personal defense / personal protection.......

I wonder why undercover security didn't step in, since there was apparently personnel there at the time.

Again - I just think many of us are *surprised* no one stepped in. That's all. Not if it's right or wrong - just a little surprised.

You may be right - not stepping in is probably a better idea, -however- we are *surprised* no one did. Most heat of the moment incidents, don't have people stepping back, with a notepad, and doing a risk assessment on whether or not today will be the day to be Mr. Norris.

Fair enough. I'm just coming at this from Disney's perspective (and in my experience). Security personnel, bus drivers, etc. are trained to scream "HELP" only when they think they need it. They know that third party intervenors invariably escalate the situation. All I wanted to point out was that the bus drivers do not want us to intervene unless (a) they ask for it; or (b) it's clear to a reasonable person the bus driver is in serious danger (and no one will ever convince me that the 2 second of "throat-holding" (deftly defused by the meat-hooks on that driver's arms :D ) should have prompted someone to intervene.

That bus driver had it all under control, and he should be commended.

As far as the comment about what children were "seeing," if someone intervened, the situation would have gotten much worse. The clear "teaching moment" for me and our DS5 would have been praising that bus driver for keeping everyone calm and safe.

wow, insnae. And did you hear the guy 'we have a baby, we're a priority.' Has the guy not noticed that there are kids/babies everywhere in disney, that doesnt make you a priority. love the entitlement mentality of people today. Granted we didnt get to see what happened before the video starts, but I cant come up with any rationale for attacking the driver. Self defense I can see, but I dont think the bus driver started that and the reports that he threw he baby! :scared1: holy #### someone call CPS.

Because the security personnel is typically trained to step in only when needed. I assure you that person was within several feet of the bus driver with an eye on the situation (and perhaps a finger on whatever might have been in his pocket...pepper spray, most likely).

See now, there you go, trying to apply common sense. LOL! Besides, meat heads like this don't think about anything but what THEY want and getting it. NOW. He tossed his kid and assaulted a bus driver. I'm sure he REALLY cares about the possible inconvenience to more than a bus load of people. What a waste of perfectly good oxygen.....

1) How rude and unfortunate.
2) The guest was really in bad shape.
3) my guess is that he was tired of waiting and grew angry and impatient.
4) Some people's tempers just take over.
5) I applaud the bus driver for not belting the guy.
6) Instead of just pushing him back.

I couldn't understand what he was saying with the accent but if I were the busdriver my foot would have been directly up his behind. Nice behavior around children too.:sad2:

And that is the common theme of every single post/thread/topic. Disney is great. It is the people that have ruined it. Guys like this who think it is ok to yell and scream. That is why I would have lost my cool. I can't get my kids off the bus that quick and I can't shield them. I just can't walk around him. It is incidents like this that I wish Disney had a back room like Vegas. Let Mickey soften him up before the authorities are called.

For those who are saying their husbands would have jumped in and "done something," you probably should understand that (a) that's a bad idea; (b) the bus driver does not want you doing that as it would escalate the situation; and (c) the plain clothes security officer apparently didn't see a need to physically intervene. ("Also in the video one of the gentleman on the bus,{I wont identify him} was one of our plain clothes security officers and was in the load zone at the time and witnessed the attack.")

I know it's easy for us guys to play Chuck Norris behind the computer, but the professionals involved in this mess really do not want intervention unless they're in grave danger (e.g. being held down and choked).

[flamesuit on] ;)

I agree in principal, but people do these things knowing others are wary of getting involved, but sometimes you cant just sit idly by , and sadly I think this is one of those times at the least he should have been aided of the bus.

I cannot believe what I just watched, amazing. What is wrong with people!!

Understood.

Psychology also comes into play here. The gentleman was fixated on the bus driver, and did not feel threatened (to a large extent). Thus, he was engaged in psychological "flight" mode (even though he stood on the bus). An intervenor runs the risk of threatening that relatively "safe" place of mind, and tripping the switch to "fight" (because he now has two people on his case, perhaps threatening him).

It's counterintuitive, I know, but situations like this are best handled by slow de-escalation/deflation rather than quick intervention. Again, the bus driver did it by the book and should be commended for doing so.

I agree with you. I've had issues with the resorts but it all boiled down to the ignorant and entitled guests (ie. like the ones who come back saying the cast members didn't kiss their a-- at every corner or give them free stuff).

It just sucks. You could have had a wonderful day and sadly this will be what most kids will remember. Some crazy guy on a bus.

Given that we havent seen what happened before, its a bit difficult to make judgements about people and the situation and what led to it (e.g. has anyone actually SEEN the baby thrown; did the bus driver hit the guy before the video began etc.. etc...) - maybe i have missed something but we are all going on what someone has said on another forum and a video that starts part way though the incident. There is also some mention on one of the posts about a terrorism charge - what the heck is all that about?

If I look at the video - i dont have enough to form any conclusion about the incident - so unless there is another video with the whole thing (which appears to exist but noone on this forum has seen yet), i dont see how people canhave such strong views which are not even based on full facts.

fireman outfit on!
